INFORMATION SYSTEMS SERVICE NETWORKS AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS SECTOR User Guide: Connecting to the University of Cyprus wireless network ucywifi for Windows 7 operating systems ΥΠΣ ΕΔ/57 Last review date: 14/11/2012 General information on the ucywifi wireless network can be found at the end of this guide, Section General Information Step 1: Click on the network connections icon located to the right side your computer s taskbar and then click on the Open Network and Sharing Center option:
Step 2: Select Manage wireless connections from the left side of the new window that will appear: Step 3: If the ucywifi network is shown in the available networks, proceed to Step 4, otherwise proceed to Step 5: 2
Step 4: Click on the ucywifi network and then click on the Remove button. A warning message will appear requesting you to confirm the deletion. Click Yes to confirm it: Step 5: Click on the Add button to create the profile for the ucywifi network: 3
Step 6: Click on the Manually create a network profile option from the new window that will appear: Step 7: On the new window that will appear, complete the fields as shown below and then click on the Next button: Network name: ucywifi Security type: WPA2-Enterprise Encryption type: AES 4
Step 8: Click on the Change connection settings option to configure the network settings: Step 9: On the following window that will appear go to the second tab, Security, and make sure that all fields are completed as shown in the image below. In the Choose a network authentication method field select Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP) and then click on the Settings button: 5
Step 10: From the Protected EAP window that will appear, un-check the option Validate server certificate. Next, for the Select Authentication Method field, choose Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2) and then click on the Configure button: Step 11: A small window resembling the image below will appear. Un-check the option Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any) and click OK: 6
Step 12: Click ΟΚ to close the EAP MSCHAPv2 Properties window, and then click ΟΚ again to close the Protected EAP Properties window. The Wireless Network Properties window should remain open (as shown in the following screen shot). Click on the Advanced settings button: Step 13: Check the Specify authentication mode option. From the available options in the drop down list, select User authentication and then click the Save Credentials button: 7
Step 14: A new window will appear in which you will be prompted to enter your username (with the suffix @ucy.ac.cy) and password (username/password are those you use for accessing your University email account). IMPORTANT: If your email address is of the following format: georghiou.george@ucy.ac.cy, and you have been given an alias email such as ggeorge@ucy.ac.cy for example, then you must use ggeorge@ucy.ac.cy as the username for accessing the service. Once you fill in the required information, click OK (you will have to click OK twice in order to close the window which is open in the background) Step 15: On the following window, click Close: 8
Step 16: The connection will begin automatically and you can view information on which network you are connected by clicking on the Networks icon, located in your taskbar. In case the connection fails to start automatically, click on the Networks icon from your taskbar, select ucywifi from the list of available networks and click the Connect button: 9
General Information The ucywifi wireless network access service allows for the establishment of a wireless connection and access to the Internet and is available to all the members of the university community who have been assigned a University of Cyprus unique username (academic and administrative staff, students) The ucywifi wireless network uses the security protocol WPA2 Enterprise / AES, which enables a secure connection and communication. Supported devices on which the service has been tested successfully and the respective user guides can be found at the following page http://www.ucy.ac.cy/goto/iss/en- US/ucywifi.aspx The advanced settings configuration procedure described in the above user guide needs be performed only the first time a connection to the ucywifi is attempted. 10
