G. T. S. B. E Executive Summary The Georgia Tech Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers serves the overall Georgia Tech community with a uniqueness that helps aid in the overall success of African-American students at Georgia Tech. Approximately 64% of the total Georgia Tech student population are engineering majors, of which approximately 6% are African-American with 68% being males, and 32% female. Out of these numbers, approximately 31% are members of GTSBE. Our chapter provides a multitude of opportunities ranging from weekly academic support, retention programs, community outreach, K-12 engagement, recruitment initiatives and professional development training that gives students the necessary exposure to be well-rounded and competitive students when they graduate from Georgia Tech, and even before the get to college. GTSBE has been an integral part in not only retaining African- American engineering students, but also with recruitment efforts to increase the number of African American engineering students at Georgia Tech, both on the undergraduate and graduate level. This year s National Directives are Academic and Technical Success and the National Initiative is Membership Integration. In addition to this, our chapter theme for this year is to Go G.O.L.D : Grow our Community and continue to develop our outreach initiatives at Georgia Tech and in Atlanta; Optimize our Skillset to develop our members aptitudes to far exceed the conventional resume tips; Leverage our Network by promoting collaborations and increasing our transparency; and Diversify our Membership to connect and cater to a greater student body. By striving to this GOLD Standard, we are encouraging and challenging our members to construct a greater foundation and understanding of their personal skillset and aptitudes in order to set limitless goals in all of their endeavors and make lasting impacts in our community. This year hopes to be a very promising one for GTSBE and we hope that you will continue to engage with our chapter as we continue to increase the number of culturally responsible Black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community. Siham Adous Chapter President [email protected]

G. T. S. B. E Dear Corporate Sponsor, The mission of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) is to increase the number of culturally responsible Black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community. The Georgia Tech Greetings, On behalf of the Georgia Tech Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (GTSBE), it gives me great pleasure to extend an invitation to you to form a partnership with our organization for the academic year. The mission of NSBE is to increase the number of culturally responsible Black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community. Our chapter continues to exemplify the qualities of this mission by striving to promote academic excellence, professional success, ethical responsibility, and community outreach. In order to promote these qualities in our members and the larger Georgia Tech community, our chapter seeks to develop meaningful programs and initiatives with the NSBE mission in mind. Through events and initiatives similar to the ones in this proposal, we have been able to make an impact within the entire society over the last decade, winning numerous national and regional titles including the Region 3 Distinguished Large Chapter of the Year. In the past, our partnerships with our corporate affiliates have been great, but this year we want to take it to the next level. Instead of just sponsorship, GTSBE is looking to create sustaining partnerships that will benefit both you and our organization longterm. Company information sessions have generally been the main event that our partners have with our organization, but this year our organization would like to go deeper and gain more insights on the corporate world through tech talks with engineers, technical interview workshops, professional development workshops, hackathons, and other interactive events. The events in this Corporate Partnership Proposal serve as a guideline to all that our organization is setting to accomplish this year, but is not the only way that you can get involved. GTSBE loves creative and interactive events with our corporate sponsors, so if there is an event that you would like to have with our organization that is not in this proposal, please reach out to us so we can work to arrange that. In addition to creative and innovative ideas to keep our general body members engaged, another initiative that we want to implement this year is mentorship. We have found that mentorship is one of the best ways to demonstrate how to reach the success we desire for the future. In regards to this, our organization is looking to partner with you to have engineers from your company be a mentor to one of our members and help them realize their dreams and aspirations. If your company is interested in our mentorship program, please reach out to me so we can talk more about the program and start pairing our students with your employees. In order to continue to have a strong impact as an organization, we rely heavily on the support of our Corporate Affiliates. This year, we will be centered on building strong, lasting partnerships with all of our affiliates. In order to build more mutually beneficial relationships, we are offering a set of Personalized Sponsorship Packages. Each of the packages allows our Corporate Affiliates substantial opportunities to network with and have an impact on our membership. The sponsorship packages also offer the opportunities for extensive corporate branding o maximize the return on investment. Please review our proposal carefully and feel free to contact myself with any additional questions or concerns you may have. Yours truly, Kyle Woumn GTSBE Finance Chair [email protected]

G. T. S. B. E GTSBE Students With 150+ registered members, GTSBE is an organization that works year round to provide students constant interaction with leading companies across the globe. We boast of the quality and demand of our members because they receive competitive full-time and part-time employment beginning freshman year at Georgia Tech and extending beyond graduation. Breakdown of Majors 1% 2% 8% 3% 4% 10% 5% 2% 7% 10% 7% 10% 7% 13% 8% 1% 1% 1% Computational Media Material Science Engineering Biology Environment Engineering Business Administration Architecture Computer Science Computer Engineering Aerospace Engineering Civil Engineering Economics Industrial Design Undecided Engineering Mechanical Engineering Electrical Engineering Biomedical Engineering Industrial Engineering Chemical Engineering Collaboration is Key This year, GTSBE plans on increasing our collaboration with other organizations at Georgia Tech and in the Atlanta area. We have started to work very closely with the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers and look forward to allowing them full access to company representatives during GTSBE s 3 rd Annual Corporate Networking Social and other professional events throughout the year. This is beneficial for our community because it allows a greater number of minorities to meet our sponsors while also increasing your return on investment. In addition to professional collaborations, this year s A March for Education is also designed to incorporate the talents of vendors, entrepreneurs, pre-collegiate and college students all across our region. This will allow our sponsors to not only access the brilliant engineers from various schools, but also partake in the community that GTSBE strives to inspire.

