Payment Action! is not a profit making venture, but we do need to cover our costs in order to pay our providers. We invite a for our sixth form led activities to help us cover administrative costs. Once the places have been allocated, the charge will be added to your ParentPay account. It is important that if a student signs up for an activity run by an external provider that you commit to pay by the payment deadline (given on ParentPay). Payment must be received before your daughter starts the course. In cases of hardship or where families are in receipt of Income Support or Family Credit, assistance is available from the school. Application forms for the Pitchford Fund can be downloaded from the school website. All applications will be dealt with by the Head Teacher in the strictest confidence. Refunds cannot be offered unless an activity is cancelled by the provider. We do not offer a refund if a student misses a week. Once a student has signed up and paid, attendance at that activity is compulsory. We endeavour to run activities every week but activities occasionally have to be cancelled due to bad weather or unforeseen circumstances. Attendance Once your daughter has been allocated a place, then attendance is compulsory and you will be notified of any absence. If your daughter has a medical appointment or another reason for missing Action!, she is of course permitted to miss Action! but we do require confirmation from a parent. Photographs Your consent to the use of photographs of your daughter taking part in the Action! activity is assumed unless you have expressly withdrawn consent for your daughter to be photographed. Medical conditions If your daughter has any medical conditions relevant to the activity that the school is not already aware of then you must let us know in advance. Please note that we will pass your daughter s medical and emergency contact details to providers where necessary, to be treated in the utmost confidence. Going Home Please ensure that you complete the permissions section of the application form on the website to indicate: You give permission for your daughter to attend the chosen Action! activity and to participate in all activities mentioned in the course description If an activity is cancelled / sixth form activity not running, do you give permission for your daughter to leave school at 2.40pm? If you do not give permission, we will make provision for unsupervised independent study in the LOGIC from 2.40pm 3.40pm which will be compulsory for your daughter to attend. Students may not stay in school in other unsupervised areas. You give permission for your daughter to walk unsupervised to a local off-site activity and make her own way home (if applicable)
In the event of an emergency, you give permission for persons supervising the activity to authorise any medical or dental treatment for your daughter that is deemed necessary by a qualified medical practitioner. We encourage ALL students to participate in an Action! activity every term. However if your daughter does not sign up for an Action! activity then she will be required to leave school PROMPTLY at 2.40pm for fire regulations and health and safety reasons. If you would prefer your daughter to stay in School until 3.40pm then please enrol her in an Action! activity.

Activity Listings Terms 1 & 2 Sporting activities: Activity: Description Cost per term Badminton Badminton is a fun sport that is suitable for any level, from beginners to experienced players, as it is easy to pick up the basics and enjoy it from the start. It is great exercise that is fast-paced, challenging but also really enjoyable. Come along to try this Olympic sport led by a professional badminton coach to discover why over 500,000 people play every week in England! A chance to try the sport of Curling, run by coaches from Kent & Sussex Junior Curling Club. This is a great chance to try this fun sport. Term 2 only 12 Curling (OFF-SITE) Fitness Bootcamp Fitness Studio classes (OFF-SITE) We are hoping to secure Sportivate funding for this activity which would reduce the cost to around 5 per term, however this will not be confirmed until July. Please select the appropriate online option to indicate whether your daughter would like to participate in curling either only with Sportivate funding or with or without Sportivate funding. We will travel by school minibus, leaving school at 2.10pm to travel to Fenton s Ice Rink in Tunbridge Wells, returning to school at approximately 3.45pm The popular fitness activity of high intensity interval training is proving really popular at TGS. The exercises are bootcamp style but the atmosphere is friendly, supportive and suitable for all levels of fitness. Come along to Fitness Bootcamp to improve fitness and strength and have fun. Students will participate in a variety of studio fitness classes at Peak Fitness Gym in Tonbridge such as body combat, circuits, fit-balls, bootcamp and fitness yoga. Street Dancing Strictly Come Dancing! Table Tennis Yoga Our street dance classes are fun, sociable, great exercise and ideal for beginners and experienced dancers alike. Street dancing is full of moves and twists that