5 ABOUT OUR PROGRAM AND ENSEMBLE MDC KENDALL CAMPUS DANCE PROGRAM The Dance pathway is a component of the Department of Music, Theater, and Dance within the Academic Affairs Division of Miami Dade College. This fine arts entity seeks to train young talented dance students who seek careers in professional dance related fields. This area of concentrated study emphasizes traditional values and formal discipline in its training process. The varied backgrounds and expertise of our highly qualified faculty allow the students to experience a variety of dance forms from classical, African Diasporic movement forms, ballet to post-modern dance. Various performance opportunities further develop the student s training, technique, and experience. Each year dance students enjoy the opportunities to perform in selected entertainment venues, master classes and workshops with dance professionals from around the world. MDC KCDP is the sponsor of the "Leaps and Bounds Artist-in Resident Program." "Leaps and Bounds is an Artist-in-Resident Program" that is an essential aspect of growth and development for the student body as well as the participating artist. Guest Artist provides diverse perspectives of knowledge, culture and processes for the students of Miami Dade College. At the same time, Leaps and Bounds provides professional choreographers space, place, time and bodies to investigate, evaluate and produce concepts theories and practices through the arts. The Leaps and Bounds Artist-in- Resident Program takes place during the months of October, November & December. A project of this magnitude enhances community support and provides professional development. In addition, students receive first- hand knowledge and skills about the importance of cultural literacy through the art of dance. Students also explore the benefits of collaborative work ethic. The residency is open to community participation which stimulates educational outreach and encourages civic engagement. MDC JUBILATION DANCE ENSEMBLE MDC JDE is a diverse dance company that performs various genres of dance. The mission of MDC JDE is to preserve, enhance and inspire emerging dance artists. MDC JDE performs at MDC, throughout the community, participates in master classes, dance festivals, conferences and various academic events throughout the community. Audition is required.