This will be a great way for students to build connections with the faculty who teach their classes and conduct the research they want to participate in. We want to bring in the new school year with a spirit of camaraderie and inclusiveness, lessening the often yawning divide between faculty and students who do not know one another or understand each other s agendas. The goal is to have ten faculty, ten GTSBE board members, and twenty-five general body members at this event. Date: September 15 th, 2015 Cost of Attendance per Company: $600 T-shirt Extravaganza As an organization, GTSBE feels it extremely important to have a means of visually branding ourselves and that s what we aim to do with T-Shirts. Our desire is to make a statement of unity and progress with our shirts this year. This t-shirt will be designed by an executive board member and will be distributed to all of the paid members. Additionally, we also are looking to provide customized polo shirts for the executive board so that we can distinguish ourselves when necessary, i.e. at NSBE Fall Regional conference and National Convention. The mixer would be an excellent opportunity for young alumni to continue their involvement with NSBE and to connect with successful professionals at companies they want to start building careers with. Date: October 2015 Total Estimated Cost: $750

G. T. S. B. 12 G. T. S. B. E Initiatives Positively Impact the Community A March for Education A March for Education is an event whose purpose is to promote and empower African Americans to value the importance of education at all ages. We will begin with an empowering march that will undoubtedly inspire all generations as we come to realize what can be achieved through uniting the resilience of our race with the limitless opportunities education can grant. The march will be followed by a keynote speaker, and expo to provide people of all ages with valuable information and resources to pursue their education further. Date: October 10, 2015 Total Estimated Cost: $2,420 A Walk for Education A Walk for Education is a yearly event to spread awareness of opportunities for higher education in predominately African American, low-income areas. We will go door to door handing out information to facilitate reaching higher education and speak about our experiences as STEM students. Date: October 3, 2015 Total Estimated Cost: $48 Pre-College Initiative Visitation Days GTSBE will be inviting middle school and high school students on campus to learn more about the opportunities that are available to them in the S.T.E.A.M. career field, especially at Georgia Tech. By piquing their interest, our goal is to increase the number of potential engineers for the future. By connecting these students and exposing them to the resources necessary to pursue these careers, we are hoping to positively impact the community around us. Fall Date: October 8, 2015 Spring Date: March 17, 2016 Total Estimated Cost: $604

G. T. S. B. E High School Visitation Liaison System Through the implementation of a liaison system we establish a communication line between the high school and university through the collegiate students. This is a voluntary role, however it enables stronger and more frequent communication between the high school and the university, while allowing for more frequent visits. The college students will need to be able to travel to the high schools by car or public transit, which would require compensation for gas or fare. Date: Year-round Program Total Estimated Cost: $710 Pre-College Initiative Retreat This is the kick-off event for the semester between GTSBE and its Pre-College Initiative (PCI) chapters. The purpose of this event would be to engage the students of the PCI chapters early and let them know the mission and goals of the GTSBE President. The visit will also inspire them to begin planning events that align with this same vision and are S.T.E.A.M. related. During the visit the PCI students will participate in workshops and learn the skills needed to create an effective event and spread awareness of careers in the S.T.E.A.M. field. Date: August 8, 2015 Total Estimated Cost: $335 Atlanta Public School Tutoring Program The tutoring program will focus on Atlanta Public School students in elementary school. Students often struggle with mathematics starting in elementary school. In order to combat student s early struggles in STEM subjects, we want to increase student's understanding of mathematics and science starting at the elementary school level. Our members will be expected to attend weekly so that they can form meaningful relationships with students, and the students will be able to see what they are capable of accomplishing. Date: Weekly Event Total Estimated Cost: $150 STEAM Expo The purpose of the STEAM Expo is to demonstrate how engineering and technology enhance the Arts, and to show the creativity and ingenuity required in ground-breaking technology. The event will feature a competition where Pre-College Initiative students will showcase projects focused on STEAM. Students of all ages will also get the opportunity to participate in workshops that demonstrate how the two areas are related. Date: March 12, 2016 Total Estimated Cost: $649.41

G. T. S. B. E Conventions/Conferences NSBE s 41 st Annual National Convention Total Expected Costs (per Person) $600 Location: Boston, Massachusetts Date: March 23-27, 2016 The National Society of Black Engineers hosts a 5-day national convention where over 10,000 attendees are expected representing college students, technical professionals, pre-college students, 300+ corporate exhibitors, and 40+ universities recruiting graduate and undergraduate students. Annual Fall Regional Conference FRC is a 3-day conference geared toward educating and empowering its attendees. It is designed to provide seminars, a career fair, workshops and competitions on engineering related topics and college survival skills to empower collegiate members professionally, academically, and personally.
