Yu cannt have tw antivirus r firewall prducts frm different vendrs installed n yur cmputer. autmatically detects and remves mst cmmn antivirus and firewall prducts during the installatin. Yu can als manually remve any ther antivirus r firewall prducts befre installing the prduct. Are tw antivirus prgrams better than ne? N. It is best t have ne gd antivirus prgram. An antivirus prgram needs t pen a file t scan it fr malware. If anther antivirus prgram is trying t pen the same file at the same time, it has t wait fr the file t becme free. This may cause prblems. Fr example, prgrams may nt start crrectly, r the whle system crashes. Is cmpatible with Windws XP SP2 r SP3 Security Center and the internal firewall f the perating system? Yes, it is cmpatible. Hwever, yu cannt use tw sftware firewalls n the same cmputer simultaneusly. When yu install the prduct, the internal firewall f Windws XP is autmatically turned ff. 6 / 48

Hw d I knw if my cmputer has a 32-bit r a 64-bit versin f Windws XP? There are several ways t find ut the versin f yur Windws XP: 1. Open My Cmputer t check system prperties: a. Click Start > My Cmputer. b. Right-click with yur muse and select Prperties. The System Prperties windw pens. c. Click the General tab and check the first line under Cmputer: In 64-bit XP, Itanium r Itanium 2 is shwn. In 32-bit XP, sme ther value is shwn. 2. Open the Winmsd.exe tl t check the system type r prcessr: a. Click Start > Run. b. Type winmsd.exe in the Open field, and click OK. c. D either f the fllwing: Lcate System Type in the right pane under Item. Check the value: In 64-bit XP, the value is Itanium-based system. In 32-bit XP, the value is X86-based PC. Hw d I remve cnflicting security prgrams manually? During the installatin, the prgram tries t remve cnflicting security prgrams, such as ther antivirus r firewall prgrams, autmatically. If they cannt be remved, yu will be asked t remve the prgrams manually thrugh Windws Cntrl Panel. 1. T remve a prgram: a. In Windws XP, click Start. b. Click Cntrl Panel. c. Duble-click Add r Remve Prgrams. d. Select the prgram and click Remve. e. In Windws Vista, click the Start buttn. f. Click Cntrl Panel. g. Click Prgrams. h. Click Prgrams and Features. i. Repeat the steps abve t remve all f them. 3. Restart yur cmputer. Installatin Why is the first installatin package s large? The first package dwnlads a lt f files frm the Internet, fr example all the virus definitins. The next updates are significantly smaller. Hw d I install? T install the prduct, yu need the fllwing: The prduct CD r a dwnladed versin f the prduct. A valid prduct subscriptin key. An Internet cnnectin. Nte: If yu have mre than ne user accunt, yu have t lg in as an administratr befre the installatin. When yu start the installatin, yu can select hw yu want t install the prduct n yur cmputer. Yu can use either autmatic installatin r step-by-step installatin. If yu select the autmatic installatin, the prduct is installed autmatically. If yu select the step-by-step installatin, yu are asked t make selectins during the installatin. 10 / 48

11 This prduct cannt be installed n a cmputer that uses ther antivirus r firewall prducts. Many cmmn antivirus prducts will be remved autmatically during the installatin. 1. T install the dwnladed prduct step by step: a. When yu purchase the prduct nline, yu receive an message, which cntains the dwnlad and installatin instructins, and yur unique prduct subscriptin key. b. Fllw the instructins and dwnlad the sftware package t yur cmputer. c. Duble-click the package icn t run the installatin wizard and fllw the instructins n yur screen. d. When asked, enter yu subscriptin key (xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx). 2. T install the prduct frm the CD: a. When yu insert the CD, the installatin shuld launch autmatically. If it des nt, brwse t the rt flder f the CD and duble-click autrun.exe r installer (.exe) file t start the installatin. b. Fllw the instructins in the installatin wizard. c. When asked, enter yur subscriptin key (xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx). Yur subscriptin key is printed n the back cver f the user guide included with the prduct CD. The prduct is dwnlading updates after installatin. That did nt happen in the previus prduct versin. Why has this changed? The prduct has always updated the virus definitin databases after installatin t prtect yur cmputer against the latest threats. The nly difference is that nw yu can see hw the dwnlading prceeds. Can I install n tp f an evaluatin versin? Yes. If yu are using an evaluatin versin f the prduct, yu can upgrade t a full cmmercial versin. Yu can d this as fllws: 11 / 48

