2 GRADUATION REQUIREMTNS First Handout - graduation requirements for class of 2017 This is available on Pinellas County Web site You need to understand the requirements I will not be able to sit with each of you to talk about your child s future I can answer if you have questions.
3 CREDIT CHECKS - 1. I will be filling this out to students at registration 2. Go to the Course History in focus to try to fill this out yourself 3. Compare what you came up with and what I send home 4. If you have any questions, me. 5. Use the credit check and the requirements to help guide your student for registration
4 PURPOSE OF CREDIT CHECKS The purpose of credit checks is to make sure the classes recorded in course history are correct and that you and your student are aware of the graduation requirements your child has met or has not met. There are mistakes on the course history printouts because: Credits are not transferred from middle school correctly IT has not been able to print a credit check specifically for each of the four years because each of the four years have different requirements. FLVS grades have not yet been recorded Please your child s counselor if you see an error on Course History or the credit check. Your child will get two credit checks a year from now on. It is their responsibility to show it to you and make sure they understand the notes written on the credit check.
5 ENGLISH If your child is taking English 1 ENGLISH 4 Credits 1st Semester (0.5 2nd Semester (0.5 Year Long (1.0 English 1 X Must pass Reading Assessment English 2 English 3 English 4 *A student can graduate by receiving a score comparable to the FCAT passing score on the Reading portion of the ACT (19) or SAT (430). If your child took English in MS and is currently taking English 2 ENGLISH 4 Credits 1st Semester (0.5 2nd Semester (0.5 Year Long (1.0 English 1 X Must pass Reading Assessment English 2 X English 3 English 4 *A student can graduate by receiving a score comparable to the FCAT passing score on the Reading portion of the ACT (19) or SAT (430).
6 MATH If your child is taking Alg 1, Alg 1B, or Geometry they cannot get credit until they take the EOC MATH 4 Credits 1st Semester (0.5 2nd Semester (0.5 Year Long (1.0 Algebra 1 Must pass EOC for credit and is 30% Geometry Must take EOC, is 30% of grade 3rd Math 4th Math *A combination of Algebra 1A & 1B counts only as 1 credit for Bright Futures and/or university admissions. *A PERT Math score of 97 or greater can be used as a concordant passing score for the Algebra 1 EOC. *Liberal Arts Math does not count for Bright Futures and/or university admissions. *Algebra 2 is required for university admissions. *2 credits may be substituted with allowable industry certification courses that lead to college credit. If your child took algebra in MS and is currently taking Geometry MATH 4 Credits Algebra 1 1st Semester (0.5 2nd Semester (0.5 Year Long (1.0 X X Must pass EOC for credit and is 30% Geometry Must take EOC, is 30% of grade 3rd Math 4th Math *A combination of Algebra 1A & 1B counts only as 1 credit for Bright Futures and/or university admissions. *A PERT Math score of 97 or greater can be used as a concordant passing score for the Algebra 1 EOC. *Liberal Arts Math does not count for Bright Futures and/or university admissions. *Algebra 2 is required for university admissions. *2 credits may be substituted with allowable industry certification courses that lead to college credit.

Must take EOC, is 30% of grade SCIENCE 3 Credits Biology *1 credit may be substituted with allowable industry certification courses that lead to college credit. If your child took Integrated Science Honors in MS and is currently taking Biology. They cannot get credit for biology until they take the EOC and the grade is calculated. 2nd Science 3rd Science 1st Semester (0.5 2nd Semester (0.5 Year Long (1.0 X INT SC *Two of the Science courses must contain a lab component. *1 credit may be substituted with allowable industry certification courses that lead to college credit. 10 VIRTUAL SCHOOL AND FOREIGN LANGUAGE VIRTUAL COURSE 1 Full Course FOREIGN LANGUAGE None *Completion of just one semester of a full year course cannot be used to meet this requirement. *Driver's Education cannot be used to meet this requirement. 1st Semester (0.5 2nd Semester (0.5 Year Long (1.0 1st Credit 2nd Credit *2 credits in the same foreign language are required for the Bright Futures Academic & Medallion Scholarships as well as for university admissions.
11 CREDITS AND GPA TOTAL 24 Credits GPA 2.0 You currently have: credits You are on track for total credits. You are behind on credits. You MUST see your counselor for Credit Recovery options. You currently have: unweighted Your GPA is on track for graduation. Your GPA is below 2.0 You MUST see your counselor for Grade Forgiveness options. Credits and GPA may not be correct on the credit check until all errors are corrected.
