Rampart High School Newsletter 8250 Lexington Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80920 Pete Alvarez, Principal (719) 234-2000 November 2015 I would like to thank all of the athletes, coaches, volunteers, and fans who came out to support our fall sports programs. The quality of our program is built on our positive community spirit and support for Rampart Athletics. The fall athletic season has been a good one for the Rams. In boys tennis, Brandon Bloom finished second in the regional moving on to the state tournament in #3 singles. As a team, the boys finished 3 rd overall in their region. The boys and girls cross country teams both qualified for the state championship run on October 31 st. The boys won the 5A Colorado Metro League Championship the week prior to finishing 2 nd at regionals. The girls had come into regional race ranked as the 7 th place team but were able to run very well finishing 4 th. Both teams will be looking forward to some of their best performances of the year at state. The volleyball team continues to improve and although they are a very young squad they were able to grab a share of the 5A Colorado Metro League Championship by defeating Pine Creek in their last league match. Rampart s boys soccer continues their impressive season by hosting and winning their first playoff game in several years. The Rams finished the regular season with an impressive 13-1-1 mark and are hoping for a deep run in the playoffs. The Ram Football team continues to work hard and get better every season. The Rampart Drama department, under the direction of Amy Rowles, will perform A Spare Me on November 6 th and 7 th at 7:00 p.m. This month we have a variety of events happening at Rampart. We will hold our Veteran s Day assembly on Wednesday, November 11 th. We will start our day with a short assembly followed by a variety of activities happening in classes during the day. Our annual Holiday Craft Bazaar will be held Saturday, November 21 st from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. We only have six weeks left in the first semester. Please take the time to monitor your student s grades as we enter this crucial time. On behalf of the entire staff at Rampart High School, we would like to wish a Happy Thanksgiving to all of our students and their families. It is a time we hope you fill with the riches of family, food, warmth, and treasured moments together. Sincerely, Pete Alvarez THE MISSION OF RAMPART HIGH SCHOOL Rampart High School, an inclusive learning community dedicated to excellence and growth, prepares and empowers students to be leaders through the exploration of and engagement in rigorous and innovative educational and extra-curricular experiences that cultivate character in a respectful and safe environment.. At the Colorado Student Media Association s Journalism Day conference and state competition, both KRAM and Yearbook did very well. Over 1300 students from 100 different schools attended. Yearbook received an Award of Commendation in the All-Colorado Rating and Critique, and KRAM received an All-Colorado Rating in the same critique (this is the highest award a student journalism program can achieve in Colorado). Congratulations to the KRAM students, because this is the first time that any video media has earned the All- Colorado award except for D20TV since the competition s inception 6 years ago. KRAM also received 2 nd place in the Best of Show competition this year. Prom is one of the biggest, most memorable evenings of the year for our students. It can also be one of the most dangerous and regrettable. Statistics indicate that on a typical Prom weekend: 48 American teenagers are killed in vehicles 5,202 are injured 40% of the deaths are alcohol-related (Source: U.S. Dept. of Transportation National Highway Traffic Safety Administration 2005) After Prom is an event that our students look forward to and have enjoyed immensely for the past 19 years. Last year over 550 Rampart students attended this event at The Brunswick Zone. You have the power to make a positive impact on the lives of Rampart High School students.
