Founding Dean School of Nursing Position Specification The Opportunity Montclair State University invites applications and nominations for the position of Founding Dean of the future School of Nursing. We are seeking a dynamic and visionary leader who will be instrumental in recruiting key school administrators and faculty, creating an innovative curriculum, integrating new practice models, building strong relationships with major healthcare providers, developing, cultivating opportunities for research, achieving accreditation, and raising resources for the school. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced leader to develop and apply their vision to a new school with innovative and creative models of education that will have a significant impact on the growth and culture of a thriving institution and its surrounding community. The future Montclair State University School of Nursing is anticipated to offer a variety of undergraduate and graduate degrees to address the need for nursing professionals both in New Jersey and nationally. The School will begin offering a RN to BSN program in September 2016 with other degree programs planned to roll out starting in 2017. The University is renovating an existing building to house the new School of Nursing. The state-of-the-art facility will include mediated lecture halls and classrooms, computer labs, an anatomy lab, a nursing skills lab, a home care lab, and simulation rooms outfitted with highfidelity mannequins.

Duties and Responsibilities Serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of the School. Provide strong leadership, oversight and guidance in all aspects of the School s educational programs, research endeavors, community outreach and service programs; encourage effective collaborative relationships; and foster excellence in teaching, research and service Develop the curriculum and programs necessary to meet the needs of the community, students, and region as well as the emerging needs of the rapidly changing healthcare environment The Dean is appointed by the President and reports to the Provost and Vice-President for Academic Affairs Develop plans to accomplish the mission, goals and objectives of the School and University Recruit and select chairs, faculty and staff with the knowledge, skills, abilities and motivation to accomplish the goals of the School Oversee and monitor all accreditation processes for the School Build partnerships across academic disciplines and administrative units Foster academic quality and the development of the highest level of faculty, staff and student potential Provide leadership for efforts to seek private and governmental support to increase the resources of the School. 3

Candidate Qualifications An earned doctorate in Nursing The ability to convey and execute a clear vision for the School of Nursing The ability to exercise intellectual leadership and inspire a strong sense of collaborative community and common academic vision among faculty, staff and students within the school, across the University, and in relation to the external community The ability to convey and execute a clear vision for the School of Nursing Demonstrated creativity in anticipating and addressing the educational needs of a changing healthcare environment A goal-driven approach to increasing the competitive prominence of the School regionally and nationally A proven record of developing beneficial and fund-raising partnerships and programs with public- and private-sector corporations, individuals, agencies and foundations Familiarity with the policies and procedures of nursing accreditation and commitment to meeting accreditation standards Superb managerial and fiscal skills, based on significant administrative experience and an informed understanding of the structures and values of an academic community Strong communication and persuasive skills to advocate for the School of Nursing and Montclair state University with internal and external stakeholders A solid commitment to maintaining and extending student, faculty and staff diversity An ability to effectively utilize developing technologies in nursing education and research 4

Leadership Susan A. Cole, President Dr. Susan A. Cole assumed office in September of 1998 as the eighth president of Montclair State University, which is the second largest university in New Jersey, with more than 20,000 graduate and undergraduate students. Dr. Cole served as President of Metropolitan State University in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota from 1993 to 1998 and, prior to that, as Vice President for University Administration at Rutgers University, The State University of New Jersey, Associate University Dean for Academic Affairs at Antioch University, and a faculty member at The City University of New York. Dr. Cole earned three degrees in English and American literature: a BA from Barnard College, Columbia University and an MA and PhD from Brandeis University. Dr. Cole writes and speaks extensively about current issues in American higher education. 5

Leadership Willard Gingerich, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Willard Gingerich joined Montclair State as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs in 2008. He came to the University from Fairleigh Dickinson University, where he served as Provost, Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Professor of English. Prior to that, at St. John's University, he held the position of Dean of the Graduate School before serving as Vice Provost for Graduate Programs and Research. A former Fulbright Scholar in American Literatures, Dr. Gingerich received his BA in English from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He studied in Mexico at the Universidad Nacional Aut6noma de Mexico and the Instituto Nacional de Antropologia e Historia before earning his PhD in English from the University of Connecticut, where he was both an NDEA Fellow and an NDFL Fellow. 6

Two campus train stations The University's park-like, 250-acre campus is primarily located in Montclair, New Jersey, just 14 miles west of New York City. Montclair is a diverse, affluent suburb of nearly 38,000 residents. This vibrant college town is filled with cafes and bistros, boutiques and restaurants, movie theaters and art galleries. An arts-oriented community, Montclair is home to numerous cultural attractions, including the Montclair Art Museum; the historic Wellmont Theatre that offers performances by an array of well-known musicians, artists and performers; other live theater venues; and an active, cultured and engaged population. Each spring the town hosts the Montclair Film Festival, showcasing filmmakers from a range of countries. There are several parks and nature reserves in Montclair, as well as public tennis courts, skating rinks and swimming pools. The town is home to minor league baseball's New Jersey Jackals, a rugby club and a cricket team. Montclair's public schools serve students from kindergarten through grade 12, as do a number of private and parochial schools. The neighboring towns of Bloomfield, Clifton and Little Falls each offer restaurants and shops and cultural activities to explore, while access to professional sports and big-name concerts is just minutes away. Two campus train stations provide regular service into and out of Manhattan, an approximately 45-minute ride. 7
