4 Chapter 1 Instaing the Eaton Inteigent Power Protector This document provides Eaton Inteigent Power Protector (IPP) instaation prerequisites and quick start instaation procedures. The procedures incude ony those steps that are necessary for basic setup and operation. Refer to the Eaton Inteigent Power Protector (IPP) User s Guide for detaied configuration and operation instructions. Procedures for uninstaing the product are aso incuded. NOTE Upgrade instructions are not incuded in this document. See the Nodes Upgrade section in the Eaton Inteigent Power Manager (IPM) User s Guide for information about remotey upgrading the Eaton IPP. Product Introduction The Eaton IPP is an appication that manages gracefu device shutdown. Eaton IPP features incude: Acquisition through Eaton UPSs USB or RS232 communication ports (Pusar & Powerware series) Acquisition through Web/SNMP network management cards Can be supervised by the Eaton Inteigent Power Manager (IPM). Can be managed and upgraded by Eaton IPM NOTE Refer to the Eaton Inteigent Power Protector (IPP) User s Guide for a comprehensive ist of the supported cards. Figure 1 shows the Eaton IPP Main Page. 5 Instaing the Eaton Inteigent Power Protector Instaation Prerequisites This section provides instaation prerequisites for the foowing: Systems hosting the Eaton IPP Systems that dispay the Web-based graphica user interface (GUI) NOTE The Eaton IPP instas a the necessary drivers for USB communication. If the Windows operating system attempts to insta a driver from Windows Update, you can cance this process. On the System Hosting Eaton IPP The Eaton IPP can be instaed on Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows Vista 7, Microsoft Windows 7 and 8, and on Microsoft Windows Server 2003, 2008, and 2012 (incuding R2 revision). To avoid network or seria port access conficts, do not insta the Eaton IPP on a machine that aso hosts: - Eaton Inteigent Power Manager (IPM) - Eaton Enterprise Power Manager - Network Management Proxy - Persona Soution Pac - LanSafe and LanSafe Web View - Netwatch! IMPORTANT For Standby Configuration (Windows) In the properties settings of the Configuration Pane > Power Option, you must deseect (uncheck) the Standby configuration of your operating system in order to be compiant with the Eaton IPP. With the standby configuration seected (checked), your system is not protected. If you want to save energy, enabe the hibernate feature. On the System that Dispays the Web-based GUI The Eaton IPP graphica interface can be accessed remotey using a simpe Web browser. Access to this interface can be secured through Secure Socket Layer (SSL) connection and is aso secured through ogin and password. The Eaton IPP graphica interface has been tested with: Googe Chrome Mozia Firefox Microsoft Internet Exporer (IE) version 7 and ater NOTE For optima performance, Googe Chrome or Firefox is recommended. 6 Instaing the Eaton Inteigent Power Protector Windows Quick Start Instructions This section incudes quick start instaation and configuration instructions. Graphica Instaation To insta the Eaton IPP: 1. On a computer with a Windows operating system, run the Eaton Inteigent Power Protector package under an administrator account. The Eaton Inteigent Power Protector Instaer Wecome screen dispays. 2. Observe the prompt and verify that the communication device is connected. Cick Next (see Figure 2). The Login screen dispays. 7 Instaing the Eaton Inteigent Power Protector 3. Read the appication description. Type the ogin and password and cick Login (see Figure 3). The defaut entry for ogin and password is admin. Figure 3. Login Screen NOTE If the browser does not open as panned, it shoud be started manuay and pointed to Configuration When started, the appication automaticay performs a discovery using the Quick Scan option: Using the Quick Scan operation, you wi discover Seria ine connected UPSs (RS-232 or USB). The discovered UPS (connected through RS-232 or USB ports) is automaticay assigned as the Power source (the Status icon is Green ). Networked UPSs through broadcast. Quick Scan is compatibe with Web/SNMP Cards, incuding Network-MS (exampe, / ) and Modbus-MS (exampe, 66103), Connect UPS XSot, PXGX 2000, and PXGX-UPS Card. NOTE The discovered UPS connected through the Network are not automaticay assigned as the Power source. You must seect the node and cick Set as Power Source. The icon becomes Green. Dispay the discovered nodes using Settings > Auto Discovery (see Figure 4). For the other nodes, perform the discovery based on IP address ranges using the Range Scan option. Using Range Scan discovers the nodes that are outside of the network segment and