Dear Corporate Sponsor, We are writing on behalf of the student branch of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers at the University of Houston. We are delighted and honored to reach out to you as a corporate sponsor of IEEE. Our branch of IEEE has consistently excelled in national and regional competitions and has made remarkable progress and growth over the past few years; this year we are proud to say we have recruited over 250 active members. We have won three times the Outstanding Student Branch Award at the IEEE Region 5 Conferences and twice the IEEE Houston Section Student Branch Award. IEEE provides an environment that fosters professional growth through company presentations at general meetings, company tours, and information sessions. At the annual Chili Cook-Off, our goal is to gives students a chance to interact with companies, alumni, and faculty in a relaxed setting. This upcoming year we are hosting our 37 th Annual IEEE Chili Cook-Off and we anticipate an even bigger event this spring. Our ability to host events are primarily funded by the generosity of companies such as yours. As we work diligently towards establishing new contacts with engineering companies, we welcome and greatly appreciate any assistance you might consider giving us. Donations benefit your company through increased visibility and access to our highly respected engineering programs at the University of Houston. We are always open to new ideas on how to better serve our members, our college, and our community. We would be glad to hear from you! Sincerely, Angela Ho IEEE-UH Student Branch President 3

Catalog of Events IEEE Annual Chili Cook-Off The IEEE Chili Cook-Off is the biggest event in the entire Cullen College of Engineering. Faculty and students from all engineering departments participate in this annual event. The event includes a number of activities such as a chili contest, a robotics competition, giant Jenga, volleyball, mechanical bull ride and great music. These activities create a fun and relaxed atmosphere for students, faculty, and company representatives to interact. We will be hosting our 37 th annual Chili Cook-Off on March 10, 2016. Last year we had over 1000 students in attendance and thirteen sponsoring companies. This provides a great opportunity for engineering alumni to represent their companies and interact with the engineering students and faculty. Total Cost $11590 Monthly General Meetings General meetings are our best way of relaying information to our student members. During the meetings we inform our members of upcoming events as well as relaying any scholarship, community service, job, and internship opportunities. During our meetings we recognize companies for their generous support and praise them on their contribution to the community. A guest speaker gives a presentation at every meeting from a wide variety of topics such as corporate culture, résumé enhancement tips, leadership, the importance of soft skills, as well as specific technical topics. General meetings are the easiest approach for our students to learn about your company and find out what it takes to be an engineer for you. Total Cost (8 meetings) $3680 IEEE Region 5 Conference This year we want to focus on the technical side of IEEE. Our goal is to get our members up to speed with constant technological advancements in the engineering community so that they can become effective leaders for tomorrow. One way to accomplish this is by sending members to the IEEE Region 5 Conference. Last year we were able to send fifteen students to the Region 5 Conference! Conferences are one of the best ways to promote leadership and inspire members to step up and become leaders. This year our goal is to sponsor just as many members and more to attend the IEEE regional conference. Conference Attendance Fees (16 people) $1700 Transportation/Hotel Cost (16 people) $1600 Total Cost $3300 6
IEEE X-treme Programming Competition 9.0 IEEE X-treme is a global challenge in which teams of IEEE student members supported by an IEEE Student Branch, advised and proctored by an IEEE member compete in a 24-hour time span against each other to solve a set of programming problems. We want to continue this tradition and encourage students to compete with teams from all around the world in this challenging programming experience. Meals, snacks, and drinks are provided for the full 24-hour time period. Total Cost $750 IEEE Buffalo Wild Wings Social Each semester IEEE hosts a Buffalo Wild Wings social where members come out and enjoy free wings. This event provides a great networking experience as well as adds to the sense of community within IEEE. IEEE generally teams up with another engineering organization to promote networking with other engineering disciplines. This year we would like to invite professionals and alumni to Buffalo Wild Wings night and hope to attract even more members to the social as well as give companies the ability to connect with IEEE members. Total Cost (2 per year) $2000 IEEE Study Nights During both the Fall and Spring semester, we host bi-weekly study nights in our very own, reserved IEEE student lounge. This lounge provides a refuge from distractions whilst providing underclassmen an opportunity to ask questions to the upperclassmen that have already taken the courses. An important habit to learn as an engineering student is to learn to work together, in a constructive manner, providing input, to quickly and efficiently analyze engineering problems. Light snacks and drinks are provided during the study nights. Total Cost (14 study nights) $700 MAES Science Extravaganza IEEE participates in an annual outreach event called MAES Science Extravaganza where middle and high school students from local high schools participate in workshops and activities centered around STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). IEEE is involved with hosting several workshops and activities, which include circuit bingo and hands on robotics labs. Total Cost $1000 7
IEEE Scholarships Each year we reward students for their hard work and perseverance in the form of scholarships given at our end of the year meeting. Last year we were able to give a total of 2 scholarships. We also awarded four other active members with $50 gift cards. Through a Volunteer Point System, we want to recognize and award 4 outstanding members that show commitment and are the most active throughout the year. Ideally, we would also want to give 4 more scholarships based on merit and leadership qualities. Active Member Scholarships (4 members) $450 Future Leader Scholarships (4 members) $1000 Total Cost $1450 Banana Bend Social School is about to start and summer is about to end therefore IEEE organizes a beach social at Banana Bend; a large lake that has cabanas, music, volleyball, and much more. This year all UH alumni will be invited to attend in order to help members network in a relaxed and fun environment. It is a great way to start the school year. Total Cost $1000 Alumni and Company Networking Events One of our branch goals this year is to promote and expand our networking events, with companies and alumni. Planned events include tailgating to football games at our new stadium, an IEEE student branch weekend where the Rice, A&M, and UT IEEE branches will be invited to come network with our members, and company tours. Total Cost $4000 Miscellaneous On top of our expenses due to events and activities, we also provide our members with shirts upon joining IEEE. Additionally, all officers have a casual button up shirt while committee chairs have polos. Both have IEEE-UH and their name embroidered into the shirt. IEEE-UH also owns a student lounge, which we are continuously improve to promote a better studying and social environment.