12 1. T pen the prduct, duble-click the prduct icn at the bttm right crner f yur screen. 2. On the main page, click Tasks. 3. Click My subscriptin. 4. If yu have nt yet purchased a full prduct versin frm a reseller, select Buy nline. This pens a web site where yu can buy a full prduct versin. Fllw the instructins n that page. 5. When yu have the subscriptin key fr the full prduct versin, click My subscriptin. 6. Select Enter new subscriptin key. 7. In the dialg bx that pens, enter yur new subscriptin key and click Register. Tip: If yu received yur subscriptin key by , yu can cpy the key frm the message and paste it int the field. If yu wuld like t upgrade yur current versin t a versin with ther r additinal features, yu need t purchase a new prduct subscriptin with a new subscriptin key. I installed r upgraded but cannt see the prduct icn n the system tray. What shuld I d? Yu can try the fllwing: 1. Check that the icns are nt hidden in yur perating system: a. In Windws XP r Vista: click the Shw hidden icns icn t shw the system tray icns. b. In Windws 7: click the caret t shw the system tray icns. 2. Open Task Manager. Check that the fsm32 prcess is visible. 3. If the prcess is visible, use the Supprt Tl fr generating an fsdiag file. Send the file t ur technical supprt. 4. 13 After installing, I have n access t the Internet r my . What can I d? Yu may have denied yur web brwser's netwrk cnnectins. T pen the prduct, duble-click the prduct icn at the bttm right crner f yur screen. T check that the netwrk cnnectins are allwed fr yur brwser: 1. On the main page, click Settings. 2. Select Netwrk cnnectins > Applicatin cntrl. 3. Click the Applicatins tab. Yu can view a list f denied r allwed applicatins. 4. Lcate the brwser that yu are using. Fr example, if yu use Internet Explrer, lcate iexplre.exe. 5. Check that the cnnectins are allwed fr yur brwser. Hw d I uninstall? 1. T uninstall the prduct, d the fllwing: a. In Windws XP, click Start. b. Click Cntrl Panel. c. Duble-click Add r Remve Prgrams. d. Select and click Remve. e. In Windws Vista, click the Start buttn. f. Click Cntrl Panel. g. Click Prgrams. h. Can I give a cpy f the sftware t a friend? N, the license is meant fr persnal use. I frmatted my hard drive. D I need t register again? N, yu d nt need t register yur prduct again. If yu still have yur prduct subscriptin key (xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx), yu can reinstall the prduct and use the same key. Can I install the prduct n several cmputers? Yu receive a subscriptin key with yur prduct. Yu can install the prduct with the same subscriptin key n [x] cmputers. 14 / 48

15 I have already installed the prduct and registered the subscriptin. Hw can I transfer the subscriptin t anther cmputer? If yur subscriptin allws nly ne installatin, yu can transfer the subscriptin t anther cmputer. T d this, install by using the same subscriptin key. The subscriptin is transferred t the new cmputer, and the ld installatin stps wrking. If yu have prblems transferring the subscriptin, d the fllwing: 1. Uninstall the prduct frm bth cmputers: a. Click Start. b. Select Cntrl Panel > Add/Remve Prgrams. 2. D the fllwing n the cmputer t which yu want t transfer the subscriptin: a. Restart the cmputer t which yu want t transfer the subscriptin. b. Delete the prduct flder in the installatin directry. c. Reinstall the prduct. d. After yu have entered yur subscriptin key and registered it, a message infrms yu that the subscriptin is already registered t anther cmputer. Click Next. The prduct will be registered t yur new cmputer. Hw can I register a full versin f the n tp f an evaluatin versin? T register yur subscriptin in an evaluatin prduct, d the fllwing: 1. Cnnect yur cmputer t the Internet. 2. T pen the prduct, duble-click the prduct icn at the bttm right crner f yur screen. 3. On the main page, click Tasks. 4. Click My subscriptin. 5. 16 Tip: If yu received yur subscriptin key by , yu can cpy the key frm the message and paste it int the field. After registratin, the full subscriptin is activated and in use. General use Why was the user interface changed? The user interface was changed because we wanted t imprve the usability f the prduct. The ld user interface was nt designed t supprt the amunt f features that the prduct currently has. Viruses The secnd full scan f the cmputer was quite fast. Did the prduct really scan my whle cmputer? The prduct detects which files were scanned and checks if they have changed since the last scan. If they have nt changed, they are nt scanned again. The same applies t archives. This may mean that a different number f files are scanned each time yu scan yur cmputer, and therefre, the scanning time may vary. Shuld I manually scan my hard disks daily? N, this is nt necessary. Virus and spyware scanning includes real-time scanning, which means that yur cmputer is scanned fr viruses in real time. Yu can scan manually fr viruses by using scheduled scanning. T pen the prduct, duble-click the prduct icn at the bttm right crner f yur screen. T start a scheduled scan: 16 / 48

