ORLANDO BALLET S 2015/2016 4-SHOW SEASON GISELLE October 30 - November 1 The epitome of romantic ballet, a tale of broken hearts, lost love, remorse and forgiveness perfectly fuses music, movement and drama. Featuring live music by the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orlando Ballet dancers bring Giselle s mystery and ethereal beauty vividly to life. THE FIREBIRD & TO FAMILIAR SPACES IN DREAM Guest Choreographer Jessica Lang February 5-7 A unique mixed bill featuring a Robert Hill world premiere, The Firebird is an epic fairy tale ballet and orchestral concert work by composer Igor Stravinsky, featuring the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra. The ballet is based on Russian folk tales of a magical glowing bird that can be both a blessing and a curse to its owner. A must see with breathtaking virtuoso dancing and music from a 20th-century genius. To Familiar Spaces in Dream is an original work by 2014 Bessie Award winner and Manchester Theatre Award nominee Jessica Lang with music by Philip Glass, John Cage, and Craig Armstrong. This contemporary performance includes a striking set of eight white columns representing the white keys on the piano. Lang s choreography builds a deepening emotional current that, by the end, appears to engulf dancers and stage alike. DON QUIXOTE March 18-20 Staged by American Ballet Theatre s Ballet Mistress Susan Jones, inspired by Marius Petipa, this touring production of Don Quixote is based on Miguel de Cervantes sweeping tale of romance and chivalry. The knight-errant of la Mancha, Don Quixote, and his devoted squire, Sancho Panza, are positively heroic when it comes to aiding the spirited maiden Kitri and her charming armour. The stage explodes with one show-stopping performance after another in this feast of choreographic fireworks. With music by Leon Minkus, featuring the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra. BEAUTY & THE BEAST April 29 - May 1 The world premiere of Arcadian Broad s full staging of Beauty & the Beast is the tale of loving inner beauty with artistic choreography that shares the story with the audience. From the Beast s imposing castle to the enchanted forest, it vividly illustrates the transformative power of love through striking set design, inventive choreography and a cast of fanciful characters. Be ready for magical transformations, wild waltzes, and a relationship between Belle and the Beast that is at first terrifying, but ultimately serene and beautiful. Original music composed by Arcadian Broad accompanied by Central Florida Community Arts. THE NUTCRACKER* December 17-20 This holiday favorite returns by popular demand as a season option. A Christmas Eve gift of a toy nutcracker from her godfather transports Clara on a magical journey to a world of fantasy and fun complete with the Mouse King, Sugar Plum Fairy, and Mother Ginger. This enchanting production takes the stage for the second year at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts with accompaniment by the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra. *Subscriber Option. Additional Purchase Required.