nodes that are not compatibe with the Quick Scan feature. Quick Start - Auto Discovery Page Operation Use the Views > Power Source menu item (optiona) to supervise the current state of the compatibe power devices and appications. Seect a ine in the ist and the panes are updated with seected device information (see Figure 5). The Events > Event List view aows you to view the device events. Figure 5. Power Source Main Page Instaation Resut! IMPORTANT If you insta a new Eaton IPP reease without uninstaing the od one, you wi keep your database and your product settings. At the end of the instaation, the foowing shortcuts are created in the group Start > Programs > Eaton > Inteigent Power Protector - Open Eaton Inteigent Power Protector: Starts the main Eaton IPP graphica interface - Start Eaton Inteigent Power Protector: Starts the service Eaton Inteigent Power Protector (IPP) Quick Start Instaation Manua P Rev 1 5

9 Instaing the Eaton Inteigent Power Protector - Stop Eaton Inteigent Power Protector: Stops the service - Uninsta Eaton Inteigent Power Protector: Uninstas the program A service caed Eaton Inteigent Power Protector is aso created for the Database Acquisition Engine. - This program continuousy pos the status of Eaton devices and Appications connected on the network. - This service automaticay starts on machine boot-up. - This service provides the Web Interface. A system tray icon dispays the aarms on the oca computer. Right-cick this icon to dispay the same shortcuts as in the Windows Start menu. Uninstaing the Windows Eaton IPP (Standard Method) The foowing methods for uninstaing the Eaton IPP are avaiabe: Access the contro pane seection for your operating system to uninsta programs and remove the Eaton Inteigent Power Protector Vx.xx package per your system instructions. You can aso uninsta from the shortcuts to remove the product and custom fies (if you confirm the action): Start > Programs > Eaton > Inteigent Power Protector > Uninsta Inteigent Power Protector Instaing/Uninstaing the Eaton IPP (Command Line) You can insta or uninsta the Eaton IPP product from a command ine in order to depoy the software in a group, with or without using the graphica interface. You can aso configure protection settings from the command ine. Detai of avaiabe command options can be obtained using the foowing command: <packagename> -hep <packagename> [COMMAND] [OPTION]... The avaiabe commands are: -insta Launches the instaation/upgrade process (defaut). -uninsta Launches the process to uninsta the appication. The avaiabe options are: -debug Dispays debugging information on the consoe. -sient Insta the appication sienty. Linux Instaation Eaton IPP for Linux is avaiabe both in native package form (.deb or.rpm) and as a generic instaer for Command Line Interface (CLI). Native Instaation on a Red Hat, Suse, Mandriva, or Derivative System Graphica Instaation To insta graphicay: 1. Doube-cick the Eaton Inteigent Power Protector.rpm package. 2. The system prompts for the root password. Enter the root password. The system aunches a graphica front end, such as Red Hat's package Instaer (see Figure 6). Figure 6. When the instaation is competed, open a Web browser with the foowing URL: (where <@IP> is the IP address of the machine hosting the Eaton IPP) Native Instaation on a Debian or Derivative System! IMPORTANT On Debian (Lenny), there is no defaut graphica instaer present. You shoud either use the command ine instaation that foows, or insta the package gdeb and gdebi and restart your graphica session to be abe to compete this procedure. This is a known Debian bug, which is registered in the Debian Bug Tracking System: Graphica Instaation To insta graphicay: 1. Doube-cick the Eaton Inteigent Power Protector.deb package. 2. The system prompts for the root password and then aunches a graphica front end, such as Gdebi (see Figure 7): Figure 7. Gdebi Front End 3. Cick Insta Package. 4. After instaation is competed, open the menu Appication > Eaton> Eaton Inteigent Power Protector> Open (in Gnome ), then foow the instructions in Configuration on page 18. At the command ine prompt, type the command (as root): $ dpkg -i ipp-inux_x.y.z.deb For exampe: $ dpkg -i ipp-inux_ _i386.deb (Reading database fies and directories currenty instaed.) Preparing to repace ipp-inux (using.../ ipp-inux_ _i386.deb)... Unpacking repacement ipp-inux... Setting up ipp-inux ( ) When the instaation is competed, open a Web browser with the foowing URL: (where <@IP> is the IP address of the machine hosting the Eaton IPP) Generic Instaation on Linux If your system does not derive from Red Hat (.rpm) or Debian (.deb), you can insta Eaton IPP using the generic