17 1. On the main page, click Settings. 2. Select Cmputer > Scheduled scanning. 3. Select Turn n scheduled scanning. 4. Select which days yu wuld like t regularly scan fr viruses and spyware. Optin Descriptin Daily T scan every day. Weekly T scan n selected days during the week. Select n which days t scan frm the list t the right. Mnthly T scan n up t three days a mnth. T select which days: a. Select ne f the Day ptins. b. Select the day f the mnth frm the list next t the selected day. c. Repeat if yu want t scan n anther day. 5. Select when yu want t start the scan n the selected days. Optin Descriptin Start time The time when the scan will start. Yu shuld select a time when yu expect t nt be using the cmputer. If the virus definitins are nt autmatically updated, yu can d the fllwing: 1. Check that yur cmputer is cnnected t the Internet. 2. Check whether the time and date f the cmputer are crrect. If they are wrng, updates may nt be installed. 3. Check fr updates manually. T d this, pen the user interface f the prduct: a. In Windws XP and Vista, duble-click the prduct icn in the bttm right hand crner f yur screen. b. In Windws 7, click the caret and then click the prduct icn. c. On the main page, click Check fr updates. 4. Check that autmatic updates are n: a. On the main page, click Settings. b. Select Other settings > Autmatic updates. 5. Make sure that yur subscriptin is valid. 6. If yu still d nt receive updates, run the Supprt tl. Send the file it creates t ur technical supprt with an explanatin f the prblem. Hw can I exclude a file r flder frm virus and spyware scanning? T pen the prduct, duble-click the prduct icn at the bttm right crner f yur screen. T exclude a file r flder frm virus and spyware scanning: 1. On the main page, click Settings. 2. D ne f the fllwing: Select Cmputer > Virus and spyware scanning. Select Cmputer > Manual scanning. 3. Click Open excluded items list. 4. T exclude a file, drive, r flder: 18 / 48

19 Select the Objects tab. Select Exclude bjects (files, flders,...). Click Add. Select the file, drive, r flder that yu want t exclude frm virus scanning. Nte: Sme drives may be remvable drives, such as CD, DVD r netwrk drives. Netwrk drives and empty remvable drives cannt be excluded. Click OK. 5. Repeat the previus step t exclude ther files, drives, r flders frm being scanned fr viruses. 6. Click OK t clse the Exclude frm scanning dialg bx. 7. Click OK t apply the new settings. Hw can I exclude certain file types frm virus and spyware scanning? T pen the prduct, duble-click the prduct icn at the bttm right crner f yur screen. T exclude file types frm virus and spyware scanning: 1. On the main page, click Settings. 2. D ne f the fllwing: Select Cmputer > Virus and spyware scanning. Select Cmputer > Manual scanning. 3. Click Open excluded items list. 4. T exclude a file type: Select the File Types tab. Select Exclude files with these extensins. Type a file extensin that identifies the type f files that yu want t exclude, in the field next t the Add buttn. T specify files that have n extensin, type '.'. Yu can use the wildcard '?' t represent any single character, r '*' t represent any number f characters. Fr example, t exclude executable files, type exe in the field. Click Add. 5. Repeat the previus step fr any ther extensin yu want t be excluded frm being scanned fr viruses. 19 / 48

