From the Principal s Desk, Eric Payne Recently, we completed the first quarter of the school year, held three nights of parent/teacher conferences, sent home grade cards, and held classroom Halloween celebrations. Needless to say, it has been a busy month! With the first quarter in the rearview window, it is a good time to pass along a few reminders. UThank you all for a much improved dismissal time. I appreciate that our parents are following our pick-up procedures on a more consistent basis. As a reminder, please continue to use the car pick-up, and not try to pick up students in the street or pull up without following procedure. Additionally, there is no student pick-up permitted in the ally due to safety and school buses needing to get through. Students will not be released to you if you park in the ally. UAs the weather turns colder, please be sure to send students to school dressed appropriately. We try to take students outside for recess as much as possible, even if it is cold. It is encouraged to dress in layers, as some rooms in the school can be warmer or cooler than others. UWe acknowledge that a student s birthday is a special day, and they very much enjoy celebrating with their teachers and classes. However, please keep in mind our recent change in the handbook regarding birthday treats. Birthday treats that will be permitted include a healthy snack or prepackaged cookies without frosting that include an ingredient list for allergy purposes. Parents and students may also choose to donate a book to the Northview library to celebrate birthdays. The librarian will have a selection of books to choose from for $5. There will be a nameplate inside the cover of the book with the student's name to recognize their birthday donation. Birthday treats with any frosting will not be permitted or served as a birthday treat. Ice cream will not be served or permitted. Also, I would like to remind our families that there will be no school Monday, November 23, through Friday, November 27, for Thanksgiving vacation. Online Payment System You have the option to pay your child's fees and lunch money online using the EZ Pay. A link is available on the district's website. A fixed convenience fee of $2 will be passed on to the parents for each transaction. Student fees and lunch monies can still be paid by check or cash at school. Canadian Coin Reminder We cannot accept Canadian coins (or any foreign currency). Please make sure your currency and coins are United States monies when sending in money with your child. School Fees Fee notices will be coming home with your child if you have not paid school fees and/or library fines. You can now pay school fees online. Go to and click on EZ Pay There is a one time requirement to set up an account. Select your student's school, type of fees, and type in the amount you want to pay and checkout! You will still be able to pay for your school fees through the office if you prefer. Fees for Kindergarten, Grades 1-3 are $43.00 per year. Payments can be made in full or by semester (1/2 of the fee). Your prompt payment of the school fees would be greatly appreciated. These monies go directly back to the students in the form of materials and supplies. Grade cards will be held if the school fees are not paid. All unpaid fees are rolled over each year. If these fees are not paid by the time your child gets ready to graduate from high school, their diploma will be withheld. Salvation Army Holiday Canned Food Drive Northview is participating in the Salvation Army Holiday Canned Food Drive. Please check the expiration date on the items you are sending in. We cannot accept food items that are expired. Last day to bring in food items is Tuesday, December 1, These food items are used to help needy families and individuals at Christmas and throughout the winter months. The class that collects the most food will have a pizza party! Findlay North PTO Needs You! The next PTO meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, December 15, at 6:00 pm at Northview. PTO minutes are posted on Northview's web page under PTO. The PTO includes Bigelow Hill, Jacobs, and Northview parents and staff. Please come and learn more about this important organization that supports programs for your children.! Trojan Tokens Throughout each month, students have the opportunity to earn Trojan Tokens by meeting Northview's building wide expectations. Students who are observed demonstrating respect towards adults, students, and property, excellence in the classroom, adherence to classroom, recess, cafeteria, or bus rules could receive a Trojan Token. At the end of each month, we draw winners for a pizza lunch with Mr. Payne. The goal is to recognize and focus on the students' positive behavior and celebrate it! Right-to-Read Week Northview is THANKFUL for books! This year our Right-To-Read week theme is Thankful for Books and will be celebrated the week before Thanksgiving, November 12-20th. Our week will kick-off with a visit from an author/illustrator, Henry Cole, who has both written and illustrated many books that kids find amusing. In addition to our kick-off, we will be celebrating reading and books with many fun activities. Activities such as buddy reading with other classrooms, presentations from the Park District, a day of learning stations connected to fall, and even a book swap. Be on the look out for more information coming home soon in teachers' newsletters, and help your child be thankful for books by reading with them nightly!

3 The students in kindergarten have been very busy during October. The month started off with a unit on the exciting things that happen in the fall. We created apples with torn paper pieces, stamped fall leaves, learned about animal changes and tasted awesome applesauce. The culmination to our fire safety unit was a trip to the fire station. The trip allowed us to review fire safety plans, sit with friends in the fire truck, watch the firemen prepare for a fire and experience the life of a fire fighter. The students are looking forward to a trip to Conine s Pumpkin Patch. At the patch the students will explore the apple orchard, watch as they crush apples to make cider, pet many animals, and enjoy a hayride through the pumpkin fields. The highlight of the trip will be choosing a pumpkin to bring to our classroom and decorate! Enjoy our fall weather----winter is right around the corner!

4 Federal Funds for Special Education October 2015 Findlay City Schools receives federal funds for handicapped students as provided by the 1997 Amendments to the Individual with Disabilities Education Act. These funds are provided as an incentive to expand and improve services for the handicapped, ages 3 through 21. In the past, our district has allocated funds for the following: Paraprofessionals to assist in classrooms Coordinator of Secondary Special Education Programs School Psychologist Medical evaluations required for students to be placed or maintained in a special education program A consultant for visually-handicapped students A part-time school psychologist for the parochial school A part-time school pathologist for the parochial school Teacher(s) of students with multiple disabilities Support for an after-school program for behaviorally challenged, disabled students. To ask questions or offer input concerning the use of federal funds, contact the Student Services Department at (419) The board affirms that, consistent with and to the extent required by applicable law, no person shall, on the basis of sex, race, color, national origin, or handicap, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any educational program or activity conducted under its auspices. This shall extend to employees therein and to admission thereto. Inquiries concerning the application of this policy may be referred to the Superintendent or designated coordinator.
