230 Units Pass Algebra 1 Pass California High School Exit Exam 40 Service Hours
All 9 th graders are in courses required for graduation Most 9 th graders are in College Prep classes Both College Prep and Honors classes meet College/University entrance requirements Most 9 th graders have one elective
Students are enrolled in required courses for graduation Students can enroll in both College Prep and Non-College Prep courses View Four Year Plan for timeline of required courses and electives on the WHS website
230 units needed to graduate 2 semesters per year 5 units earned per semester per class 6 classes taken each semester 30 units earned per semester/60 units per year. Passing grade: D or higher
English 40 units Math (pass Algebra 1) 30 units Science 20 units Social Science 30 units P.E. 20 units Health/*Geography 10 units *Geography meets Computer requirement Fine Art/World Lang/CTE 10 units Electives 70 units TOTAL 230 units Community Service California High School Exit Exam
GRADE 9 1. English 9 2. Math 3. Int. Science or Biology 4. Physical Education 5. Health & Geography 6. Fine Art/World Lang/CTE (student chooses when taken) GRADE English Math 3. Biology or Chemistry 4. Physical Education 5. World History 6. Elective GRADE English Math 3. U. S. History 4. Elective 5. Elective 6. Elective GRADE English Economics/Government 3. Elective 4. Elective 5. Elective 6. Elective
Requirement met during Junior or Senior High School by: Passing both semesters of Algebra 1 --or-- Passing Algebra 2
Community Service: Pre-approved volunteer activity Non-profit organization Service Learning Project: Teacher creates activity Project related to class content Project s goal is to help school or community Must document hours on school form and turn in to box in Student Center no later than the end of each school year Hours will be recorded on transcript
First Exam taken in Spring of 10th Grade Two-Part Exam: English Language Arts Math Only part that has not been passed is repeated Repeated until both sections are passed
Courses Grades & GPA Credits CAHSEE Results Community Service Hours
Service Learning hours Courses Grades Units Credits required Credits completed CAHSEE Pass/Fail Overall GPA (unweighted)
o D grades are passing and DO earn credit for graduation o However D grades: Are not accepted for admission by 4-year (CSU & UC) colleges in a-g classes (a-g= College Prep classes) Will not allow you move up to the next level of many subjects (e.g., math, science, foreign language)
o F grades are NOT PASSING and will not earn credit towards graduation Students only have 10 flexible elective credits. Any classes failed beyond those must be made up in Summer School in order to graduate.
o Students that have passed all of their classes for this semester will have 30 credits as indicated in the Credit Totals box o We have a new computer system so there may be some errors that are in the process of being worked out e.g., Basic Auto given 10 credits when it only earns 5 o If you have less than 30 credits, you should see your counselor when the announcements for summer school are made to register
Summer School Summer School is the BEST way to make up credits (F grades) and to grade improve D grades BUT Students can only take 2 semester classes in Summer School (10 units). Strict attendance policy; no more than two absences. The need to grade improve more than two classes may affect the student s ability to move up levels in courses due to prerequisites, which could impact College Prep standing
Why you should NOT rely on Adult School for credit recovery: Must be 16 years old Limited course offerings (e.g., Science is not offered so the only way to make that course up would be through summer school) Priority given to seniors; few juniors get into these classes Adult School classes are not a-g classes (i.e., do not meet the 4-year college admission requirements)
If a student fails more than a few classes and continues this pattern, then the student will be referred to Robertson Continuation High School.
o After School Math Tutoring on Thursdays from 2:50-3:50 p.m. o o Use School Loop to monitor your progress and track assignments, quizzes/ tests Communicate with your teachers about: o Your grades o Suggestions for how to improve in the class o Tutoring assistance- ask if it is available
Access to: Grades Assignments in progress & due dates Attendance teachers counselor and/or Administrator School Calendar Important Announcements And more!