package. (This method is ony supported from the command ine.) To insta from a command ine in interactive mode: 1. Use the foowing command from where the generic instaer is ocated (as root): $ ipp-inux-0x_0x_000x-i386 -insta 2. For sient instaation, add the sient parameter (as root): $ ipp-inux-0x_0x_000x-i386 -insta -sient 3. When the instaation is competed, open a Web browser with the foowing URL: (where <@IP> is the IP address of the machine hosting the Eaton IPP) Uninstaing the IPP Linux Package If you chose the native packages for instaation, you can use your favorite packages management appication to remove the ipp-inux package. You can aso do the same from the command ine. For exampe: On RedHat and derivatives, use: $ rpm -e ipp-inux On Debian and derivatives, use: $ dpkg -r ipp-inux NOTE After uninstaing the native.deb or.rpm packages, some user's configuration and data are not removed, due to technica constraints. If you want to fuy remove these, use (as root): $ rm -rf /usr/oca/eaton/inteigentpowerprotector If you have chosen the generic instaer, use the foowing command for interactive uninsta (as root): $ /instaation/path/mc2 -uninsta For sient uninsta add the -sient parameter as shown beow (as root): Eaton Inteigent Power Protector (IPP) Quick Start Instaation Manua P Rev 1 9

14 Chapter 2 Service and Support If you have any questions or probems with the Eaton Inteigent Power Protector (IPP), ca your Loca Distributor or the Hep Desk at one of the foowing teephone numbers and ask for a technica representative. United States: Canada: A other countries: ext 260 Ca your oca service representative Pease have the foowing information ready when you ca the Hep Desk: Mode number Seria number Version number (if avaiabe) Date of faiure or probem Symptoms of faiure or probem Customer return address and contact information If repair is required, you wi be given a Returned Materia Authorization (RMA) Number. This number must appear on the outside of the package and on the Bi Of Lading (if appicabe). Use the origina packaging or request packaging from the Hep Desk or distributor. Units damaged in shipment as a resut of improper packaging are not covered under warranty. A repacement or repair unit wi be shipped, freight prepaid for a warrantied units. 15 Chapter 3 Warranty Eaton Inteigent Power Protector (IPP) WARRANTOR: The warrantor for the imited warranties set forth herein is Eaton Corporation, a Deaware Corporation company ( Company ). LIMITED WARRANTY: This imited warranty (this Warranty ) appies ony to the origina End-User (the End-User ) of the Network Card-MS (the Product ) purchased on or after June 1, 2004 and cannot be transferred. This Warranty appies even in the event that the Product is initiay sod by Company for resae to an End-User. LIMITED WARRANTY PERIOD: The period covered by this Warranty for the Product instaed [and currenty ocated] in the fifty (50) United States, the District of Coumbia, and Canada is twenty-four (24) months from the date of purchase. WHAT THIS LIMITED WARRANTY COVERS: The warrantor warrants that the Product (the Warranted Item ) is free from defects in materia and workmanship. If, in the opinion of Company, a Warranted Item is defective and the defect is within the terms of this Warranty, Company s soe obigation wi be to repair or repace such defective Warranted Item (incuding by providing service, parts and abor, as appicabe), at the option of Company. PROCEDURES FOR REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT OF WARRANTED ITEMS: The Warranted Item wi be repaired or repaced at a Company site or such other ocation as determined by Company. If the Warranted Item is to be repaced by Company, and the End-User suppies a credit card number or purchase order for the vaue of the repacement Product, Company wi use commerciay reasonabe business efforts to ship (via standard ground shipment and at no cost to the End-User) the repacement Warranted Item to the End-User within one (1) business day after Company receives notice of the warranty caim. In such case, the End-User must return (at Company s expense) the defective Warranted Item to Company in the same packaging as the repacement Warranted Item received by the End-User or as otherwise instructed by Company. If Company does not receive the defective Warranted Item, Company wi either charge the End-User s credit card, or send the End-User an invoice (which the End-User agrees to pay), for the vaue of the repacement Product. If the Warranted Item is to be repaced by Company, but the End-User is unwiing or unabe to suppy a credit card number or purchase order for the vaue of the repacement Product, Company wi use commerciay