Important: Aways check the Avaya Support Website for Product Correction Notices at http://support.avaya.com and seect Product Correction Notices (A Avaya products) in the MOST POPULAR PRODUCTS IN SUPPORT section. Assumptions The foowing items are assumed for the successfu competion of this repacement procedure. If any of these assumptions do not appy to your scenario, some steps in the on-site repacement procedures may need to be modified: The existing S8300 hardware may or may not be functiona. The S8300 may be configured as a primary controer or as an LSP. The foowing information is avaiabe: - customer FTP server IP address, ogin, and password - contents of a Pre-Instaation Worksheet The technician is famiiar with the connection and access methods to the S8300, incuding setting up a direct connection to the S8300 Services port and using the Maintenance Web interface. See Instaation and Upgrades for the Avaya G700 Media Gateway and Avaya S8300 Server, 555-234-100, for detaied information about setting up connections to the G700 and S8300 and the associated aptop configurations. 700432008 555-245-753 Issue 5.0 January 2008 1

Job Aid: Repacing the S8300 Media Server or its hard drive Before you go to the site There are severa possibe hardware repacement scenarios for S8300. You shoud determine which of the scenarios appies and ensure that you have Site-specific information Unity CD and USB reader Service packs Firmware fies Identify the repacement scenario The most common repacement scenario in this document is to repace the S8300 Server with the same version. However, some earier hardware versions are no onger avaiabe, requiring these considerations: Repacing an S8300A with an S8300B on page 2 Repacing an S8300B with an S8300C on page 3 Identify the repacement scenario on page 3 Repacing an S8300A with an S8300B! Important: Important: Do not use this Job Aid if you need to repace an S8300 version A with version B. Instead, refer to Instaation and Upgrades for the Avaya G700 Media Gateway and Avaya S8300 Server, 555-234-100. An S8300 version A wi be repaced with an S8300 version B if: The system is a pre-2.1 reease of Communication Manager running on an S8300A and the customer wishes to upgrade to reease 2.1 or ater. The S8300A is fauty and ony S8300B repacement units are avaiabe. When a pre-2.1 reease of Communication Manager is running on an S8300A, and you want to upgrade to a 2.1 or ater reease, you must repace the S8300A with an S8300B. The B version supports any Communication Manager reease but the A version supports ony pre-2.1 reeases. The repacement S8300B is normay shipped without Communication Manager software. In this case, the S8300 hard drive must be remastered, the Communication Manager software instaed, and the server must be configured. These procedures are covered in Instaation and Upgrades for the Avaya G700 Media Gateway and Avaya S8300 Server, 555-234-100. 2 Job Aid: Repacing the S8300 Media Server or its Hard Drive

Before you go to the site Repacing an S8300B with an S8300C! Important: Important: Do not use this Job Aid if you need to repace an S8300 version B with version C. Instead, refer to Instaation and Upgrades for the Avaya G700 Media Gateway and Avaya S8300 Server, 555-234-100. An S8300 version B wi be repaced with an S8300 version C if: The system is a pre-4.0 reease of Communication Manager running on an S8300B and the customer wishes to upgrade to reease 4.0 or ater. When a pre-4.0 reease of Communication Manager is running on an S8300B, and you want to upgrade to a 4.0 or ater reease, you must repace the S8300B with an S8300C. The S8300C version supports ony Communication Manager 4.0 and ater reeases. The repacement S8300C is normay shipped without Communication Manager software. In this case, the S8300C must be remastered, the Communication Manager software instaed, and the server must be configured. These procedures are covered in Instaation and Upgrades for the Avaya G700 Media Gateway and Avaya S8300 Server, 555-234-100. In addition the S8300C does not support the CWY1 board that might be present with the S8300A/B. Refer to Instaation and Upgrades for the Avaya G700 Media Gateway and Avaya S8300 Server, 555-234-100 for proper conversion and announcement transfer procedures. Identify the repacement scenario Eight scenarios for repacing the S8300 hardware are summarized in Tabe 1: Repacement scenarios on page 4. Each scenario requires a sighty different pre-instaation preparation and a sighty different instaation procedure. The different scenarios depend on whether the origina (currenty instaed) hardware is functiona, and whether the software reeases instaed on the origina and new hardware are the same, different, or unknown. 555-245-753 Issue 5.0 January 2008 3

