Welcome to our forthcoming programme. We hope you will find what you are looking for, but if not, please let us know. Full details are available on our website. We aim to offer the best possible experience for adult learners in Cambridgeshire and we welcome your views on how we can improve our service. Please note: All courses are held on the North Site of Abbey College (via the Wood Lane entrance - opposite the duck pond) unless we inform you otherwise. N.B All debit and credit card payments must be made online or in person at the Adult Learning office. We cannot accept card payments over the telephone or via the post. Payment must be made at time of booking. If a course does not run your payment will be refunded. If you withdraw from a course before the start a 25% admin fee will be charged. If you withdraw during a course our refund policy (see page 7) will apply. ENROLMENT MORNING IN RAMSEY LIBRARY Come along to our enrolment morning at Ramsey Library on Saturday 13th September from 10am to 1pm, where you will have the opportunity to find out more about our courses.

Arts & Crafts Creative Sewing Mixed Ability (5 weeks) Wednesday 24th September 1900-2100 55 Are you inspired by Kirsty Allsop and the shabby chic art of sewing? If yes, then this creative and friendly course is the one for you. You will be amazed at what you can achieve. All abilities are catered for and some materials are included in the price. Digital Photography (5 weeks) Wednesday 24th September 1900-2100: Beginners 45 Wednesday 5th November 1900-2100: Improvers In the Beginners class you will cover a brief history of digital photography, understanding the basic camera settings, action photography, photographing people and much more. The Improver s course will cover landscapes, photographing nature, table-top photography, studio portraiture and night photography. Please bring your own digital camera and instruction manual. Art for Enjoyment Drawing & Colour - Mixed Ability (10 weeks) Thursday 25th September 1900-2100 99 This course will take students through the basics of drawing using the elements of Art and the work of artists to structure delivery. You will look at elements of line, tone, shape, form, perspective and learn how to use these well, using the media of pencil as well as colour. You will be encouraged to work at an individual pace and level and above all to enjoy being part of an artistic group! Initial materials are provided. Business & Computing Microsoft Word (4 weeks) Wednesday 24th September 1900-2100: 36 Do you want to produce more professional looking and complex documents? Using the Microsoft Word application this course will teach you how to move and copy text, create and edit tables, adjust margins, create borders, import graphics, number paragraphs, create headers and footers, use envelopes and labels tools, and a simple mail merge. This will enable you to use Microsoft Word more effectively at home and work.

Business & Computing continued Microsoft Excel (4 weeks) Wednesday 5th November 1900-2100 36 This course will enhance your knowledge of the Microsoft Excel application. You will learn how to create, save and retrieve spreadsheets, use simple and more complex formulae, preview and print your work, change page settings, and produce charts from the inputted data. An Introduction to Windows 8 (1 week) Thursday 25th September 1900-2100 15 Do you have Windows 8 and find yourself completely lost do you need some help? If yes, why not join this one-off session where you can familiarise yourself with the applications on your own laptop. We hope to offer some FREE courses in ICT Level 1, Maths (mixed ability Level 1/2) and English Level 1. Please contact us for more information. Cookery Cookery for Beginners (5 weeks) Thursday 25th September 1900-2100: 55 This is a relaxed and friendly class aimed at all adults who want to learn how to cook. You will prepare simple, healthy meals that won t take hours to cook and also learn about nutritional values. These meals can be adapted for one or more people. You will need to supply the cooking ingredients (the tutor will inform you what is required). It is suggested you bring a container to take food home in. Please let the office know if you have any special dietary requirements. Family Cooking (5 weeks) Thursday 5th November 1830-2030 Free Bring your children along to this relaxed and friendly class where you will learn the skills needed to cook a family meal together as a team. There will be a Christmas theme! You will need to supply the cooking ingredients (the tutor will inform you what is required) and bring a container to take food home in. Please let the office know if you have any special dietary requirements.

General Interest Mind Chi (10 weeks) Thursday 25th September 1900-2000 55 Learn how to reduce your every day stress, quieten your mind, improve your mental energy levels, relax and make better informed decisions. You will be amazed at how Mind Chi can help you realise how positive life can be! Everyone receives a copy of the Mind Chi book on the 6th session.

