E-Learning LMS Requirements This section outlines the supported SCORM features provided by the Medworxx LMS. SCORM Support Medworxx will support SCORM 2004 (1.3) and higher. SCORM 1.2 is not supported. Third Party Course Authoring/Development Tools Medworxx has tested and will support the following third party course authoring/development tools: Adobe Captivate 3 Articulate Presenter 5 (with Articulate Quizmaker 2 and Articulate Engage) SCORM Compliance Course publishing/reporting options must adhere to the SCORM 2004 (1.3) standard. Course Version Control Upon import, courses will not be overwritten. If you import the same course twice, two separate courses will be created in the LMS. If you already have learner activity for a course and need to make a simple content modification and re-import, import the new course, then enter the new Start File as the Start File for the old course. This will instruct the old course to point to the new course content. Course Navigation The Medworxx LMS will use the multi-frame LMS course player for courses created directly in the LMS and will use the blank SCORM player for SCORM imported courses. Course Importing The Medworxx LMS will provide importing, delivering and reporting functionality for courses as a whole. At this time, the LMS will not import a course in chunks for re-use in a SCO library. Medworxx is investigating this option as a possible feature enhancement in the next major LMS release. 5 Publishing Learning Items into SCORM Compliant elearning This section outlines the process of publishing Captivate and Articulate courses into SCORM compliant elearning packages for subsequent importing into the Medworxx Learning Management System. Publishing Captivate Courses to SCORM When you are ready to publish your Captivate course, it is important to complete the following steps to ensure your files are successfully imported into the Medworxx LMS. Publishing SCORM Flash (SWF) Files: 1. Complete the following steps to publish a Captivate course to a SCORM Flash (.swf) file: a. In Captivate, click the Publish button. Copyright Medworxx 2008 All Rights Reserved Page 5 of 27

Note: Please refer to Appendix B for descriptions of the fields in the Publish dialog box. b. Complete the following: i. Enter a Project Title. ii. Choose the location for the published SCORM package (click the Browse button to change the existing path if desired). iii. In Output Options, select Zip Files and Full Screen. iv. In Project Information, click the Preferences button to enter project preferences. Copyright Medworxx 2008 All Rights Reserved Page 6 of 27

Note: Please see Appendix C for descriptions of the fields in the Quiz section of the Preferences dialog box. c. Select the Quiz Category and complete the following steps: i. Select the Enable reporting for this project option to track navigation and quiz results. ii. In Learning Management System section, select SCORM (we will look at the Manifest button in the next step d). iii. In Report Pass or Fail section, select Status as defined by report data. iv. Click the Settings button to choose your bookmarking option. If you want the LMS to track a learner s progress so that they may resume where they left off, ensure the Never send resume data is not selected. v. In the Choose Report Data section, select from one of the following options: 1. Quiz results and slide views - to track their navigation (slides viewed) and how they did on their quizz 2. Qiuz results only to track their quiz results only 3. Slide views only to track navigation for courses that do not include a quiz component; a Slide View Completion percent is also required for this option. vi. In Report Score to LMS as section, select Percent. vii. In Reporting Level section, select Interactions and score. viii. Click the OK button Copyright Medworxx 2008 All Rights Reserved Page 7 of 27

2. Complete the following fields in the Manifest dialog box: a. Make sure you choose 2004 for the SCORM Version (the Medworxx LMS does not support 1.2). b. Fill in the required Course fields (Identifier, Title, Description and Version). c. You do not have to enter SCO information at this time because the Medworxx LMS does not support management of a SCO library. All SCORM courses are expected to be complete courses, not SCO s that require further assembly in the LMS (this is a feature Medworxx is investigating for the next major LMS release SCO library and assembly management). d. Click the OK button. Note: Please see Appendix D for descriptions of the fields in the Manifest dialog box. A manifest file is used by the LMS to organize and share learning content. 3. Click the Publish button. 4. Once the contents have been published, you will see the following complete status and you can now import your course into the Medworxx LMS. Note: that the file created during the Captivate publish process described above should have been a.zip file with the Project Title name in the folder you entered in the Publish options screen. It is that.zip file you must import into the Medworxx LMS. Copyright Medworxx 2008 All Rights Reserved Page 8 of 27