will impress your friends. Come along to learn this popular form of dancing with this fusion class of funky street dancing and disco run by Dynamic Dance School. Want to be the next star of Strictly? Come along to this activity to learn Ballroom and Latin dancing. We will cover the basic steps to classic dances like the Waltz, the Jive, the Rumba and the Foxtrot! Table tennis is a fun and beginner-friendly sport all you need is enthusiasm! This course will cover the rules, techniques and playing styles with lots of practice and fun games. A professional yoga instructor leads this general introduction to yoga incorporating postures, stretches and relaxation. Interests / hobbies: Activity: Description Cost per term Amazing Animal Encounters Bridge A hands-on activity for animal lovers run by Amazing Animal Encounters. This course will give you practical experience of animal care such as grooming, handling, health and exercising. Students will also learn about the origins, behaviour and characteristics of the animals which may include guinea pigs, rabbits, chickens, hedgehogs and reptiles (at TGS); and farm animals and English wildlife (one off-site visit). We advise students with animal allergies not to sign up to this course. Many of you may not have heard of Bridge, the King of card games, let alone know that it is on the National Curriculum in China and that it helps develop problem solving and logic skills. However all you really need to know is that it s an absorbing and fun game, and that mini-bridge is so easy to learn that you ll be playing within 20 minutes of the first session. T1-23 T2-27 T1 & T2 Calming Therapies Chess Chocolate Making (OFF-SITE) NEW! Circus Skills Come along to find out what millions of players around the world (including our very own Mr Apps!) love about the wonderful game of Bridge. This activity will be led by the West Kent Bridge Association. A chance to have a go at Indian Head Massage, reflexology, relaxing meditation and mixing essential oils. This activity is run by a local complimentary therapist. A fun and informal club, suitable for beginners to learn how to play chess, and also for improvers to learn more advanced techniques and strategies. If you love chocolate then try this activity, with the chance to taste and make chocolates to take home (if they make it that far!). Pour and mould chocolate and decorate a variety of delicious treats under the expert tuition of experienced chocolatiers in a real chocolate factory. If so, then come along to this activity where you ll learn creative writing skills, including creating characters, plots and settings. Enjoy a range of fun board games to have fun and win prizes, as well as Xbox/Wii tournaments. A friendly club for a relaxed hour of fun. Are your photos blurry or a bit disappointing? Would you like to learn how to take better photos? Then why not try this activity, run by a professional photographer. Each week will have a different focus, such as portraits, documentary/advertising, still life and landscape scenes. Students will need to bring along their own device to take photos, such as smart phone, ipad or digital camera. An introduction to psychology that will help you understand what makes people tick. Life Skills / languages: Activity: Description Cost per term First Aid Cookery Self defence Chinese Mandarin A great opportunity to learn emergency first aid skills. Students will learn first aid procedures for a variety of conditions and situations, including unconsciousness, non-breathing casualties, bleeding, burns, heart attacks, muscle and bone injuries. All students are encouraged to participate in this activity for one term. This course, run by professionals from Cookies Kitchen, will teach a variety of cooking skills. Students will learn to create fun and tasty recipes such as biscuits, cakes, Chinese food and pasta. An opportunity to learn basic practical self-defence techniques. This course will also raise awareness of self-defence principles and avoidance of potentially harmful situations. All students are encouraged to participate in this activity for one term. This course is an introduction to the Chinese mandarin language - students will learn basic vocabulary to enable them to speak in sentences. A creative course in which students will design and make colourful beads and attractive objects such as photo/tea light holders and key rings in fun shapes and colours. Run by a professional makeup artist. Join Glass Painting run by a professional artist and learn this intricate and beautiful art. Students will learn glass painting techniques and use these to design and paint a variety of glass objects such as a frame, tea-light and plate. A pottery painting course that teaches various methods of applying paint and paint effects to pottery such as mugs, clocks and plates. Students really enjoy this creative course in which they can design their own colourful pottery which is then glazed by Glazy Daisy, ready to be taken home. Making your own soap is fun, creative and fulfilling, and is lovely to use at home. Homemade soap in fun shapes is a luxurious treat, or a special, thoughtful gift for friends and family.