Home DIY for Beginners everyday problems! (3 weeks) Thursday 25th September 1900-2100 35 Get some general advice on basic DIY such has how to hang wallpaper, how to fit locks, how to use a drill safely, how to put up a shelf and how to change a tap. If you need further advice about other issues, please ask the tutor. Furniture Restoration/Woodcraft (10 weeks) Wednesday 24th September 1900-2100 95 You will learn how to use and look after hand tools and the art of staining, varnishing and polishing in a relaxed environment. You will be able to make items of woodcraft that reflect your capability or learn how to restore a chosen piece of furniture. Some materials are included in the price. Languages French Beginners (20 weeks) Wednesday 24th September 1800-1930: 135 Fancy learning a new language, then why not come and learn the basics of French to get by in everyday situations in a fun and relaxed atmosphere on our Beginner s course. German Beginners (20 weeks) Wednesday 24th September 1930-2100 135 Want to learn some German for business or pleasure? If yes, why not come along and join this fun class in a relaxed atmosphere. Spanish Beginners (20 weeks) Wednesday 24th September 1900-2030 135 Learn the basics in Spanish to get by in everyday situations in this fun and relaxed class.

Languages continued Introduction to Sign Language (10 weeks) Thursday 25th September 1900-2100 90 This is designed for hearing people who wish to learn finger spelling and basic signing to converse with and assist the deaf and hard of hearing or for their own interest. No previous experience is required and you will be amazed at what you will learn and how much fun you can have! DANCE Salsa (10 weeks) Wednesday 24th September 2000-2100 - Beginners 45 Wednesday 24th September 1900-2000 - Improvers 45 The Beginner s class aims to teach you the basic steps of Crossbody/LA style salsa and put them together in simple moves and turns. No previous experience is necessary, but a desire to learn and have fun is essential! The Improver s class is for those who will have some knowledge of Salsa and already be able to execute all footwork, clockwise turns and Crossbody leads. No partner is required. SPORT & FITNESS Yoga Mixed Ability (10 weeks) Monday 22nd September 1000-1130 at the Ramsey Community Centre 78 Wednesday 24th September 1900-2030 at Abbey College Yoga is suitable for everyone, regardless of age and ability. You will be introduced to Yoga techniques for flexibility, strength and enjoyment. You will improve your flexibility, core strength and relaxation which will help to reduce stress and tension. You will also be introduced to different breathing techniques.

KEY TO ABILITY LEVELS OF OUR COURSES: Beginner: Improvers: Intermediate: Advanced or Conversation: first year of study second year of study third year of study fourth or further year of study We offer a wide range of classes for different levels of ability if you are unsure which is the best class for you, then please come along and the tutor will be able to offer you some advice (please check beforehand to make sure that the class is running). Cambridgeshire County Council supports a wide range of adult learning opportunities across Cambridgeshire, including courses, clubs, community groups and family learning opportunities. REFUNDS A refund of any course fee is only available if the College closes a class or if you withdraw due to ill health: in this case, a doctor s note is required. Other exceptional circumstances may attract a refund at the Centre Manager s discretion. If a class is cancelled due to bad weather or tutor illness, then extra classes will be added to the programme and no refund will be available. CONCESSIONARY FEES Concessionary fees are available for people who are on Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) or Employment Support Allowance (ESA) evidence of which must be available on enrolment. Thinking of organizing an event? Abbey College is the ideal solution for your wedding reception, social gatherings, dances, parties, to name but a few. Our main halls can accommodate up to 200 guests for a formal dinner with plenty of room left over for dancing. They each take 350 guests seated in theatre style. Also, they are fitted with full sized stages, lighting rigs and sound systems and to create a more formal or luxurious setting, silk linings can be erected. Want your event out of doors? There is a lawned area that is large enough to house a marquee for 500 guests. Forming an attractive venue for many different types of event, while providing the perfect backdrop for photographs, there are lawns and landscaped gardens, the magnificent Abbey manor house (parts of which date back to the12th Century), all set among a wide variety of specimen trees that surround the site.
