Next Frontier Inclusion Apt A2-1, Desa U Thant, 14 Jalan Taman U Thant, 55000 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Email: nextfrontierinclusion@gmail.com Phone: 6012-315-3961 The Next Frontier Inclusion proudly announces two seminal professional learning events: NFI Round Table Conversation November 18-19th, 2016 Hosted by the International School in Genoa, Italy And The Reggio Emilia Approach to the Education of Children With Special Rights (Infant-toddler centers and preschools as privileged contexts to encounter and to know, along with the families, children with special rights) November 20-23, 2016 Organized by Reggio Children in collaboration with Next Frontier Inclusion Program Descriptions: The NFI Round Table: Increasingly schools around the world are recognizing the need to become more inclusive of children and young adults who learn differently. School leaders are asking whether we have the right to cherry pick only those students who provide us with the least challenge. These are exciting and inspiring developments. We believe that through structured conversations, school leaders, board members, learning specialists and classroom practitioners can build both our capacity and our will to serve. This two-day professional conversation will focus on the opportunities and challenges that schools face on the journey towards inclusion. There will be sessions on high incidence populations, admissions, service delivery models, 1
collaboration, differentiation and the practical and financial issues that schools face. This two-day conversation is suitable for school leaders, board members, principals, classroom teachers and learning specialists. Because of the popularity of previous NFI Conversations, we need to limit each school to teams of no more than five participants. Registration is Euro 400 per participant from NFI Member schools and Euro 450 for non-member participants. Registration for NFI Member schools will open April 1, 2016 on a first come-first-served basis. If spaces remain available after June 1 st, registration will be opened to non NFI member schools. Payment is due by October 1 st after which NFI is unable to provide refunds. Participants will pay for airfare and accommodation separately. Infant-toddler centers and preschools as privileged contexts to encounter and to know, along with the families, children with special rights The Reggio Emilia Approach: This four day Reggio Children/NFI study tour begins on Sunday November 20 th. Participants in the NFI Round Table in Genoa who are also joining the Reggio Children s Study Tour will be taken by bus from Genoa to Reggio Emilia on Sunday morning. The program begins on Sunday afternoon with a tour of Reggio and an evening plenary with the NFI facilitators. In order to maximize the learning of the Reggio Children/NFI study tour, it is expected that all participants will have read The 100 Voices of Children (2nd Edition) prior to the visit. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, November 21-23, will involve on-site visits to Reggio Children and opportunities to meet with the Reggio leadership and professional staff in order to focus on their approach to support the development of children who learn differently. Our essential questions include: 1. What values, beliefs and assumptions drive our work in becoming more inclusive? 2. What specific skills do we need to further develop as we become more inclusive of children with special rights? 3. What concepts to we need to understand or perhaps rethink in order to embrace the learning of all children? During the evenings the NFI facilitators will lead reflection sessions focusing on what we are learning from Reggio Children and how these learnings may complement and/or challenge pre-existing beliefs and assumptions. 2
