The Port of Houston is expanding its container terminals to handle additional cargo from petrochemical plants being built in the region and from the expanded Panama Canal. Other Gulf ports including New Orleans, Mobile, Tampa and Gulfport, have been investing in container and intermodal rail terminals in anticipation of increased volume Several ports along the Gulf have completed or are in the midst of harbor-deepening projects to accommodate larger vessels.
