A warm welcome to St Jérôme C E Bilingual School Dear Candidate Thank you for your interest in becoming a founding member of the leadership and administration team at St Jérôme C E Bilingual School that opens with two reception classes to serve the people of Harrow in September 2016. I hope that this information pack provides you with the information you will need to understand our exciting vision for the school. We have already appointed an experienced Head of School to support me in the leadership of the school and we are in the process of appointing a team of passionate, creative and ambitious teachers to work with us and the many children and families who have applied to the school. We are already a highly over subscribed school. St Jérôme C E Bilingual school will be located on Station Road in central Harrow and will be working in close partnership with Harrow School and Holy Trinity C E Primary School Northwood. As a founding member of the leadership team you will have the unique opportunity to contribute significantly to our bilingual approach to learning and teaching and will have access to state of the art professional development and resources. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to discuss the exciting opportunities on offer in more detail. I look forward to receiving your application. Revd Daniel Norris MBA NPQH Executive Headteacher 1

Our Vision The vision for St Jérôme C E Bilingual School is to provide an outstanding Church of England Primary School that enables children to achieve exceptionally well in all areas of the English National Curriculum and in addition to develop a high level of fluency in French. The school will develop as a centre of excellence for the teaching of language and communication skills and this will ensure that all children, including those with English as an additional language, make rapid and sustained progress in literacy skills. The development of the school will be grounded and engaged in research at an international level. We are delighted to have secured a long term research partnership with the University of Cambridge and a range of experts in the field of bilingual education. We will be developing the most effective pedagogy for teaching language skills to raise standards and hopes to make a contribution both locally and nationally to raising standards in English Literacy, bilingualism and the teaching of Modern Foreign Languages to primary school age children. St Jérôme C E Bilingual School will provide an early partial immersion learning experience where children will have the opportunity to learn and communicate actively in both English and French. Classroom learning environments will reflect both the English and French languages and all signage and communication in communal areas will be in English and French. Staff will model the use of English and French so that children become familiar with the use of both languages for communication. Classrooms and the school library will include books and resources in both English and French. There will be opportunities for the explicit teaching of language and for the development and application of language through cross-curricular learning and additional optional enrichment. The routines of school life, for example collective worship, lunch and play times, will provide planned opportunities for the use of both English and French for children to communicate in real and meaningful contexts. The school website will contain a wide range of digital learning materials that will enable children and their families to access learning resources in both English and French in the home. There will be regular opportunities for children to communicate with French native speakers through the use of video-conferencing and email, visitors, links with other bilingual schools and through residential visits to France. Through our partnership with Eurostar both our children and staff will be able to make our international links a reality. We have already secured partnerships with schools around the world. We are looking for an experienced administrator with strong financial skills and who is passionate about developing a highly effective and efficient school. 2

Holy Trinity CE Primary School Northwood Our Partner School Holy Trinity is a small and welcoming school at the heart of its community and with close links to Holy Trinity Church. We will be developing the same ethos and partnerships at St Jérôme. Holy Trinity School is a forward thinking and innovative school that embraces change positively. We strive to deliver the very best and are keen to ensure that every new strategy, technology or innovation is available to our children to support and enhance their learning. We are proud that we were the first school in our local area to pilot the use of Apple and mobile technology in our classrooms. We have found that our ipads and imacs enable staff and pupils to be more creative and can be a highly effective tool for inclusion. Our staff team is passionate about learning and we are currently developing the Building Learning Power approach in classrooms to enable our children to be highly effective independent learners who can show resilience and resourcefulness. Behaviour is outstanding at Holy Trinity and is deeply grounded in our school Christian values. We are a rights respecting school and each class has a charter of rights and responsibilities linked to the UN Convention on the rights of the child. RE is a core subject and collective worship has a very high priority. In all that we do we prioritise the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of our children. At Holy Trinity we believe passionately in the professional development of our staff. We are a centre for teacher training in partnership with the LDBS SCITT and we also lead training for other local schools. We maximise the support available to us from Hillingdon Local Authority and the London Diocesan Board for Schools and have many highly effective partnerships. A number of our staff have completed accredited training courses in their time here and I am keen to see each and every member of staff grow and flourish professionally during their time at the school. You will find the staff team to be a very friendly, supportive and professional team and we seek to build effective relationships of trust within the team. Our leaders lead by example, have high expectations and we seek to lead with integrity and humility. Our vision for St Jérôme C E Bilingual school has been developed out of the good practice that has been established at Holy Trinity and there will be the opportunity for staff at St Jerome to collaborate and work in partnership with staff at Holy Trinity. We have already built strong links with the parish of St John the Baptist Greenhill and look forward to being involved in the life of the local community and parish. 3

World Class Professional Development St Jérôme C E Bilingual School is committed to the professional development of its staff. We have already developed strong partnerships with Harrow School, The University of Cambridge and experts in the field of bilingual education. We are working with the French Ministry of Education and are linking with bilingual schools around the world. As part of the family of Church of England schools in the Diocese of London and having a strong link with our partner school Holy Trinity C E School Northwood we will be able to offer our staff the highest quality support and opportunities to develop their career. The LDBS SCITT provides high quality teacher training in London and we intend to work with them to develop specialist-training pathways to support teachers to work in bilingual schools. Our staff also have access to a wide range of outstanding training opportunities through Grow Education Partners the training and development arm of the LDBS. 4
