1 Matrix Technical Support Mailer 148 Proxy Calling Dear Friends, This MTSM will help you to configure VoIP devices for proxy calling. INTRODUCTION: One of the methods being used in VoIP field is proxy calling. It is different from peer-to-peer calling as it required an intermediate server for making calls. This intermediate server is known as proxy server. Clients have to get registered into this server first and then can make calls. To get your VoIP device registered, following details are required from the proxy server: 1. SIP ID: It is the caller ID on which caller will call you. It is similar to the mobile number 2. Authentication ID: It is required for server-client interaction. 3. Authentication Password: It is a server-client parameter. 4. Registrar Server Address: It is the address of proxy server. It can be an IP address or any domain name. 5. Server Port: it is the SIP port of proxy server. ADVANTAGE: This type of calling is advantageous when there is a high frequency of international calls. Using regular trunks such as PSTN/CO, GSM or T1E1 for these calls will be very costly. To cut the cost proxy SIP trunk can be used. Any landline number or mobile number at other countries can be called using this trunk. SCENARIO:

2 To understand the proxy calling settings in an easier way, let us take a small example on registration of ETERNITY ME/GE/PE to a Proxy Server. SIP ID given by service provider is Authentication ID is similar to SIP ID Authentication password is 1234 Proxy server s address is iptel.org Server s port is 5060 HOW TO CONFIGURE PROXY SIP TRUNK Login as System Engineer in Web JEEVES of ETERNITY ME/GE/PE. Go to SIP Trunk Parameters under VoIP Configuration. Select any SIP Trunk No. for instance you have selected SIP Trunk No.1. Assign VoIP Port No. as 01 as it refers to the software port of VoIP Ethernet port. Assign the SIP ID given by the service provider. Here, you will have to enter Select SIP Trunk Mode as Proxy as you are going to register a proxy SIP trunk.

3 If you enable the flag of Check SIP ID during incoming call then ETERNITY will check the SIP ID during any received call on VoIP port.

4 Enter Proxy Server s address in Registrar Server Address. Here, it is a domain name and it is iptel.org. Registrar Server Port is the server port given by service provider. Here, it is 5060 only. By default it Enter Authentication ID. It is same as SIP ID so you will have to enter Enter Password. Authentication Password as per the service provider is Click on Submit to save the changes.

5 Moreover you have to define DNS IP address to resolve the VoIP port s DNS because in the registrar server you have entered a domain name. So it is recommended to resolve the VoIP port s DNS address. Go to VoIP Port Parameters and define a DNS Address as per the network.

6 You can view the status of SIP trunk just configured. For this go to SIP Trunk Status. Now you can assign this SIP trunk to any extension user to avail proxy SIP trunk. NOTE: Now you can use this SIP trunk to call any landline or mobile number just like you use your cell phone.
