Port of the Future Marseille Fos: a European challenge The right tools to prepare a European gateway destiny Sept 9th 2014

On the international scene, the only way is up French ports are located at the crossroad of two of the three biggest world container trades Asia / Europe and Europe / Americas In 2013 the 120 biggest ports in the world manipulated 530 millions TEUS on the current trend, expectations for 2014 are at 560 million (+5,6%) And at more than 1,300 million for 2030 with the same trend ( 900 million on a trend of 3 % ). TEN-T Challenge for European ports Europe north and south ports reach 77 million ( 15 % ) of which North / South repartition is very unbalanced The three biggest North European ports ( Rotterdam / Hamburg and Antwerp ) have operated close to 40% of the total European TEUs in and out and 60 % of the so-called North Europe range.

Container trades: the European imbalance Net of transhipment, the imbalance grows bigger

The limits of concentration Focusing on Asia / Europe container trade : Bigger and bigger ships ( from 10.000 to 18 000 teu-size ) 26 loops on Asia Europe / 26 weekly calls in Rotterdam. The concentration of operations has grown very high in the last few years. Yet Southern ports are in capacity to operate the big units The port of the future will have no problem on the sea shore vertical container handling The port of the future will have to bring solutions to take containers in and out of the gate The limits of concentration are already experienced on roads / railways / inland platforms in the Northern range Clients want alternative network solutions

The southern alternative European supply chain flows have to define a new network mapping including the Southern alternative. Fluidity and efficiency in our consolidated network, competitiveness of our flows can only increase if we consider our European territory as a platform with DOUBLE ENTRY. We already have some very successful examples (port of Koper) Marseille Fos can play this role in France in containers as in other flows. At the center of this strategy : proactivity and productivity - The right infrastructure for each core traffic - Multimodal diversified routes on short and long distance with a strong incentive to massification - Dedicated and efficient logistic solutions - Facilitating the administrative formalities

European market: a new look at the potential hinterland

East West trades : an obvious alternative

North South trades: the evidence of Africa, South America and Intra Med

Railway connections

MedlinkPorts: an efficient network of river and inland platforms

Container Forecast 2030 The Port of Marseille Fos could forecast a potential container throughput of about 3 M teus by the horizon of 2030 This forecast is based on a dynamic trend : - The Mediterranean plays an alternative role vs Northern range - Revised planning of massified transportation in the European network development on the «double entry concept «.

Throughput figures 2013 : a very high oil-dependent ratio First French Port Global Throughput: 80 MT General cargo: 17.5 MT (+7%) Incl. Containers: 1.1 M TEU (+3%) Dry Bulk: 13.2 MT (+7%) Liquid Bulk: 49.5 MT (-12 %) Incl. Hydrocarbures 46 MT (-12 %) Passengers: 2,6 million (+7%) Incl. Cruise: 1.16 million (+31%)

Throughput figures 2014 (up to August) Global Throughput: 52.3 MT (-4%) General cargo: 11.9 MT (+2%) Incl. Containers: 0.8 M TEU (+6%) Dry Bulk: 8.9 MT (+4%) Liquid Bulk: 31.5 MT (-8 %) Incl. Oil products 28.9 MT (-9 %) Passengers: 1,6 million Incl. Cruise: 0.8 million (+5%)

The port of the future: Partner of the territory, actor of the city

Marseille: dedicated passenger and cargo terminals and shortsea hubbing

FOS: dedicated terminals to dry bulk, liquid bulk, breakbulk, containers and logistic development.

Urban development: the port-city challenge TERRASSES DU PORT Building of a huge shopping complex on the upper deck of the Port facilities (while preserving the ground floor for operations)

Urban development: the port-city challenge SILO D ARENC Renovation of a former silo into a modern concert hall and business centre (while keeping the ground floor as the way in for ferry passengers)

Urban development: the port-city challenge J1 : An ancient warehouse renovated for cultural demonstrations and new maritime activities downtown (yachting, innovation, environment)

Urban development: the port-city challenge RAILWAY-ROAD MOUREPIANE TERMINAL A massive railway terminal (850 m) between port and city dedicated to continental and maritime traffic, ideally located for city logistics

Industrial development: the energy diversification challenge PIICTO An industrial and innovative platform (1,200 ha) for energetic mutation set up by 9 major companies together with the port authority to promote industrial exchange (materials, energy, waste), generate operational competitivity, facilitate implantation. Our vision : a territory dedicated to circular economy and developmentfriendly industries. Our innovation: a specific area of 12 ha dedicated to pre-industrial pilotes in the new field of industrial and energy innovation Our challenge: to create a «plug & play» platform Our objective: to improve the Fos area economic and industrial attractivity

Sustainable development: onshore power supply project Medium-term visibility on traffic Electricity grid on board in 50 Hz Layout of port electric grid One of the longest residence time at berth : more than 4 000 hours per year Proximity of the city center

Sustainable development : experiments in progress Developing new methods and technologies in the field of ecological engineering around port and marine areas ( measuring and sustaining marine biodiversity ) Testing Offshore floating wind turbine Drilling for geothermic water distribution

Port of the future : a key actor in the European economic development The challenge of gateway efficiencies : maritime and inland deliveries at the heart of commercial and industrial competitivity in Europe. The role of ports is critical. Southern gateways will improve efficiency and fluidity of our European transportation network Port and its territory : the right formula of integration and complementarity. The sustainable development challenge : a new approach towards a proactive vision and impact measurement.
