Being involved in the festival is important for a business like us as it allows us to get our name seen throughout the borough. Publications and advertising raise our company profile and allows us to give something positive back to Rochdale. The festival has very quickly built up a reputation for quality and diversity and we can only see it going from strength to strength. We hope to continue our support in future years. Ken Park, Managing Director, Bright Books Origins of the festival The festival is due to the generosity of Annie and Frank Maskew, a Rochdale couple who shared a passion for reading and thinking, who originally met in Rochdale Library in the 1950s. They left a sum of money to be used on resources and events related to literature and philosophy to ensure classic works are available for future generations. Organised by Rochdale Borough Council, Rochdale Literature & Ideas Festival is the flagship event to promote the prestigious Maskew Collection, so a partnership can also enable companies to achieve corporate social responsibility objectives. Demographics The Rochdale Literature & Ideas Festival audience comprises families, young people and 25 65 year olds typically. All ages are represented in our audiences as the programme offers something for everyone. Visitors enjoy books, drama, comedy, music, films and the arts! As well as the borough of Rochdale, people travel to the festival from across the North West. Festival audiences are informed consumers, who support businesses which are committed to their communities. Annie Maskew Frank Maskew
