This year, the report card has been updated to reflect changes in reporting directed by the SC Education Oversight Committee. s will not be rated for state accountability purposes until Fall 2017 when the state will transition to a single accountability system. Our students, teachers, parents, and community members demonstrate on outstanding commitment to Banks Trail's vision of creating a student-centered school. Our entire school community embraces the three goals of academic rigor, student engagement, and community communication. Banks Trail is once again pleased and honored with our accomplishments this year: Palmetto Gold for Performance; Palmetto Silver for Closing the Achievement Gap; BTMS band students performed at STARS Festival Orlando; three students performed in the South Carolina All-State Band Event at Furman University; thirtyfour students earned York County Band Honors; nineteen students represented Banks Trail in the All-Region Band; forty-two students received recognition as Jr. Scholars; four 8th Grade students won national recognition in the 2015 Edison Invention Challenge; fourteen students were invited to attend Summer Studies through Duke T.I.P Scholars program; MATHCOUNTS Team earned 1st Place in the Catawba Chapter Competition for the second consecutive year- four of these students went to the State Competition, placing 9th; ten students represented Banks Trail in the District Scripps National Spelling Bee; two students earned AllStar Performers designation by Broadway Jr.; the Banks Trail Theatre Company performed at the MTI Broadway Jr. Musical Theatre Festival for the 2nd year in a row; a Banks Trail student in the Geography Bee competed in the State Competition after winning the District level competition; Ms. Melanie Kugler, 7th grade Science Teacher, was recognized as a Siemans STEM Institute Fellow; BTMS PowerPeriod showcased twentythree Enrichment Clubs during "Club Night at the Trail" which saw over 1,000 community members in attendance; and Ms. Danielle Lennon, 8th grade Social Studies, earned recognition as one of only five Honor Roll Teachers in the Fort Mill District. As we look forward to continuing the academic excellence and engaging extracurricular programs which have been the hallmark of the Banks Trail experience, we will continue to focus on the element which has made Banks Trail an outstanding middle school: Putting children first... everyday!
