Windmills & Legos: Students in Mr. Mullen s 2 nd grade classroom recently incorporated Lego into their learning. The students were given the challenge of building a Lego windmill that had to contain two parts, a shaft and some propellers that moved with the wind. The students were required to draw a design first, and then used writing to explain how their design was constructed. At the end of the class period, each group displayed their windmill, did some tests on which moved the easiest with the wind provided, and made verbal observations on why certain windmills took more or less wind to move. The kids even had to determine what made some windmills spin faster or slower than others. Legos building, writing, critical thinking skills and fun all rolled into one lesson! We love our Lego kits!