Job Aid: Repacing the S8300 Media Server or its hard drive Description of repacement scenarios When the S8300 hardware is repaced, you need to reconfigure the S8300 Server. The easiest way to do this is to back up the configuration data from the origina hardware and do a fu restore to the new hardware. Scenario 8 is the common repacement scenario in which the od and new hardware and software versions are the same. However, for scenarios 1, 3, and 6, the origina and new hardware are running different software reeases. In these scenarios, you wi need to do a software upgrade (on the origina hardware for 1 and on the new hardware for 3 and 6) to make the software reeases the same. In scenario 6, since the hardware is not functiona, you cannot do a backup so you must restore the atest avaiabe backup. To do these upgrades, you must have a CD containing the appropriate server software oad. The software oad is typicay be the atest GA bug-fix oad, but it coud be an earier oad depending on what is required to make the software reeases the same on the origina and new hardware. For scenarios 2 and 5, the origina and new hardware are running the same software reease so no upgrades are required. For scenario 5, you must restore the atest avaiabe backup. For scenario 4, you cannot use the atest avaiabe backup to restore the configuration data. (You cannot upgrade the origina hardware or backup the configuration data because the hardware is not functiona. You cannot do a fu restore of the atest avaiabe backup because the origina and new hardware have different software reeases). In this scenario, you must do a fu configuration using the Instaation Wizard or the Maintenance Web Interface and restore just the transations and AUDIX fies from the atest avaiabe backup. For scenario 7, you (and the customer) do not know the software reease on the origina hardware, and you are unabe to check the software reease because the hardware is not functiona. In this case, you must foow the repacement procedure in scenario 4, with the additiona step of upgrading the new hardware to the atest GA bug-fix oad, if that oad is not aready instaed on the new hardware. This upgrade step ensures that the system is not downgraded in case the origina hardware had the atest GA bug-fix oad instaed. Before going to the customer site Perform the foowing steps before going to the customer site: 1. Downoad the current icense fie and authentication (password) fie from the RFA website. The icense fie must be associated with the seria number of the G700 in which the defective hardware resides. Save the icense and authentication fies on the aptop that you use at the customer site. 6 Job Aid: Repacing the S8300 Media Server or its Hard Drive

Before you go to the site 2. For scenarios 4 and 7 if the origina hardware is not functiona, and the origina hardware has an earier (or unknown) software reease than the reease instaed on the new hardware, then you need to do a fu configuration (rather than a fu restore). Create a pre-instaation server worksheet when configuring the S8300 after hardware repacement. There is an eectronic version and a printabe version of the pre-instaation worksheet: The eectronic version is used with the Instaation Wizard to directy oad the configuration data onto the S8300. The printabe version is used to record the configuration data, which is then manuay entered into the screens of the Instaation Wizard or the Maintenance Web Interface. The eectronic version, used with the Instaation Wizard, is recommended because it simpifies the data-entry task and is more accurate. You can obtain the pre-instaation worksheet from http://support.avaya.com/. You do not need to create a pre-instaation worksheet for the other scenarios (1, 2, 3, 5, and 6). 3. For scenario 7 if the software reease on the origina hardware is unknown, check to see if the software reease on the new hardware is the atest GA bug-fix oad. If not, obtain a CD with the atest GA bug-fix oad. 4. Determine backup ocation, user name, ftp host name, directory, and password to do an FTP backup when on site. Keep this information handy for the restore. 5. For scenarios 1, 3, and 6 if an upgrade is needed, obtain a CD with the appropriate reease of the server software to be used for upgrading the origina or new hardware. (The appropriate reease is whatever makes the reeases on the origina and new hardware the same after the upgrade). 6. For scenarios 1, 2, and 3, obtain information about the customer s FTP backup server: IP address, user name, password, ftp host name, and directory. 7. Determine whether software service packs wi be needed and, if so, downoad the appropriate software service pack to your aptop. 8. If the new hardware has a reease of the server software that is ater than the reease instaed on the origina hardware, you may need to upgrade the G700 firmware. If you need to upgrade the G700 firmware, go to the Avaya Support Web site (http:// support.avaya.com/downoads) then choose G700 Media Gateway. Instructions for upgrading the G700 firmware are in Job Aid: Firmware Downoad Procedure for the G700 Media Gateway, 555-245-758. 555-245-753 Issue 5.0 January 2008 7

Job Aid: Repacing the S8300 Media Server or its hard drive At the customer site Use the foowing procedure to repace the S8300 hard drive or the S8300 Server circuit pack (incuding its hard drive). Procedure to repace the S8300 hardware Some of the ink names on the Maintenance Web Interface referenced in this procedure might vary depending on the version of Communication Manager you are using. 1. If the S8300 hardware is sti functiona or can be made functiona, connect your aptop to the Services port on the S8300 and access the Maintenance Web Interface. If you do not know whether the S8300 hardware is functiona, perform the foowing procedure to determine if it is functiona: a. Connect your aptop (with a crossover cabe) to the Services port on the S8300, open the IE browser, and connect to http://192.11.13.6. b. If you do not get the Wecome screen, skip to Step e. c. If the previous steps indicate that the S8300 hardware may not be functiona, unseat and reseat the S8300 server and repeat Steps a - d above. If you do not get the Wecome screen in Step b or if the View Partition Status tabe is not dispayed in Step d, then the S8300 hardware is not functiona. If the S8300 hardware is not functiona, skip Step 2 and Step 3 and continue with Step 4. 2. Check to see if the new hardware has a higher software reease than the current system. If so, upgrade the server software on the origina hardware to the same reease as is on the new hardware. This appies to dot reeases as we as major reeases. 8 Job Aid: Repacing the S8300 Media Server or its Hard Drive
