The Society of Women in Business at Georgia Institute of Technology Our Organization The Society of Women in Business is an undergraduate student organization founded to provide opportunities for interaction between its 60 members and the professional community. We serve as a source of information pertaining to women in business, and support undergraduate women in their efforts to pursue higher levels of educational and professional achievement. In the spring of 2004, Melissa McAvoy started SWiB with the help of our faculty advisor, Dr. Debby Turner, in order to bring women at Georgia Tech together and to celebrate the accomplishments of our professional forerunners. We regularly host speakers who discuss a variety of topics, including highlights of their companies and their professional experiences, trends of women in the workplace, resume writing workshops, interviewing skills, among others. Speakers share valuable knowledge regarding methods of finding and securing jobs after graduation, working in a male-dominated workplace, and achieving corporate success. Dinner is provided at each meeting, and networking opportunities are provided. SWiB is also involved in various service projects here at Georgia Tech and throughout Atlanta. We want to contribute to the community and give back to our supporters. Mission Statement It is our mission as Society of Women in Business to foster the empowerment of women in the workplace through establishment of corporate connections and escalation of business knowledge. As a powerful networking organization, SWiB has given its members the confidence and tools needed for them to succeed in an everchanging and competitive business world. Our organization allows women to achieve their goals, think strategically, and emerge into the capable leaders who will flourish in all of their future endeavors, whatever they may be. We are a unique and intelligent 4
group of women of Georgia Tech, and are ready to excel in all that we do, both professionally and personally. Sponsor Information This Sponsor Handbook is intended to give companies an overview of available types of donations to our organization, encouraging them to contribute. This booklet should serve as a general guide for corporate representatives in choosing the best way to market their company to our members and the Georgia Tech community. In the following pages you will learn more about our organization, why your company should donate to SWiB, and the different types and levels of sponsorships available to you. Please send any forms to Evie Owens, our Executive Vice President. If you have any questions please refer to the contact information found on this page. For other information about our organization and our activities, you may visit our website: We appreciate your generosity. Our organization heavily relies upon corporate sponsorships to fund our meetings, membership benefits, and other activities. Thank you. Evie Owens Executive Vice President eowens96@gatech.edu
Our Goals for Increase Member Benefits With the help of our generous sponsors, SWiB has established a strong foundation on Georgia Tech s campus. We seek to continually expand our membership as well as our benefits for our members and sponsors. We hope to establish funds to provide our members with more networking opportunities as well as give money towards a philanthropic organization. Give back to our Sponsors As a result of our higher caliber members, the publicity SWiB can offer our sponsors will be invaluable. Our sponsors will be given the opportunity to interact on a personal level with our members, either through coming in to speak at one of our meetings, hosting an etiquette dinner, or scheduling a tour of a sponsor s office. Sponsors will be promoted within the organization and throughout the campus through our advertising resources. Sponsors will be given the opportunity to speak at our meetings on a rolling basis, with higher level sponsors being given first priority for selecting from one of our meeting dates and so on. Our goal is to provide various benefits to our sponsors in order to give back to them just as much as they have given to us. Philanthropy In previous years, we have taken part in a number of service projects, such as packaging food with Project Open Hand, giving back to Tech s campus through cleanup and landscaping on Tech Beautification Day, and collecting items to donate to children with disabilities through FOCUS Georgia. We are excited to participate in several other projects this year as an organization, both on Georgia Tech s campus and across Atlanta. Promote Industrial Diversity within SWiB and Sponsors As an organization that is committed to the empowerment of women in the workplace, we realize that business principles are crucial for a lot of different majors, and not just business majors. We are seeking to attract a more diverse group of 6
majors, including Industrial Engineering and Computer Science candidates to broaden our interaction across disciplines and emulate the real-world environment of cross functional teams to address business issues. In order to meet the growing interests of our members in different industries of business, we also want to diversify the companies that come in and speak to SWiB, so that members can truly pursue their professional goals and passions. Sponsor Benefits With our growing organization, sponsors will have the opportunity to be involved and firmly establish themselves amongst what will be a large body of potential employees. Recruitment Opportunities We offer our sponsors the opportunity to meet approximately 60 Georgia Tech women in a more intimate setting than what campus information sessions can offer. The first 15 minutes of speaker presentations are reserved for sharing information about your company. Additionally, any information provided or job posts mentioned will be sent out to the SWiB mailing list. You will also be provided a Resume Book, filled with the resumes of all our members. Publicity and Advertising Sponsor logos will be displayed on the SWiB website and will be included on all SWiB banners and posters. We use these promotional tools when participating in club fairs, recruitment opportunities, and events. Public Image Contributing to SWiB provides a branding opportunity for your company as it portrays initiative in supporting female students as they prepare for and enter the workforce. Tax Deductibility Because we are a not-for-profit organization, all donations may be tax deductible. You will receive tax forms upon your decision to support SWiB. 7

How We Use Sponsorships Meetings SWiB holds many meetings and socials during the fall and spring semesters. Five hour long meetings each semester will feature a speaker from a company or from the Georgia Tech community. Speakers begin with a 15 minute informational session about their company. The next 40 minutes will be on a topic that will help guide the SWiB members on how to become successful women in the workplace. If the speaker so desires, our Executive Vice President will guide him/her in choosing a topic for discussion. Our meetings are designed to teach valuable lessons on achieving professional and personal success. We want to enrich the college experience for SWiB participants. Dinner is served at all meetings. Activities Other activities we wish to pursue this year include attendance at the Women s Leadership Conference at Georgia Tech and at the Dynamic Women in Business Conference at Harvard University. We will host end-of-semester banquets in both the fall and spring. Furthermore, we hope to promote camaraderie and networking within our organization by hosting social activities and service projects. Supplies SWiB uses a wide range of supplies in our organization s operations. We utilize basic office supplies to make our semester newsletter, meeting agendas, and recruitment fliers and banners. We also require food supplies such as plates, cups, napkins, plastic ware, and tablecloths. Member Benefits Our current member benefits include opportunities for networking, professional development workshops, professional photography event and inclusion in the SWiB resume database. Additionally, we provide rewards for involvement in SWiB-related activities in order to promote the organization and its goals. With the help of our sponsors, we would like to increase benefits to increase personalized scholarships. Other Sponsorship Any donation is appreciated as a contribution to our growing organization. 9
Other Opportunities Scholarships In a rapidly growing organization, our main goal is to benefit our members in their academic and professional careers. We hope to build a scholarship system funded by corporate donations. In the past, Geico has donated two achievement awards for our members. Sponsors will be able to form requirements or selection guidelines as they wish. Our sponsor and executive board can lead the selection process together, or company representatives can choose the scholarship recipient. Typical scholarship amounts are $500, $1000 or $2500. This would be an invaluable gift to our members. We are interested in creating named scholarship awards for corporations interested in maintaining an on-going scholarship Date: Specified by Sponsor Amount: Specified by Sponsor 10
Thank You We are tremendously grateful to you and your company. Thank you for enabling the Society of Women in Business to serve our members and our community. Our hope is that through your generous contributions, we will be able to continue helping Georgia Tech women be successful during and after their college careers. We hope that organizations like ours will encourage more women to attend our university and gain advantages in the workplace. Once again, thank you for your generosity. We look forward to working with your company in the future. Appreciatively, Society of Women in Business at Georgia Tech 11
