In addition the role includes responsibility for mentoring, coaching and supporting tutors in agreement with Line Manager and advising Curriculum Managers as well as requiring contribution to the recruitment, retention and achievement of learners and effective liaison with appropriate staff across the College for the benefit of learners. SPECIFIC DUTIES: 1. To plan and deploy a range of effective and appropriate teaching and learning techniques to engage and motivate learners and encourage independence and learner autonomy. To develop, plan and deliver courses within the subject specialism in accordance with the requirements of Sutton College and the funding body, whilst ensuring that effective monitoring takes place. 2. To support the Management Team through the assessment of learners work and assist in moderation where required. 3. To attend to individual learner needs, assess progress and achievement and provide regular constructive feedback, whilst maintaining records of individual learning and attendance and be a role model of good practice. 4. To work with colleagues with relevant expertise to identify and address literacy, language and numeracy development in own specialist area including the development of study/functional skills where appropriate. 5. To establish a purposeful and motivating learning environment where learners feel safe, secure, confident and valued, promoting and 1
maintaining appropriate behaviour, communication and respect for others, whilst challenging discriminatory behaviour and attitudes 6. To select and develop a range of effective resources, including appropriate use of new and emerging technologies ensuring they are inclusive, promote equality and diversity. 7. To act as a mentor/coach to support own and others professional development, as appropriate; sharing good practice with others and engaging in continuing professional development through reflection, evaluation and the appropriate use of resources. 8. To evaluate and improve own communication skills in order to maximize effective communication and overcome identifiable barriers to communication by utilising active listening and questioning techniques appropriately and effectively in a range of learning contexts encouraging learner progress. 9. To ensure learners understand, are involved and share responsibility for assessing their learning by devising, selecting and using appropriate assessment tools fairly and effectively to produce valid, reliable and sufficient evidence. 10. To contribute to the organisation s quality cycle by producing accurate and standardised assessment information, and keeping appropriate records of assessment decisions and learners progress. 11. To collaborate with others, as appropriate, to promote equity and consistency in assessment processes, participating fully in internal and external verification. 12. To teach on an appropriate range of courses for a min of 580 hours over the course of the year to a range of student groups in accordance with the College Learning, Assessment and Teaching Policy and Ofsted requirements. 13. To work collaboratively on cross-college projects and activities and support departments to develop and enhance innovative ways of working for the benefit of learners. 14. To take responsibility for personal professional development in consultation with Line Manager, keeping up to date with your own subject(s) as well as national and local developments in adult learning and be proactive and willing to invest in own development subject to the availability of appropriate resources and job/organisational requirements. 15.
