2 Dear Applicant, September 2015 RE: Learning Support Assistant/ After School Club Play Worker (term time only) Thank you for taking an interest in these exciting new roles. We at The Crescent Primary School pride ourselves on being innovative and always trying to do the very best for all of the children in our care. We need more high quality people in our after school club and so have invented a completely new role for our school. We are offering a flexible way of working and a varied role that will see the successful applicants supporting children at lunchtime, in the classrooms and at After School club. We need well educated, patient and enthusiastic people who enjoy helping children learn and thrive on variety. You must be a team player, very flexible and able to work on your own initiative. Details of how this role will work: Learning Support Assistant/After School Club Play worker 11.45am-1.00pm Supervising lunchtime with other colleagues. 1.00pm-2.45pm Supporting identified children with their learning in one to one, in small groups or in the classroom with a short break. 2.45pm-6.15pm Collect children who attend after school club and work with the after school club team to provide children with very high quality provision. 4 Job Profile for Learning Support Assistant to be combined with Play worker role Job Title: Learning Support Assistant Hours: 11.45am to 2.45pm Duties: To support teaching staff in the development and education of pupils. To enable access to learning and to assist teachers in the management of pupils and the classroom. Support for pupils: Be open with pupils and have sympathy for what concerns them. Relate well to parents. Relate in a friendly but firm way with a wide range of personalities. Maintain pupil s interests and motivation. To be aware of pupil s achievements, progress and any areas for development and report to the teacher as agreed. Establish a constructive relationship with pupils and interact with them according to individual needs. Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement under the guidance of a teacher. Support for teacher and the school: Work to support pupils either individually, in small groups or as a class. Take responsibility for intervention programmes with small groups. Clarify and explain instructions to pupils. Monitor progress and contribute to future planning. Keep the learning environment tidy and well organised. Plan and prioritise regular and irregular tasks. Communicate effectively with others including parents, governors and other members of staff. Person Specification for a Learning Support Assistant Knowledge and Experience: Experience of working with children in a school or nursery environment. Able to use ICT effectively to support learning. Working knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and National Curriculum. Personal Qualities: Maintain confidentiality inside and outside the school. Enjoy working as part of a team. Be a good communicator able to relate well to children and adults. Have an awareness of health and safety in the workplace. Be patient and very flexible. Be adaptable and always willing to have a go. Be supportive of colleagues. Able to use initiative. Be willing to learn. Be very energetic with a good sense of humour. Desirable Criteria: Have NVQ qualifications.
5 Job Profile for Afterschool Club Play Worker to be combined with Learning Support Assistant role Job Title: Hours: Location: Reporting to: After School Club Play Worker 2.45pm 6.15pm The Crescent Primary School, The Crescent, Selhurst, Croydon CR0 2HA The Extended Services Manager Main Responsibilities: Assist in preparing the Afterschool Club facilities and activities to ensure agreed high quality standards are met. To set up and pack away equipment as needed, in a timely fashion for a 3pm start and 6pm finish. To supervise the children as they eat their dinner encouraging social skills; conversation and table manners. Provide students with the opportunity to have a variety of free play and structured play physical activity, creative activities, reading and other forms of support. Establish good relationships with children. Interact positively with children, encouraging co-operation and mutual support. Monitor children s well being; provide help and support to children. Encourage good behaviour by using praise and reward and taking action with poor behaviour in line with school policy. Ensure health and safety of children - maintain a register of children attending, ensure students are signed in and out of the club, control access to other parts of the school, administer any necessary basic first aid, record all injuries in the accident book, record all incidents in the incident book ensure children understand action to be taken in case of fire. Recognise the importance of an Afterschool Club and the impact it has on pupils learning, attitude to the School and home life. Taking pride in providing enjoyable dinner and activities for pupils. Anticipate pupil s needs and make suggestions to support them. Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person. Ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop. Duties and responsibilities of the post may change overtime as requirements and circumstances changes. The person in the post may also be required to carry out such other duties consistent with the grade from time to time. To contribute as an effective and collaborative member of the School Team: Participate in training. Undertake first aid and safeguarding training as required. Participating in the on-going development, implementation and monitoring of the service plans. Attend meetings and team briefings to ensure the policy and procedures of the school are upheld.
