4 ABOUT THE RACE The General 100 is a 4- or 7- member team running relay covering 100 miles of beautiful, challenging terrain beginning in Kennesaw, Georgia. The course primarily follows scenic country roads winding its way through North Georgia s historic sites to the finish line in Ringgold, Georgia. The race route faithfully parallels the railroad from Kennesaw to Ringgold following the route of the famous Great Locomotive Chase. On April 12th, 1862, Union soldiers stole the General locomotive and several train cars in Big Shanty (Kennesaw) and headed north for Chattanooga. They were quickly pursued with a separate locomotive, by hand-car and finally on foot by the General s resourceful conductor. Only 1 team member will take the road at a time. While this individual is completing his or her leg of the relay, the remaining team members will travel by vehicle to the next timing station/exchange point. There will be 18 exchange points. Distances will range from 3 to 7 miles between each exchange. So leave the kids with Grandma, strap on your boots, and pack your ruck sacks! The General 100 is a Ringgold Telephone Company (RTC) event. With help from Scenic City Multisport, the race will be professionally timed, managed and executed. All proceeds benefit the Evitt Foundation. general100.com

5 THE PROCEEDS The mission of the Evitt Foundation is to promote child welfare and education to the greater North Georgia and Chattanooga area. GIVING BACK Helping the Community Our purpose is to support our community by helping provide brighter futures for children. In 2004, The Evitt Foundation, a 501(c)(3), was established to honor the memory and legacy of Ringgold Telephone Company founder, Jim Evitt Sr. During his lifetime, Jim Evitt Sr. was not only the local pharmacist, a Catoosa County Superior Court Clerk, and entrepreneur, he was also an instrumental part of numerous projects that made Ringgold a better community. Evitt consistently looked for opportunities to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate. Today, the Evitt Foundation s mission is one which strives to keep Jim Evitt Sr. s legacy alive. The Foundation works toward promoting child welfare and education in the Catoosa County community, as well as in underprivileged areas throughout the world.

6 1CHOOSE YOUR GENERAL 2 ASSEMBLE THE TROOPS 3 Every successful unit needs a strong leader to take charge and help prepare for an upcoming battle. Let s be honest, 100 miles is no easy feat! Your job? Pull together a group of men and women who are as passionate about running as you are. Each team General will serve as a liaison between the General 100 crew and your team. Get your team registered. Have each member sign up and register themselves under said team. You pay the entry fee. They pay you. We have a lot of important information to tell you; we trust the General can handle it! You want me to do what?! Typical response we hear when prompting our friends to do such an intense and agonizing activity. Only kidding! To organize your team, gather up 4 or 7 people, depending on the length that each person would like to run. Don t know 4 or 7 people crazy enough to run that far? (It s okay. We are not looking for normal people.) We can help! We have a team-matching feature on our website for you to petition other runners to join your team. You will also need a mode of transportation. See website for details. 100 MILES OF RUNNING After months and months of training for the General 100, it is time to go to battle! All of that hard work will pay off as you and your friends defeat over 100 miles of some of the most beautiful countryside in the U.S. We recommend and encourage team costumes and decorations for your car! When you and your team cross the finish line, we will welcome you with entertainment and food straight from our local food trucks.