reasonabe business efforts to ship (via standard ground shipment and at no cost to the End-User) the repacement Warranted Item to the End-User within one (1) business day after Company receives the defective Product from the End-User. In any case, Company wi provide shipping instructions and wi pay its designated carrier for a shipping charges for return of defective equipment and repacement of Warranted Items. Any returned Warranted Item or parts that are repaced may be new or reconditioned. A Warranted Items returned to Company and a parts repaced by Company sha become the property of Company. WHAT THIS LIMITED WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER: This Warranty does not cover any defects or damages caused by: (a) faiure to propery store the Product before instaation; (b) shipping and deivery of the Product if shipping is FOB Factory; (c) negect, accident, abuse, misuse, misappication, or incorrect instaation; (d) repair or ateration not authorized in writing by Company personne or performed by an authorized Company Customer Service Engineer or Agent; (e) improper testing, operation, maintenance, adjustment, or modification of any kind not authorized in writing by Company personne or performed by an authorized Company Customer Service Engineer or Agent; or (f) use of the Product under other than norma operating conditions or in a manner inconsistent with the Product s abes or instructions. This Warranty is not vaid if the Product s seria numbers have been removed or are iegibe. Any Warranted Items repaired or repaced pursuant to this Warranty wi be warranted for the remaining portion of the origina Warranty subject to a the terms thereof. 16 Warranty Company sha not be responsibe for any charges for testing, checking, remova or instaation of Warranted Items. COMPANY DOES NOT WARRANT EQUIPMENT NOT MANUFACTURED BY COMPANY. IF PERMITTED BY THE APPLICABLE MANUFACTURER, COMPANY SHALL PASS THROUGH SUCH MANUFACTURER S WARRANTIES TO END-USER. COMPANY DOES NOT WARRANT SOFTWARE (IF APPLICABLE TO THE PRODUCT), INCLUDING SOFTWARE EMBEDDED IN PRODUCTS, THAT IS NOT CREATED BY COMPANY. WITHOUT LIMITING THE FOREGOING, COMPANY SPECIFICALLY DOES NOT WARRANT SOFTWARE (SUCH AS LINUX) THAT WAS CREATED USING AN OPEN SOURCE MODEL OR IS DISTRIBUTED PURSUANT TO AN OPEN SOURCE LICENSE. THIS WARRANTY IS THE SOLE AND EXCLUSIVE WARRANTY OFFERED BY COMPANY WITH RESPECT TO THE PRODUCTS AND SERVICES AND, EXCEPT FOR SUCH FOREGOING WARRANTY COMPANY DISCLAIMS ALL OTHER WARRANTIES INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY: The remedies of the End-User set forth herein are excusive and are the soe remedies for any faiure of Company to compy with its obigations hereunder. In no event sha Company be iabe in contract, in tort (incuding negigence or strict iabiity) or otherwise for damage to property or equipment other than the Products, incuding oss of profits or revenue, oss of use of Products, oss of data, cost of capita, caims of customers of the End-User or any specia, indirect, incidenta or consequentia damages whatsoever. The tota cumuative iabiity of Company hereunder whether the caims are based in contract (incuding indemnity), in tort (incuding negigence or strict iabiity) or otherwise, sha not exceed the price of the Product on which such iabiity is based. Company sha not be responsibe for faiure to provide service or parts due to causes beyond Company s reasonabe contro. END-USER S OBLIGATIONS: In order to receive the benefits of this Warranty, the End-User must use the Product in a norma way; foow the Product s user s guide; and protect against further damage to the Product if there is a covered defect. OTHER LIMITATIONS: Company s obigations under this Warranty are expressy conditioned upon receipt by Company of a payments due to it (incuding interest charges, if any). During such time as Company has not received payment of any amount due to it for the Product, in accordance with the contract terms under which the Product is sod, Company sha have no obigation under this Warranty. Aso during such time, the period of this Warranty sha continue to run and the expiration of this Warranty sha not be extended upon payment of any overdue or unpaid amounts. COSTS NOT RELATED TO WARRANTY: The End-User sha be invoiced for, and sha pay for, a services not expressy provided for by the terms of this Warranty, incuding without imitation, site cas invoving an inspection that determines no corrective maintenance is required. Any costs for repacement equipment, instaation, materias, freight charges, trave expenses or abor of Company representatives outside the terms of this Warranty wi be borne by the End-User.
