5 The MED Group National Rehab Conference August 20 to 22, 2007 Session Summaries General Sessions 1. The Rehab Radar Screen- If you don t find your head spinning at times, you re not really paying attention. We ll start the conference with a quick review of the latest reimbursement, legislative and regulatory issues and how they impact your rehab business. A great primer to help focus on what to be planning for and what to be talking about with your fellow conference attendees. (Pride Mobility) 2. The World of Your Therapists- The therapists in a marketplace can play a key role in the business of a rehab technology company. This session will help you better understand the clinical and financial world these folks work in. Hear what they look for in a rehab provider, how to maximize the overall effectiveness of the interaction among the rehab team, and how to help your therapists get reimbursed for their evaluation and assessment activities. Happy Hour and Supplier Showcase- One of the great things about coming to a meeting like this is the opportunity to exchange business ideas, renew business acquaintances, and make new ones. New Manual Wheelchair Codes Are Coming- We all know we ve been through major changes in the area of power mobility. Well, the area of manual wheelchairs is about to go through a similar overhaul. Late 2007 or early 2008 will bring multiple new codes, along with coverage, documentation, and pricing changes. This session will review what we can expect and help you begin to plan accordingly. (Sunrise Medical- Rita Hostak) 5. PMD Billing and Documentation- While the dust has settled to some extent for power mobility devices, there still are important issues to be mindful of. Here we will review what companies are doing to meet the related coverage and paperwork requirements. Actual submitted claims and supporting documentation will be examined to highlight what to watch for and what to avoid. (The Orion Group- Claudia Amortegui) Track 1 Breakout Sessions Management 6. Effectively Using Coding, ADMCs and ABNs- In our complicated world you need to be sure you are obtaining the appropriate level of reimbursement. To do that, you need to know the nuances of the coding system along with when and how to use an Advanced Determination of Medicare Coverage (ADMC) and an Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN). This session will cover these topics and provide practical guidance for your business. (Pride- Paul Komishock) 7. Productivity Measures and Technology Solutions- You ve heard it said a business today must look at ways to reduce costs and increase productivity. This session will review the key areas to focus on for productivity improvement, how to measure, and what technology is available to help. Reimbursement Pitfalls and Fixes- Reimbursement for rehab technology has its own set of unique requirements and complexities. This session will cover the common areas that cause companies problems and how best to manage them effectively. Time for open discussion and individual questions and answers will also be provided. 6 9. Consumer Power and Retailing- It's no secret that there is a big "consumer power" market out there. And the products are not limited to just scooter and wheelchair bases. But how do you go from a sound business strategy to actual real life implementation? This session will cover the demographics of the market, the key marketing strategies and tools, and what companies are doing to successfully go after this market. (Sunrise Medical- Ming Chang) 10. Management Roundtable- Coming together as owners and managers provides a great opportunity to get feedback from your peers. This time will be used to have an open discussion based on attendee selected topics. Potential areas include dealing with third party payers, product selection strategies, and getting your customers involved in advocacy. Please come ready to both give and receive. (MED- Don Clayback) 11. Competitive Bidding.What You Need To Know- The first round of Medicare s National Competitive Bidding program is underway. This initiative has industry-wide ramifications. In this session we ll review the details of the Final Rule, the steps in the bidding process, the experiences to-date in Round 1, and what lies ahead. Key business considerations and action items will be identified and discussed so that you can begin to prepare your company and your bid. (MED- Don Clayback) Track 2 Breakout Sessions RTS 12. Working Outside The Box- With so many changes in the funding of power mobility systems it s important to keep a perspective on what makes Rehab unique. This session will present case studies of Rehab clients whose therapists and Rehab providers refused to limit their options to what was on the standard order form. (Motion Concepts- Brad Peterson, OTR) 13. Seating Today and Tomorrow- Seating and positioning is a major factor in functional mobility. This session will review the basic principles of proper seating and the variety of seating and positioning technology that is currently available. The discussions will also cover what new technology is in development and the related benefits and challenges that lie ahead. (ROHO- Tom Borcherding) 14. Getting the Back Right- The right seating system involves more than the seat, it includes the back too. This session will review the key features of appropriate back support, using hands-on assessment to determine what back support parameters are critical, and utilizing clinical judgment and tools to measure the outcome of a well fitted back support. (Sunrise Medical- Sharon Pratt) 15. Power Positioning.Applications and Justifications- In the world of power mobility and positioning there is some great technology available. You need to know what to use when, but also how to get it funded. This session will review the options available, when to use them, the funding barriers, and most importantly, how to document and present the need to secure funding. (Permobil- Ann Eubank, OTR/L, ATP) 16. Passing The ATS Exam (2 Parts)- Credentialing is becoming more important and is now required by Medicare and some other payers if you are providing complex rehab products. The Assistive Technology Supplier (ATS) credential is the current industry standard. This session will review the ATS exam offered by RESNA. Topics covered will include preparation approaches, key focus areas, study resources, and test taking tips. Note: Consists of two sessions. (Sponsored by Pride)
