Matrix Technical Support Mailer - 23 Basic Concept of VOIP 20.06.2008 Dear friends, This mailer carries the information about basic concept of VOIP with example. This topic also explores IP classes, Private IP ranges & Internet connection types with VOIP calling possibilities. MATRIX VOIP PRODUCTS Setu ATA2S 2 voice channels & 2 SIP accounts Setu ATA2LL 2 voice channels & 2 SIP accounts Setu VP236S 1 voice channel & 2 SIP accounts Setu VP236P 1 voice channel & 2 SIP accounts Setu VFX44L 4 voice channels & 9 SIP accounts Setu VFX88L 8 voice channels & 9 SIP accounts Eternity GE VOIP card 8 voice channels & 32 SIP accounts Eternity ME VOIP card 8 voice channels & 32 SIP accounts Note: One voice channel means one speech path. You can connect maximum 4 VOIP card in an Eternity ME/GE. So, maximum 32 voice channels are possible.

Peer to Peer Calling (IP calling) VOIP CALLING TYPES We need to configure both systems on Public IP for peer to peer calling if both the systems are not in same IP Network. System A is configured with Public IP 203.88.142.219. Peer to peer table of system A is configured with Public IP (220.225.50.115) & extension numbers (401 & 402) of remote system. System B is configured with public IP 220.225.50.115. Peer to peer table of system B is configured with Public IP (203.88.142.219) & extension numbers (101 & 102) of remote system. When user of system A will dial 402 to communicate with user of system B, System A will pad IP along with 402. So, 402@202.225.50.115 will travel on the network. Destination will be decided by public IP padded with 402. Once it reaches to destination, Public IP will be removed & call will be placed on 402.

SIP Account Calling We need to register in SIP proxy server to get SIP account. SIP Proxy Server provides SIP ID, User name, Password, Registrar SIP server s URL/IP address & Port address. SIP Proxy Server controls all SIP calls. All SIP calls always route through SIP Proxy Server. System A is configured with SIP ID - 843361, User ID 843361, Registrar SIP server s URL/IP address fwd.pulver.com & Port address - 5060. System B is configured with SIP ID - 843362, User ID 843362, Registrar SIP server s URL/IP address fwd.pulver.com & Port address - 5060. User of system A will dial 843362 to communicate with user of system B. Call will be routed through SIP proxy server (fwd.pulver.com), where it will find SIP ID & status of system B. SIP Proxy server will controls the process & route call to system B
