Half of the Norwegian population lives less than three hours from the Port of Oslo. The main road network is only a short distance from our busy terminals. Cargo can also be loaded directly onto trains. Nine container ships call at our ultra-modern container terminal every week. We have RTG and SSG cranes that can handle up to 27 containers per hour. In 2010 we set a new record for containers through the port. 5.4 million tonnes of cargo arrived at Oslo by the sea route in ,000 new vehicles 2 million tonnes liquid bulk 1 million tonnes dry bulk 2.3 million tonnes general cargo The port of Oslo is an intermodal port that is able to handle all types of cargo. Never before did so many containers take the sea route to Oslo as in 2010, when we loaded and unloaded a record number of TEU. The Port of Oslo has smart and simple logistics solutions; it takes only 15 minutes from gate to gate. From the oil pier we receive as much as 25% of Norway s consumption of oil, petrol and diesel. Trains leave the port every day bound for Oslo Airport Gardermoen carrying jet fuel.

We are building one of the world s most space-efficient ports Dag Sem, Terminal Director The new port will double our current capacity 6 We receive three daily ferry calls from Denmark and Tyskland. A third of the general cargo we handle arrives by these ferries. The ferries have large load capacities and arrive at the centre of Oslo. The population of Oslo is in a period of strong growth. We are therefore expanding the cargo terminal to be able to handle all the goods which consumers demand. The new cargo terminal will be ready in 2015 and will have the capacity to handle double the number of containers as today, as much as TEU. It will be one of the most space-efficient ports in the world, with five SSG and RTG cranes, 10 stacker cranes and a 700 m long deepwater quay. It will be an intermodal hub that can handle all types of cargo. Container growth. Port of Oslo has nine weekly calls by container ships. Three calls daily. A third of the cargo comes with the ferries.

For example, did you know that 150 semi-trailers with 24.5 tonnes of cargo driving from Rotterdam to Oslo emit 20 times more CO2 equivalents than if the same quantity of goods had been carried by cargo ship? The Port of Oslo holds high environmental ambitions and is working actively on transferring the transport of cargo from land to sea. That is why we have kept our prices low, year after year. Furthermore, this year we have begun to offer green discounts to environmental vessels yet another reason to choose the sea route to Oslo.