Publishing Articulate Courses to SCORM When you are ready to publish your Articulate course, it is important to complete the following steps to ensure your files are successfully imported into the Medworxx LMS. Publishing SCORM Flash (SWF) Files: 1. Complete the following steps in PowerPoint (Note: Articulate Presenter lets non-technical users create e-learning courses by adding narration and interactivity to a standard PowerPoint file). a. Open your presentation (including scored or unscored quizzes). b. Open the Articulate menu and click the Publish option. Copyright Medworxx 2008 All Rights Reserved Page 9 of 27

c. Choose the LMS option from the Publish dialog box. d. Identify the location of the learning item in the folder section. e. Choose the Player template. Copyright Medworxx 2008 All Rights Reserved Page 10 of 27

Importing SCORM Courses into the Medworxx LMS Once you have published your Captivate or Articulate course into a SCORM format you will need to complete the following steps to import your course into the Medworxx LMS. Steps to Upload SCORM Courses into the Medworxx LMS: 1. Login to the Authoring Studio. 2. Click the LMS, Learning Items and Import Items buttons. 3. Click the Browse button to locate the zipped SCORM learning item. 4. Highlight the desired file and click the Open button (the zipped file path will now display in the Learning Item section). 5. Choose SCORM 2004 for the Import Format. 6. Choose the applicable learning item (Course, Exam or Survey) from the Item Type menu. 7. The Create unique filesnames checkbox has no affect on the SCORM import you can leave the default selection. 8. Click the Import Now button. Copyright Medworxx 2008 All Rights Reserved Page 14 of 27

9. The LMS will indicate the import process will take some time, if this is fine, click the OK button; if you need to abort and continue later click the Cancel button. You will see the Importing. Please wait message on your screen. Copyright Medworxx 2008 All Rights Reserved Page 15 of 27

When the import process has completed, the LMS will take you to the course authoring screen where you can identify categories, catalogues, catalogue thumbnail, prerequisites, security and other pertinent information. Note: You cannot edit the course/quiz content within the LMS that must be done in either Captivate or Articulate, or whichever authoring tool you used to create the course. 17 Importing Modified SCORM Courses into the Medworxx LMS There are two instances when you will need to upload modified courses into the LMS: Replacing a current course: a course requires some minor changes that do not effect the content, structure or purpose of the course; - typical examples include fixing spelling mistakes, adjusting colours, images or logos and other minor changes. Adding a new version of a course: a course requires major changes to the extent that it will be considered a new version; - typical examples include adding/removing significant content and testing components, changing the order of the learning objectives and other major changes. Steps to Replacing a SCORM Course: 1. Upload the modified course into the LMS. 2. Copy the Start File information (found at the bottom of the Enter course information screen). 3. Open the original course and paste in the copied Start File information. 4. Delete the modified course. Note: the purpose is to upload the modified content, and link it to the original course, not add a second course. Copyright Medworxx 2008 All Rights Reserved Page 17 of 27

Steps to Adding a New Version of a SCORM Course: 1. Upload new course into the LMS. 2. Assign both courses (all versions) a specific category. Note: the category assignment ensures that you can still track learning history for all versions in one report. Running Item reports (Item Compliance Detail Report, Item Compliance Summary Report, Item Activity Report, etc.) will allow you to choose a category to group all your course versions into one report. 21 Term Definition privilege publish Part of the user profile that determines what kind of functions the user can perform, for example, whether they can create learning content or just take it. The process of making learning items appear in the catalogue. quiz SCORM (Sharable Content Object Reference Model) A test used during an online course to help a learner consolidate their knowledge. Does not determine whether or not learner passes the course. SCORM is a collection of standards and specifications for webbased e-learning. It defines communications between client side content and a host system called the run-time environment (commonly a function of a learning management system). SCORM also defines how content may be packaged into a transferable ZIP file. SCORM 2004 introduces a complex idea called sequencing, which is a set of rules that specify the order in which a learner may experience content objects. The standard uses XML, and it is based on the results of work done by AICC (CBT), IMS Global Learning Consortium, IEEE, and Ariadne *Source: SCORM, From the Wikipedia website, survey XML - extensible Markup Language (a superset of HTML) Similar in structure to an online exam, except the purpose is just to solicit information, so answers are not judged to be correct or incorrect. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a general-purpose specification for creating custom markup languages. It is classified as an extensible language because it allows its users to define their own elements. Its primary purpose is to facilitate the sharing of structured data across different information systems, particularly via the Internet, and it is used both to encode documents and to serialize data. *Source: XML, From the Wikipedia website, Copyright Medworxx 2008 All Rights Reserved Page 21 of 27
