6 Engineer clusters: 12 units before 2011, today 5 clusters: Nanocharacterization cluster, (N. Ratel-Ramond & P. Sciau) variety of characterization tools to probe chemical and physical properties of materials, at different scales, from macroscopic properties down to nano-scale. The pole is divided in 8 activities: TEM, X-ray, Optical Spectroscopy, Scanning Probe Microscopy, Physical Measurements, Focused Ion Beam, Powder Characterization, Scanning Electron Microscope, Mechanical Tests Nanofab cluster (C. Viala & A. Masseboeuf): nanofab. techniques including material elaboration either by chemical or physical means, and TEM sample preparation. Detailed activities of the cluster : -TEM sample Preparation, -Focused Ion Beam facility, -Ultra-High Vacuum, -Ion Ultra Low Energy(ULE), - Organic Chemistry synthesis. Engineering cluster (P. Abeillou & J.Ph. Monchoux): This cluster offers skills in electronics and mechanics and thus participate to the main lab instrumental developments, in a multi disciplinary context, particularly around vacuum technologies (UHV), high voltage, cryogenics, optics. Support cluster (M. Errecart & X. Bouju). The support cluster of the CEMES/CNRS laboratory is composed of 4 units that carry out service assignments to the scientific community: Infrastructure, Finance, Library, Nanotech cluster (P. Bigotte & C. Joachim), recently created. Management of the clean rooms of the Pico- Lab building, development of the atom-tech sector in ensuring compatibility UHV developed nanomanufacturing processes, developing micro -and nano-manufacturing processes applied to nanomaterials, providing a set of physical measures suited to devices manufactured by the pole.

17 FemTOTEM: Towards ultrafast coherent electron microscopy The FemTOTEM project is radically different from the other UTEM projects. This project supported by the CNRS-INP aims at developing the first 200 kv UTEM based on a high brightness laser-driven field emission source. This will be achieved by bringing together a femtosecond laser source and a customized cold-field emission TEM following a design patented by CEMES researchers. FemTOTEM will enable disruptive fast electron based nanospectroscopies and lead to the first time resolved-electron holography experiments, a series of significant advances that would push coherent microscopy into new, ultrafast area. Its major objectives are Picosecond Time Resolved Cathodoluminescence (ptrcl), Energy Gain Spectroscopy and ultrafast electron holography.
18 CPER nanomatériaux adressables The "NANOMAT" project aims at strengthening the recognition of the Toulouse site in the field of «nanos», by joining all the skills, equipment and energy, beyond the Labex NEXT, in the field of nanomaterials. We are talking here not only of the development of future electronic components, chemical or physical sensors, quantum computers, conversion and energy storage devices, but also of nano-objects showing innovative functionalities to be used in structural materials or for therapeutic use. The project proposes to bring together the complementary strengths of the Toulouse site in the field of nanomaterials by bringing the specifics of 4 laboratories, CEMES, LCC, CIRIMAT and LPCNO. The requested equipment will be open not only to researchers of the four partner laboratories but also of those from the federations of Physics (IRSAMC, FR2558 ) and Chemistry (ICT, FR 2599) located in Toulouse
