2015 Leadership Development Programs Overview

OVERVIEW Leadership Development Programs WELD s mission is to develop and advance women s leadership to strengthen We do this by building programs, events, and a community to support leadership development and business growth. WELD s leadership programs consist of five pillars: WELD Leadership Series Signature Events Onsite Leadership Development Series (OLDS) WELD Energing Professionals Series (EPS) WELD Executive Women s Series (EWS) Attending WELD programs and events provides leadership development opportunities for women at all levels of their organizations and for women business owners. WELD is a great place to start for women who are just embarking on their careers and are seeking learning opportunities. Women who are at the mid-career level will find participation in WELD a perfect avenue for seeking strategies to become even more effective leaders in order to advance to the C-suite. WELD leadership programs offer women entrepreneurs business building networking opportunities, help them focus on their own leadership development, and provide leadership development ideas they can implement with associates in their companies. Lastly, women and men desiring to pay it forward can do so by mentoring and sharing their stories of professional growth and success by serving as speakers at our events. WELD also offers leadership programs for women who are at the highest levels in their organizations and wish to consider corporate board service and other opportunities. While most LS programs and all EPS and Signature Events can be attended by members and non-members alike, OLDS and EWS are exclusive to associates of our corporate members. Becoming a WELD individual, business level, or corporate level member provides women and men with the opportunities to: Grow their leadership skills by attending our programs and volunteering on our committees Expand their networks by interacting with influential leaders in our community Pay forward their success by serving as speakers for our programs and events Read on to find out more about our programs! 2

WELD Leadership Series PROGRAMS Each year, WELD chooses a specific leadership theme to form its strategic platform for the year. Our Leadership Series and other events will be designed around this theme in a holistic fashion that allows depth of coverage and reinforcement of skill building. There are two types of programs: New and Renewing Member Breakfasts These events are for members only and provide an excellent overview of WELD and how to get involved. Specialty topics will be presented as part of the agenda so that attendees can experience the WELD programming format and build their leadership competencies. WELD Leadership Series Individuals who attend all of these events in a given year will earn a certificate of completion from WELD. These events focus on the core leadership competencies that support the strategic theme for the year and are ideal for those who are just starting out in their careers or who are at midcareer level. In addition, they provide a perfect opportunity for executive level women and men in our community to increase their own visibility and impact by serving as guest speakers. These meetings typically are open to members and nonmembers alike. Our Leadership Series programs provide great opportunities for participants to build new relationships in the community and engage in potential business building discussions while investing time in their leadership development. Individual and Business Level members, as well as those who have the individual slots from their company s corporate membership, obtain price discounts for these meetings. 3

EVENTS Signature Events WELD s most visible promotion and delivery of its mission in the community are through its annual Signature Event programs: WELD Keynote Event WELD Leadership Conference Women You Should Know TM /Women WELDing the Way Calendar Reception The WELD Keynote Event, held every March, is our first major event of the year and attracts over 700 of our community s most prominent leaders. At this evening dinner event, a nationally-known woman leader addresses opportunities, issues, and challenges that women face in the workplace and shares her strategies for success. This event serves as the launch each year of our annual strategic theme upon which our remaining programs for the year are built. Our WELD Leadership Conference is a day-long conference hosted by Otterbein University that provides programming tracks for entry level, mid -career level, and senior level women and entrepreneurial women business owners. Since inception, our conference has educated nearly 900 women on how they can develop and apply important skills that will help them be successful in higher levels of leadership. This conference, held in June, also offers corporate board training for those executive women and successful women business owners who have corporate board service as a desired career goal or want to learn boardroom dynamics. Our capstone event for the year is our Women You Should Know TM / Women WELDing the Way Calendar Reception, which is held every November and attracts over 350 annually. At this evening reception, WELD features the achievements of 12 of our community s most outstanding professional women who are ready to move on to the next level of leadership such as serving on corporate boards. These women are identified through a community nomination process and selected by the WELD board. To promote these honorees in our community, WELD creates a calendar that highlights the achievements of each woman and impactful experiences that have shaped their leadership journeys. Do you know someone you d like to nominate? Visit the News & Events section of our website for information on the nomination process. 4

ONSITE Onsite Leadership Development Series One of the core programs that WELD offers for our corporate members is the Onsite Leadership Development Series. We bring WELD to you by conducting these sessions onsite at your company offices. Based on the level of membership, companies receive a certain number of sessions: Platinum 4 sessions Gold 3 sessions Silver 2 sessions Bronze 1 session Sessions typically include a 30 minute networking opportunity followed by 60-90 minutes of content delivery. You may choose to offer these as brown bag lunch seminars or during other parts of the work day. Anyone, including men, can attend these sessions, although sessions designed with an interactive format work best in smaller groups. To take advantage of this program, contact your WELD representative and she will review available topics with you and begin the process of identifying a speaker for your company and work with your team to plan and host the program. WELD makes every effort to find great speakers for topics we offer, but reserves the right to change our offerings should we not have a speaker with the right fit and skill sets available. The speakers that WELD identifies host these onsite sessions gratis for WELD. We see these sessions as an opportunity for outstanding professionals to obtain visibility at large companies, to receive letters of recommendation or endorsements from participants and to potentially be engaged contractually by companies for more in depth leadership development. 5

WYPS WELD Emerging Professionals Series Our region s emerging leaders are already making a positive impact in their organizations and communities. Research shows that although women are entering the workforce in relatively equal numbers as men, women are not advancing to higher levels of leadership at the same rate as men. It is mission critical for our community to support our emerging women leaders along their journeys so that they can continue to achieve their career aspirations. With this in mind, our organization created the WELD Emerging Professionals Series which will focus on a variety of topics relevant to high potential young professionals looking to shape their careers and family lives in their vision of success. Sponsored by a variety of companies in our community, this series will spotlight our Woman You Should Know TM /Women WELDing the Way honoree each month as the featured speaker. These amazing honorees will share the leadership lessons they learned along their highly successful career paths in a welcoming atmosphere at the corporate offices of our sponsors. This series will provide emerging leaders the opportunity to connect with some of our community s most accomplished emerging leaders and help them build strong networks of support designed to last for years in the future. These programs are open to members and non-members alike. Individual and Business Level members, as well as those who have the individual slots from their company s corporate membership, obtain price discounts for these meetings. 6

WEWS WELD Executive Women s Series When women reach the highest levels of leadership in organizations in sufficient numbers, research shows that these organizations significantly financially outperform organizations with fewer or no women in top leadership. Moreover, these same companies with more women in top leadership also give back more philanthropically to their communities than companies with fewer or no women in top leadership. With this in mind, our organization created the WELD Executive Women s Series which focuses on the leadership development needs of the executive women of our corporate members. The target audience also includes partners/managing partners in professional services organizations, physicians, and other senior level women of our corporate members. The attendees need not be the named individual membership holders for the membership slots that come with our corporate members, but they must be at the executive level. These programs are free, are offered quarterly as breakfast sessions and are hosted by corporate members who desire to volunteer their hospitality to our membership base. Attendance at this event is by invitation only to ensure the appropriate level of audience and provides great relationship building opportunities for executive women to meet their peers at other companies. Sample topics from past events include the following: Know Your Worth: Unlocking the Secrets of Executive Compensation Position Yourself for the Top Job: Executive Branding for Women on the Move Negotiation: The Art of the Deal Perspectives from the CEO Suite: What You ve Always Wanted to Know!
