1 JOB DESCRIPTION: Curriculum Support Officer (CSO) Grade: Responsible to: Responsible for: Hours of work: ME6 ( 18,915-20,877 FTE) Deputy Headteacher s PA - Curriculum Supporting students and staff This post is full-time 35 hours per week / 39 weeks per year (term time plus 5 training days) General Information The Curriculum Support Officer will work across the school s departments to support the smooth running of the teaching and learning. You will be directly line managed by the Deputy Headteacher s PA who has overall responsibility for the management and deployment of Curriculum Support Officers. Purpose of Job and Description of Duties The primary responsibilities of the CSO are to:- 1. Supervise whole classes during the short-term absence of teachers within departments. 2. Provide general administrative and resource support for the Department(s) as required; this could include research, display/preparation of materials, and the contacting of parents regarding straightforward matters 3. Supervise groups of students in extra-curricular, detention, study or homework clubs as required, or on field trips or school trips 4. Support teachers and students in classes as required by the Departments 5. Undertake break, lunchtime or examination supervision as required 6. Ensure a tidy and well-presented working environment within the Departmental areas/buildings. To manage and maintain the presentation, display and renewal of the departmental notice boards in corridors and classrooms as required 7. Undertake stocktaking and requisitioning of equipment as required 8. Undertake duties as might reasonably be required by the Headteacher
2 Specific Duties Relating to the Supervision of Classes or Individual Students 1. Follow the teacher s instructions with regard to the conduct and content of the lesson 2. Support students to stay on task, by providing a supportive but well-disciplined environment which complies with the school s expectations of behaviour and work; operate the school s behaviour and reward policy 3. Promote positive values, attitudes and good student behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with established policy and encourage students to take responsibility for their own behaviour and learning 4. Be aware of any special needs of students within the class and respond accordingly, encouraging each student to do their best 5. Provide objective and accurate feedback to the teacher of the conduct of the lesson and the response of the class, taking the register and other records as requested, including recording behaviour management on SIMS 6. Make appropriate use of ICT and other resources in line with requests Support for the School 1. Comply with and assist with the development of policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person. 2. Be aware of and support difference and ensure all EAL students have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop. 3. Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school. 4. Establish constructive relationships and communicate with other agencies/professionals, in liaison with the teacher, to support achievement and progress of students. 5. Attend and participate in regular meetings. 6. Participate in training and other learning activities as required. 7. Recognise own strengths and areas of expertise and use these to advise and support others. 8. Be responsible for the provision of out of school learning activities within guidelines established by the school. 9. Assist teachers in offering mentoring support and guidance. 10. Offer mentoring support and guidance for students undertaking work experience activities within secondary schools. 11. Support and guide other less experienced learning support assistants work in the classroom when required. 12. Contribute to the overall ethos, work and aims of the school by attending relevant meetings and contributing to the development of policies and procedures within the school. Also participate in staff meetings and training days/events as requested. Personal Responsibilities: 1. To follow school procedures regarding signing in and out, as well as any other procedures relating to attendance. 2. Playing a full part in the life of the school community, supporting its distinctive ethos and encouraging staff and students to follow this example. 3. Supporting the school in meeting its legal requirement for worship. 4. Actively promoting school policies and procedures. 5. Responsibility for own continued professional development. 6. Compliance with the school s Health & Safety policy undertaking risk assessments as appropriate. 7. To be courteous to colleagues, visitors and telephone callers and provide a welcoming environment. 8. Attending meetings scheduled in the school calendar punctually. 9. Adhering to the School s Safeguarding Policy.
