17 HHS Academic Team Play along with game shows? Like trivia? Then we re the club for you!

18 HHS Academic Team We hold weekly practices. We have snacks. Our questions cover all sorts of topics- both academic (history, science, etc.) and pop culture (movies, music, sports). We compete as four-person teams. Our tournaments are hosted by VCU and UVA on Saturdays during the school year. We also compete in a VHSL tournament. We typically attend about 4 tournaments per school year.

20 KEY CLUB The Key Club is the oldest and largest organization for high school students. It is a student-led organization that teaches about leadership through community service. The local Ashland Kiwanis club sponsors the Hanover High club and communicates frequently with our members about service projects in the community. Some examples of the types of projects we participate in are: *HHS tutoring, Ashland Holiday Parade, UNICEF collection, School blood drive, Adopt a Soldier program, Mechanicsville bowl-a-thon, Atlee Little League concession stand, SPCA drive, Clothing/Coat drive, Henry Clay Elementary Roots and Shoots (gardening), Ashland Train Day, etc. Sponsors: Mr. Long and Mrs. Hall First meeting: Tuesday, September 9th at 3:30pm in room 2304

21 Tell-A-Peer Peer Mediation is a program that allows students to help their peers with specific academic and social issues before they are referred to school administrators. A successful program positively affects the school by assisting students in solving minor conflicts. In order to be a peer mediator, students must fill out an application, obtain letters of recommendation from teachers and sit in an interview in the spring. If you are interested in becoming a mediator, please see Mr. Mercer, Mr. Connolly or Mrs. Hall.

Fundraising projects benefit the community. Speaker Series brings innovators and creative leaders from the larger community. Juniors & Seniors who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character, are invited to apply for membership in NHS. NHS Tutoring Center offers free inschool tutoring in all subjects and in SOL prep & remediation. NHS is student-led under the guidance of faculty advisors.
