7 Dear Colleagues and Sector Representatives, IDF World Dairy Summit 2017 will be held at Lütfi Kırdar Convention & Exhibition Centre under the hosting of Turkish Milk Board. We are honored and pleased to invite you to this event which will be held for the first time in Turkey. You are all welcome. World Dairy Summit, which is organized every year conventionally in different countries by IDF and targeted to reach a large number of producers, entrepreneurs, consumers and elite scientists from all over the world, plays an important role in analyzing and discussing global situation and development of world dairy sector. We believe that the summit to be held in Turkey in 2017 and expected to be attended by about three thousand delegates from almost every country of the World will initiate new developments in the dairy sector, which has a very important place in the Food Industry in terms of human nutrition and health. It is clear that Republic of Turkey needs to work in collaboration with farmers, private sectors and other strategic partners in order to develop innovative solutions and policies for sectoral development. Because of its global framework, this Convention is also important in terms of being a global platform where situation and solutions for common problems of dairy sector are being discussed. Moreover, this summit is also worthy in terms of gains brought by its scientific mission, and as a place where academic studies and evaluations are being done related with the sector and opportunities of technological contributions to the industry that will be provided by the results of such studies and evaluations. While Turkey has an important place with its production power among the world producers in the production of cow, sheep and goat s milk which are the raw materials of the sector, it also draws attention of world dairy sector because of having a large number of consumer population in regard to consumption of production such as yoghurt, ayran and cheese. In line with the rapidly growing developments in production and consumption, effective studies intended to increase the production and marketing of quality milk demonstrate that our country will become effective in world milk and milk products market in the near future and play an efficient role in guiding the sector. Therefore, IDF World Dairy Summit 2017 has of great importance for the introduction of development of Turkey in milk and milk products sector and for the recognition of the contribution that may be done by Turkey to global milk sector. This platform will also provide opportunity to trace the latest developments in all areas of the sector such as dairy farming and sustainable milk production, milk processing sector, animal health and welfare, milk consumption and human nutrition and health relations, and dairy sector economy, and make an important contribution to the reliable and sustainable development of both for our country and global dairy sector. IDF World Dairy Summit 2017 will be held in İstanbul, one of the world s most beautiful city. Dairy sector also needs organizational and operational developments like as all other sectors in the world development process. Monitoring closely the sectoral developments and eliminating the problems is only possible with friendship, understanding and cooperation models. We believe that this summit, which will provide a high level scientific environment together with a unique geography, history and culture, will eliminate the long distances and make very significant contributions to all participants and stakeholders in establishing new friendships and cooperation in all fields of the sector. 8 INTERNATIONAL DAIRY FEDERATION WORLD DAIRY SUMMIT 2017 ISTANBUL, TURKEY TURKISH MILK BOARD Turkish Milk Board, which was established in order to carry out the works required to provide market and price stability in the dairy sector in line with market conditions and improve consumer awareness, is a non governmental organization formed by incorporation of associations, societies, cooperatives established by milk producers and industrialists, research and education institutions conducting studies related with milk, trade associations, consumer organizations together with public entities and authorities to carry out the studies within the frame of national agricultural policies stated in Agriculture Act dated 18/04/2006 of No The first Regulation on Incorporation and Operation Procedures and Principles of Turkish Milk Board has been published n the Official Gazette dated 23 September Turkish Milk Board is an institution which brings all stakeholders of the sector together in our country such as milk producers / farmers, milk industrialists, relevant public entities and authorities as well as research institutions, trade associations and nongovernmental organizations, and where their views are being shared. Milk Board is an umbrella organization in our country for milk sector as it embraces all the sector. It is the only organization where whole milk industrialists corresponding to almost entirety of total milk amount processed nationally and societies, associations, foundations and cooperatives of milk farmers at different regions as well as all the stakeholders in the sectors are being represented. The range of tasks defined in the Regulation on Incorporation and Operation Procedures and Principles of Turkish Milk Board issued by Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock are quite wide. All the activities for every stage of the chain from production to consumption such as production, processing, trading, consumption of milk are specified in the regulation. In this scope, the Board has undertaken important implementations both in national and international arena since it was founded. Furthermore, our Board has begun to represent Turkey in world league as a member of International Dairy Federation (IDF) which are representing 89% of World milk sector and having nearly 60 members on country basis. Turkish Milk Board has actively attended in World Dairy Summits held in a different member country every year since the year of 2011 in which it undertook the national representation task as well as represented our country at regional conference organized in Seoul, capital of South Korea in Turkish National Committee established by the Board in 2012 has attended in World Dairy Summit organized in Cape Town in South Africa in 2012, and Summit Report produced by the Committee has been shared with whole sector. Moreover, National Standing Committee for 9 major chapters formed by the representatives of producers, industrialist and public side for each chapter has been established in order for our country to be represented in all working committees within the IDF. Besides this, the attempts of our board to bring World Dairy Summit to our country which is the largest event in the global sector since we were a member of it gave result last year and 2017 summit was decided by IDF to be held in İstanbul. The first official application about this matter was made in 2010, and our decisiveness set forth in the works conducted especially in 2012 and integration of our sector and Turkish Milk Board into IDF has major effect in bringing World Dairy Summit to be held in 2017 and expected to be attended nearly by 3000 persons. 8

9 INTERNATIONAL DAIRY FEDERATION (IDF) International Dairy Federation, founded in 1903, is a platform where 86 % of total milk produced in the world are being represented with 56 member countries in total today, and the most powerful sector organization in the field. The IDF was established with mission of representation of the views of all the stakeholders in milk and milk products sector at international arena in order to provide healthy food to consumers by supporting quality of milk and milk products and providing scientific information services to its members. One of the most important tasks of IDF which provides upto-date scientific and technological projections, information regarding the solutions of many problem in the sector through 1200 experts, 18 working committee and 9 basic working fields is to provide scientific based information to international organizations, governments and law makers. IDF having a strong representation and lobbying power in the organizations in international arena such as ISO (International Standards Organization), Codex Alimentarious, the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) and OIE (World Organization for Animal Health) assesses the member studies regarding the issues such as animal health and welfare, environment, nutrition, food safety, hygiene and food standards and reveals best practices for each area. Our country is a member of IDF since 2009 which is comprised by National Committees formed by national associations and societies representing all the parties in the sector such as producers, industrialists, suppliers, academicians and public side representatives, and is being represented at the World Dairy Summit organized annually. The representation of our country at IDF which deals with all issues regarding the sector such as production, processing, economy, feeding is carried out by Turkish Milk Board since 2011 as being an umbrella organization in the sector. 9

At least 4 companies made sponsorshıp in the summits held until today. Product placement by one or several companies can be done within the scope of this package which play a great role in introducing the products of companies. System operates as follows: Design and application of Milk Bar decors are performed by organization secretariat The sponsors who bought Milk Bar sponsorship may put their packaged products (milk, cheese, ice cream...) inside the cold cabinets. Cold cabinets can be supplied either by the secretariat or by the company. Please contact with the organization secretariat for extra fees. All participants are entitled to use the products which are exhibited freely within the day.
