With 129 faculty, 134 staff and nearly 55,000 former students (alumni), the school consistently ranks among the top public business schools. Mays Business School s mission is creating knowledge and developing ethical business leaders for a global society. To accomplish this, the School partners with national and regional business executives to deliver relevant education shaped by industry expectations and insights. Mays is home to five academic departments and eight research centers, all of which work together to conduct award-winning research and provide the highest level of education for tomorrow's business leaders. The School s home in the Wehner Building offers a dynamic learning environment for faculty and students, featuring interactive teaching tools, wireless Internet throughout the building and multiple computer labs. Mays has a robust portfolio of degree and non-degree offerings. At the undergraduate level, Mays is well-ranked amongst the nation s public undergraduate business programs (#9 in Businessweek and #16 in U.S. News & World Report). Mays offers a BBA with seven majors; a BS in Agribusiness; a minor in business; and certificate programs in Entrepreneurial Leadership, European Union Business, Latin American Business, International Business and Retailing. At the graduate level, Mays has a suite of MBA programs (full-time, professional and executive; the latter two held at the School s CITYCENTRE campus in Houston) that also are similarly wellranked (#10 amongst publics, #29 overall in Businessweek; #14 public, #35 overall in U.S. News & World Report). Mays also has a robust portfolio of MS programs, with degrees in Accounting, Finance, Human Relations, Management Information Systems and Marketing; Masters in Real Estate and Agribusiness; as well as certificates in Business (for non-business majors) and Entrepreneurship. Finally, Mays offers world-renowned doctoral programs in Accounting, Finance, Management, Marketing and Operations and Supply Chain Management. 3 Texas A&M University Opened in 1876 as the state s land-grant and first public institution of higher learning, Texas A&M University is a research-intensive flagship university that develops leaders of character dedicated to serving the greater good. Texas A&M University is located in the twin cities of Bryan and College Station. The Bryan-College Station metropolitan area is the 15th largest metropolitan area in Texas with 228,660 people as of the 2010 census, and is centrally located, only a short drive from Austin, Dallas and Houston. The University ranks as the nation s sixth largest university in enrollment, with more than 53,000 students on the main campus and more than 365,000 former students (alumni) around the world. With more than $700 million in research expenditures generated by faculty-researchers, the university ranks 23rd among all universities in total research expenditures, and has an endowment valued at more than $5 billion, fourth among U.S. public universities and 10th overall. Texas A&M offers more than 120 undergraduate degree programs and 240 master's and Ph.D. programs, as well as doctorate degrees in law, medicine and veterinary medicine, in its 12 colleges. With the recent addition of the Texas A&M Health Science Center as a unit within the university, Texas A&M is now accredited to award baccalaureate, master's, doctoral and professional degrees across a variety of health care disciplines, including medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacology and public health. In addition, last year marked the beginning of the Texas A&M School of Law, accredited to award a J.D. degree. THE POSITION The Dean serves as the chief academic and executive officer of the Mays Business School. The Dean reports to the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs. Given the tradition of growth and the solid reputation of the Mays Business School, the incoming dean has a strong foundation upon which to build including a respected and productive faculty, a history of student success, strong employer connections, and continuous program development designed to meet changing market demands. The next Dean will lead Mays during an era of shifting market forces and increased resource needs. Like many business schools, Mays must continue to diversify and increase its revenue streams to support faculty hiring and program innovation. Within the context of a large, wellregarded public institution like Texas A&M, Mays has both unique opportunities and challenges for growth. Equally important, while the collective efforts of Mays faculty and staff have resulted in success across key dimensions including growing application numbers, student success upon graduation and a lean, efficient operation the impact of globalization requires the School to reflect upon its strategy, expand its reach and ensure that Mays clearly articulates a distinctive Texas A&M University Dean, Mays Business School Page 3 of 5

To this end, the Dean will lead a comprehensive process of identifying the School s strengths and opportunities and, with input from the university administration, faculty, former students (alumni) and other key stakeholders, develop a path forward for Mays to rise to the next level of national and international prominence. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES The Dean of Mays Business School serves as the chief executive officer for the School and leads the Mays Business School by securing the support and resources necessary to achieve its mission. The Dean provides leadership of all teaching, research, service, and continuing education activities and programs. The Dean represents the School within Texas A&M University and in all aspects of the school s external engagement, including fundraising, developing partnerships with industry, and enhancing the image and reputation of the college across the state, nationally and internationally. The Dean has overall responsibility for defining the School s strategic priorities; recruiting and maintaining a renowned faculty; creating and supporting educational programs of the highest quality; attracting excellent students; creating collaborative opportunities with other colleges and departments within the University; and developing resources and projecting the School and its strategic mission to support productive relationships with former students (alumni), donors, and local, national and international communities. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS The successful candidate will possess the leadership skills, vision, and enthusiasm to build on the Mays Business School s tradition of academic excellence. The new Dean will inspire a dynamic and innovative academic culture through awareness of the transformation required for a business school to respond to (and anticipate) changes in student demographics and values; in budgetary and other economic pressures; in traditional and internet-based education models; and in the increasingly connected, global society. As a senior academic officer, the Dean will be expected to work closely with key stakeholders inside and outside the school to foster excellence in all academic and research programs. The successful candidate must provide innovative leadership, have strong management skills and possess an ability to manage relationships across a wide spectrum of constituents. The Dean must also be able to drive academic excellence within a multidisciplinary faculty, a talented student body, and a variety of centers and programs in related academic departments. The Dean will exercise University-wide leadership in formulating policies and providing educational programs that engage Texas A&M University in responding to statewide issues, such as workforce and economic development, and other relevant national and international issues. A mature understanding of the working dynamics of a business school operating within a large university system is preferred, along with experience in, or aptitude for, administration and fundraising. However, candidates who hold distinguished records of professional and intellectual leadership or outstanding service will also be considered. 5 EDUCATION The successful candidate will have an advanced degree, preferably a Ph.D., DBA, or other appropriate terminal degree, in Business or a related discipline.
