Mechanical Overview 1 April 2015 Dervan Engineering Consultants 4

Chillers and Pumps Chillers 3 No. chillers (N+1) are each rated at 721 kw at 15/21ºC flow and return, 30% glycol and 30ºC ambient. - Climaveneta All three chillers run in part load to achieve the maximum level of free cooling. The chillers have free cooling coils and the estimated percentage operation on free versus compressor cooling is as follows: Compressor cooling only @ T > 16 ºC 7% Compressor & free cooling @ 7 ºC < T <16 ºC 53% Free cooling only @ T < 7 ºC 40% The chillers have integral primary pumps with variable speed drives which will control the flow rate in the primary loop in accordance with the demand in the secondary loop. Secondary Pumps Two sets of duty standby secondary variable speed pumps are provided - Wilo Each pump set is located in its own pump room along with the associated pump headers, pressurization / auto fill unit. 1 April 2015 Dervan Engineering Consultants 5

Pipework and Ancillaries Primary Pipework The three chillers are connected to primary flow and return looped headers with isolation valves between each chiller connection to facilitate total isolation of any chiller and still allow the other two chillers to function normally. The primary and secondary circuits are connected by two separate paths to allow the system to continue to function in the event of a component or path failure. Primary Buffer Vessels The two primary by pass lines are each fitted with a 1000L buffer vessel. These provide a minimum level of water in the primary loop to reduce the frequency of chiller starts. 1 April 2015 Dervan Engineering Consultants 6

Pipework and Ancillaries Secondary Buffer Vessels A 1000L buffer vessel is located on each of the two flow paths to the data hall. These act as thermal store for chilled water retention in the event of the chiller plant shutting down during a mains failure period. Secondary Loop in the Data Hall The chilled water is distributed around the data hall in the form of a loop in the floor void below the cold aisle with tap offs for each row of IRC. Isolation valves are located around the entire loop such as no more than one IRC in any pod would be out of service if a section of pipe had to be isolated. 1 April 2015 Dervan Engineering Consultants 7

In-Row Coolers In- Row Coolers (IRCs) IRCs are supplied as part of the rack and pod system. Each IRC is complete with its own control system and motorized 3 port modulating valve. The IRC s in each Pod provide N+1 redundancy They are also complete with Modbus interface for communicating with the BEMS. Cooling is designed precisely to match the equipment loads. Capacity grows to meet demand Large volume in room acts as a cold air reservoir 1 April 2015 Dervan Engineering Consultants 8