20 6. Click OK t clse the Exclude frm scanning dialg bx. 7. Click OK t apply the new settings. Hw t clean an infected System Vlume Infrmatin flder r a System Restre flder? System Restre is a feature f Windws Vista, Windws XP, Windws 7 and Windws ME (Windws ME is nt supprted by ). If a virus infects the cmputer, it is pssible that the virus is backed up in the System Restre flder. T scan and clean the System Restre flder, yu need t turn it ff. By turning ff System Restre, yu lse yur last system restre pint. Unfrtunately there is n ther way t remve infectins frm System Restre. If yu want t cntinue using the System Restre feature, it is imprtant t turn it n after remving the infected files. 1. T turn ff System Restre in Windws XP: a. Clse all pen prgrams. b. Right-click My Cmputer, and select Prperties. The System Prperties dialg bx pens. c. Click the System Restre tab. d. Select the Turn ff System Restre n all drives check bx. e. Click Apply. f. When the system asks if yu want t turn ff System Restre, click Yes. g. Click OK. h. Scan all hard drives and all files fr viruses with yur. 2. Once yu have scanned and cleaned the files, turn n System Restre in XP as fllws: a. Right-click My Cmputer, and select Prperties. The System Prperties dialg bx pens. b. Click the System Restre tab. c. Clear the Turn ff System Restre n all drives check bx. d. Click Apply, and then click OK. 3. T turn ff System Restre in Windws Vista: a. Clse all pen prgrams. b. 21 c. Select All Prgrams > Maintenance. d. Select Maintenance > Backup and Restre Center. e. Click Create a restre pint r change settings. If asked, click Cntinue. f. Under Available disks, clear the checkbxes fr all drives. g. Click Apply. h. When the system asks if yu want t turn ff System Restre, click Turn System Restre Off. i. Click OK. j. Restart yur cmputer. k. Scan all hard drives and all files fr viruses with yur. 4. Once yu have scanned and cleaned the files, turn n System Restre in Vista as fllws: a. Clse all pen prgrams. b. Click Start. c. Select All Prgrams > Maintenance. d. Select MaintenaceBackup and Restre Center. e. Click Create a restre pint r change settings. If asked, click Cntinue. f. Under Available Disks, select all drives. g. Click Apply. h. When the system asks if yu want t turn ff System Restre, click Turn System Restre Off. i. Click OK. 5. Select Restre system settings and previus versins f files. f. Click Apply. g. Click OK. Hw des the advanced prcess mnitring in DeepGuard prtect my cmputer? Advanced prcess mnitring checks if prcesses are changed while they are running. Infected files may try t d that and infect the whle cmputer thrugh bugs in sftware. Advanced prcess mnitring prtects als the web brwser against infectins, which makes it an imprtant part f brwsing prtectin. Advanced prcess mnitring may, hwever, cause issues with certain games which use anti-cheat mechanisms. The prblem ccurs because bth DeepGuard and the game try t make sure that a prcess is nt changed. DeepGuard checks fr infectins, and the game checks that n scres r similar are changed. Turning ff advanced prcess mnitring reslves the issue. 23 Spyware What is spyware? Spyware are prgrams that cllect yur persnal infrmatin. Spyware may cllect persnal infrmatin including: Internet sites yu have brwsed, addresses frm yur cmputer, passwrds, r credit card numbers. Spyware almst always installs itself withut yur explicit permissin. Spyware may get installed tgether with a useful prgram r by tricking yu int clicking an ptin in a misleading pp-up windw. An applicatin stpped wrking after I remved spyware frm my cmputer. What can I d? Applicatins that install spyware may stp wrking if yu remve the spyware frm the applicatin. Yu have tw ptins: 1. Stp using the applicatin and uninstall it. 2. If yu still want t use the applicatin, d the fllwing: a. Instead f remving the spyware, mve it t the quarantine. b. When yu want t use the applicatin, restre the spyware frm the quarantine. Nte: Restred spyware starts t wrk again and can spy yur cmputer and shw advertising pp-ups. c. The firewall prtects yur cmputer by allwing safe Internet traffic and blcking unsafe traffic.
