The Lake Morey Resort in Fairlee will host this year s golf tournament, education seminars, merchandise vendors and awards banquet. Lake Morey Resort is a beautiful location to get away for a few days to network with peers, learn the latest information and best practices to help support you in providing the highest quality care for Vermonters. We will once again taste the culinary creations of our facility chefs as part of the 2015 Super Chef Competition. This event has quickly become a member favorite. The Annual Awards Banquet on Tuesday evening is a time for fun, reflection and celebration as VHCA recognizes the outstanding commitment and dedication our members have for the staff, residents and families in their communities. It shows in their clinical, regulatory, customer satisfaction and financial outcomes. At this engaging, 90-minute program participants will learn to: Create a higher functioning, collaborative culture Move staff beyond the silos (and recognize the damage that silos can do to performance) Turn around a sub-optimum performing interdisciplinary team by targeting their most frequent roadblocks Describe what upcoming changes in the reimbursement landscape will make higher performance teams an absolute requirement Leverage meetings to produce greater team results, and Implement the processes that drive valuable team communication strategies. 3 11:00 1:15 p.m. TRADE SHOW & Lunch 1:15 2:45 Concurrent Education Retaining Quality Senior Care Staff Presenter: Lou Ann Brubaker Target Audience: Management, Department Leaders In this program the goal of keeping great senior care staff is distilled into ten strategies that can be IMMEDIATELY implemented by attendees through content with on-the-ground, real-world focus. Presented in an upbeat, fun format, attendees will learn best practices that can be seamlessly incorporated into current processes or used to create new retention strategies. Following this fun, 90-minute conference session, participants will be able to Describe why exit interviews offer little insight into the reasons for a resignation Examine how current orientation processes support or undermine new hire retention Articulate what motivates staff to remain within a senior care facility, including what little part compensation plays in retention Identify the four categories that staff fall into, including what to do about each and what impact they have on retention Recognize how some employee recognition programs can be counterproductive in retention efforts Evaluate staff decision making authority to drive higher retention Dehydration and the Elderly Presenter: Peggy Mattes, RN, BSN, CRNI HealthDirect Pharmacy Target Audience: Nurses and Direct Care Workers This session will provide information on dehydration in the elderly and the effects of age on intake and output. Clinical findings and assessments will be reviewed. Different types of dehydration will be discussed as well as diseases and dehydration. Most importantly attendees will learn prevention and treatment of dehydration and how dehydration should be care planned and documented. Quality Measures and the Direct Care Worker Presenter: Gail Colgan, RN, BSN and Gail Harbour, RN, BSN Vermont Project Coordinators, New England QIN-QIO Target Audience: Direct Care Workers This session will provide the who, what, when, where and why of quality measures. Direct care workers will have an understanding of the role they play in achieving better quality measures. There will be a discussion of successes and barriers to improving quality measures.

Crisp IV Downs Rachlin Martin PLLC Target Audience: Administrators The first half of this session covers the use of medical marijuana and e-cigarettes in long-term care communities, including a brief glimpse into a future where Vermont has legalized marijuana. The second half covers the new Vermont False Claims Act and its intersection with the Federal False Claims Act. 3:00 4:30 Concurrent Education Resident Delight: Why It s Your Most Important Senior Care Outcome Presenter: Lou Ann Brubaker Target Audience: Management, Department Leaders, All Every single performance objective within a senior care facility is more likely to be achieved if within the organization s culture is an exceptional customer service spirit. Simply stated, when residents and families are delighted the facility s financial, regulatory, census and staff retention goals are more easily achieved. This energizing session targets the critical elements that define and contribute to delight and how your organization can embed it as a focus within its daily efforts. Presenter: Jean Szilva, MD Alosa Foundation Michelle Champoux, LICSW OASIS Coach Target Audience: Direct Care Workers We recognize that LNAs and Activity Department staff are those most affected on a daily basis with the problematic behavior of some residents with dementia. You all know that regulations now require a reduction in the use of antipsychotic medications that have been commonly used to treat and prevent the behavior problems that stress residents and staff alike. This workshop will give you the information you need to understand the problem. Come think together about how to use your skills and your team more effectively to make the lives of those in your care better while making your life better too. Understanding the Pain Quality Measure Presenter: Gail Colgan, RN, BSN and Gail Harbour, RN, BSN Vermont Project Coordinators, New England QIN-QIO Target Audience: Nurses, MDS Coordinators This session will provide an overview of the Star Rating system as well as an overview of the Quality Measures. There will be a specific focus on the accuracy of a pain assessment and how it relates to your facilities Quality Measures.

5 Two-part presentation: 1)New DLP State Survey Evaluation Tool Presenters: Suzanne Leavitt, RN, MS Department of Licensing and Protection Michelle Lawrence of the Vermont Program for Quality in Health Care In an effort to improve survey/complaint investigation experiences for both facilities and surveyors, the Division of Licensing and Protection is seeking feedback following visits to hospitals, long-term care facilities, and home health agencies. The Vermont Program for Quality in Health Care has partnered with the DLP to develop an online confidential survey, which will be housed on the VPQHC website and available to any staff involved in the survey/investigation process. This presentation will provide an overview of the project and demonstrate how to successfully submit a survey using the online tool 2) Navigating ACA Compliance Tips and Resources For Meeting Employer Requirements. Presenter: Jeff Marble, LUTCF Vermont Brokerage Services This session will provide information on ACA compliance and the IRS regulations. There are many penalties and fees for not being in compliance. Come to this session to learn what you need to do to be in compliance. Registration Changes: Changes to your registration prior to convention must be submitted in writing to the Association office. Please fax or your changes. Changes will be accepted through September 10, 2015 after which all changes must be made on-site. PAYMENT: Payment for the convention must be made in advance. Any payment not received prior to the event shall be billed at the non-member rate. If membership dues or any invoices are 90 days in arrears, registration fee for convention will be charged at the non-member rate unless payment is made in full prior to convention. REFUND POLICY: All cancellations must be in writing. Cancellations received prior to 9/8/15 will receive a refund less 10% processing fee.
