Training Outline
Training Outline Effectively processing multiple documents with projects Creating a new project Specifying general project information (name, due date, language pair) Adding source documents and reference files Adding language resources, i.e. TMs, AutoSuggest Dictionaries, and termbases Automated project file preparation Reading the project statistics General project overview Reading the analyze/pre-translate reports Project files overview Translating pre-translated files Multiple TM lookup global find and replace Changing the segmentation on the fly: splitting and merging segments Display filtering: only showing segments of a particular type Creating an AutoText entry on the fly 5
Training Outline Finalizing the project Updating the TM with all reviewed document content Creating the target files to deliver Merging several files into one Use case for merging documents, i.e. QA check and find/replace operations in a single document rather than in many files Effective repetition handling: AutoPropagate settings Automated quality assurance (QA) What is a QA Check? Configuring QA settings Interactive vs. batch verification 6
Training Outline Ensuring terminological consistency through term verification What is term verification? Configuring the verification options Reviewing files Effectively handling reviews in SDL Trados Studio Opening a translation in review mode Applying and tracking changes Adding comments Signing off on translations Open the file in sign-off mode Filter for all segments with comments and/or changes Accepting changes Rejecting changes 7

Translation Projects in SDL Trados Studio 2011 Open document vs. New project
Translating Single Files (Open document) BPM One file One target language Default settings Translation/review in one No automated preparation Translate quickly SDLTM SDLTB Open document Translation Save translation DOC/X, PPT/X, XLS/X Open document Add TM, TB, AS Save bilingual SDLXLIFF SDLXLIFF SDLXLIFF Look-up in TM, TB, AS Confirm translations Add comments Preview Spell checking (F7) QA Verification (F8) Terminology verification Save Target as Update TM Mark as complete Remove from list DOC/X, PPT/X, XLS/X A single file project is automatically created (.sdlproj) in the location of your source files. 10
Translation Projects (New project) Multiple files (incl. reference and localizable files) Multiple target languages Automatic preparation Project templates Package workflow Project creation Project preparation Translation Review Review Project finalization Delivery SDL Trados Studio 2011 creates its own project folder structure! Note: You can save the translated documents at any time! 11
Translation Processes Detailed View
Preparing a Translation Project in SDL Trados Studio 2011 Preproduction & file preparation Project creation Project preparation Translation Convert to supported file format Check formatting Hide text Project information Languages Files Source files Reference files Localizable files Merge files Translation Memories Termbases AutoSuggest dictionaries QA settings Convert to translatable format Copy to target languages Analyze Pre-translate Create project TM Apply PerfectMatch Read reports Prepare quote Schedule project Confirm translations Add comments Preview Display filter Spell checking (F7) QA Verification (F8) Terminology verification You might want to pseudo-translate and test your files before starting the translation project. You can use project templates to speed-up the project creation. 14
Merging Files Merge multiple translation documents into one SDLXLIFF Useful when dealing with chunk files Merge different file types Useful when dealing with files with a lot of cross-file repetitions Project creation Project preparation Translation SDLXLIFF Merge files! Faster than opening dozens of single files in the Editor one-by-one. 15
Working with Several Translation Memories During translation you can: Look up entries in several translation memories Copy entries from several translation memories into your translation Use concordance search on several translation memories Select and update several translation memories SDLTM SDLTM SDLTM Translation BPM SDLTB You can create seperate TMs for each customer, department or subject field and use them in combination according to the project requirements. 16
Using Reports and Statistics Confirmation statistics How much content has already been translated Pre-translation statistics How many segments have been automatically pre-translated using the TMs specified File analysis statistics How many fuzzy matches contain the translation memories Information on repetitions etc. Verify files report How many errors have been found Reports and Statistics help you planning and budgeting your translation project. 17
Splitting / Merging Segments Documents are split according to pre-defined segmentation rules Correction is possible in the Editor through the context menu Split segment Right-click on selected segment IDs! Merge segment You cannot merge segments over structural element boundaries e.g. paragraphs! 18
Using AutoPropagate Confirmed translations will automatically be copied to all repeated segments in the same document. Depending on the AutoPropagate settings auto-propagated segments can be automatically confirmed. AutoPropagation works for exact and fuzzy matches. By default already confirmed segments will not be overwritten by AutoPropagate. AutoPropagate helps you to increase consistency in translated documents. Tools > Options > Editor > AutoPropagation 19
Using AutoText Extends the AutoSuggest functionality Words or phrases appearing frequently in your current translation that are not proposed from the AutoSuggest dictionary can be added to an AutoText list. Entries from the AutoText list will be proposed by AutoSuggest if you enter at least 4 characters. ALT+F7 AutoText lists are created per target language. You can add new words and phrases during translation via Tools > Add AutoText Entry. AutoText entries can be imported and exported (.autotxt). Tools > Options > AutoSuggest > AutoText 20
Reviewing and Signing-off Translated Files Using Track Changes New! Tracking Changes New! SDLRPX Sign-off Project finalization Review documents with track changes and comments Open for sign-off Display filter > Segments with track changes Accept / reject change Add comments Update TMs Update TBs Save translated files Export files Tracked changes from MS Word can be imported when using the SDLXLIFF converter for MS Word! The display filter can be found under View > Toolbars > Display filter. 22
