9 Carnegie Units According to SC state law regarding school attendance, in order for a student to receive 1 Carnegie Unit of credit, a student must not exceed 5 unexcused absences. Students may be denied credit if they miss more than 5 unexcused absences. By successfully passing a course and meeting the attendance requirements, a student can earn a Carnegie Unit. 24 Carnegie Units are required for graduation.
