3 Adults and Communities Job Description Post: Adult Learning Tutor Salary/Grade: BAES scp 00-2 Division: Younger Adults Section: Adult Education Service (BAES) 1. Job Purpose 1.1 To provide learning programmes for specified target groups, using appropriate methods to promote learning and achievement. 1.2 To carry out associated activities related to the preparation, delivery and assessment of learning programmes. 2. Duties & Responsibilities Pre-course preparation 2.1 To plan a programme against current course specification. 2.2 To provide information to assist in the promotion of the course for advertising, enrolment and for the Course nformation Sheet. 2.3 To prepare a scheme of work and make it available to the Line Manager. 2.4 To attend enrolment sessions and provide impartial information and guidance to enable learners to make appropriate course choices. 2.5 To attend induction and staff meetings. Teaching and Assessment 2.6 To negotiate learning goals with all learners and record these on the Learning Agreement Form. 2.7 To assist learners in setting realistic outcomes and record these on an ndividual Learning Plan. 2.8 To prepare thoroughly for each teaching session, using the Tutor Quality Course File which includes preparing a Session Plan and making use of appropriate resources and teaching materials. 2.9 To teach the course using a variety of relevant methods and approaches to enable and support individual learning styles To recognise and record learner progress, achievement and progression To direct and guide Learning Support Assistants/Volunteers.
4 2.12 To ensure equality of opportunity for all learners, by removing barriers to learning, encouraging learner autonomy, taking into account cultural diversity To assess learners and give regular, clear and constructive feedback on their progress 2.14 To undertake course reviews with learners On completion of the course to provide a review of the course to the Teaching and Learning Manager To take part in team meetings including standardisation, training and professional updating. Related Duties 2.17 To work within the BAES Quality mprovement and Self Assessment arrangements To ensure the Tutor Course File containing Scheme of Work/Session Plans and all records relating to teaching learning and achievement are kept to date To complete course registers accurately and respond to and record action taken for absences and withdrawals To keep records of learners destinations To mark assignments promptly To arrive punctually To leave the teaching area in a suitable condition for the next class To take responsibility for the Health and Safety of learners and comply with Health and Safety requirements within the work area and report any concerns to the staff responsible for the site To facilitate access to appropriate accreditation and progression pathways To become acquainted with, work within and promote the City Council s framework of policies and procedures at all times. Key policies include Equalities and Diversity, and Safeguarding. Learner Support 2.27 To provide impartial advice, guidance and assessment before, during and at the end of the course, including information on progression routes To identify individual learning needs and promote all forms of Learner and Learning Support including childcare, learner support funds, arrangements for support of learners with disabilities To contribute to the measures to improve the attendance retention and achievement rates of learners on the course, in consultation with the Teaching & Learning Manager and Curriculum Leader.
5 Professional Development 2.30 To gain appropriate teaching and subject qualifications within timescale agreed with line manager at appointment To attend in-service training as advised by line manager To keep up to date with national developments within the subject area(s) in adult teaching and learning To keep up to date with your won subject specialism General 2.34 Any other duties commensurate with the grade of the post. 3.
