9 1 Itroductio NOTE This documet describes the istallatio procedures for the BaaPDM module for Baa IV, ad for the BaaPDM cliet. BaaPDM ca also be used as a idepedet product that does ot require additioal Baa software. If you are istallig BaaPDM as a module for use with Baa IV, the you will use the Create Database sessio i Baa to setup the required BaaPDM database. You will ot eed to set up a idepedet database. If you are istallig BaaPDM as a idepedet product, the you will eed to create a idepedet database. The istructios o how to create a idepedet database are provided i the appedix for each relatioal database maagemet system. Istallatio strategy BaaPDM istallatio ivolves differet groups of procedures, that relate: to istallatio of the BaaPDM module as a extesio of Baa IV, istallatio of the BaaPDM cliet o the cliet computer, ad the istallatio of a BaaPDM database, if required. 11 2 Istallig the BaaPDM module for Baa IV Overview The followig operatios are ivolved i the istallatio of the BaaPDM module for Baa IV. Uless otherwise idicated, all ecessary istructios are provided i this guide. This guide assumes that you have a fuctioig istallatio of Baa IV, ad that you also have kowledge of Baa Tools. To istall the BaaPDM module: Esure that the server eviromet is set up. This icludes database ad commuicatios protocol istallatio. Cofirm that Baa cotais all the required defiitios for BaaPDM. Istall BaaPDM from the istallatio media. Set up the eviromet for BaaPDM o the UNIX server or o the Widows NT server. Istall the BaaPDM module ad iitialize the BaaPDM database. Perform a iitial load of the Baa stadard items ad look-up tables ito the BaaPDM database. Istallig BaaPDM o the cliet workstatio. System requiremets The BaaPDM module is desiged to be istalled o a UNIX server or o a Widows NT server that already rus BAAN IV, with PC cliets that ru Widows 95 or Widows NT 4.0. Both server ad cliet computers must have sufficiet disk space to istall BaaPDM ad your database software. Specific iformatio is provided i the hardware ad software requiremets appedix. 2-1

12 Istallig the BaaPDM module for Baa IV BaaPDM server eviromet variables The followig eviromet variables must be set o the server for each BaaPDM user i the.logi file. You may eed to set additioal eviromet variables depedig o the database you have chose. Please see the Appedix for your database for more details. May of these variables will already exist, because they are stadard Baa eviromet variables. A example of the csh format to set eviromet variables: setev BSE <directory ame BSE BSE_TMP DISPLAY TERM Path The Baa mai directory. The Baa temporary files directory. This is a UNIX eviromet variable. Cosult your UNIX System Maager for iformatio o settig this variable. This is a UNIX eviromet variable. You may eed to set additioal eviromet variables to coform to the database you have chose. Please see the appedix that is compatible with your database for more details. Poits to the BaaPDM message directory Path to %BSE%\bi, %BSE%\baapdm\bi, ad to the database required directory: (for example, ORACLE_HOME\bi) Preparatory steps i Baa IV Startig Baa ad checkig user data 1 I UNIX, access Baa as a bsp user, by usig C-Shell O Widows NT, eter the superuser ame Baa to start BaaPDM. Note that you may use a differet user ame oly if the user has Admiistrator authorizatio o the NT server. The user must defie BaaPDM as the default compay, ad provide a user ame ad password (other tha Curret User) i the cliet setup for the bw.exe program. 2 Check that the bsp user is defied for the required package combiatio ad compay as follows: I the Baa Meu browser follow the sessio path: Baa IV Tools User Maagemet Geeral User Data Maitai User Data or Select File ad click Ru Program ad eter the sessio umber ttaad2100m000 I the Maitai User Data sessio, check that the details i the Package Combiatio, Compay, Startup Desktop Name fields are correct for your requiremets. 2-3

14 Istallig the BaaPDM module for Baa IV NOTE Audit Trail for Baa tables The BaaPDM module uses the Baa IV Audit Trail facility to maitai accurate data about items trasferred betwee BaaPDM ad Baa IV, which is vital for the correct operatio of the program. You must set up ad test a Audit Trail for these Baa tables, before you istall BaaPDM: tiitm001, tiitm011, tiitm012, ad tdpur021. The trasfer of item data betwee BaaPDM ad Baa will ot succeed if the Audit Trail is ot set up correctly. Set up a database with a Audit Trail To set up the required Audit Trail, you must use a database which has the Audit Trail check box i the Maitai Database Defiitios (ttaad4110m000) sessio. Figure 1, Maitai Databse Defiitios dialog box If you do ot have a predefied database that permits the Audit Trail optio, you must use this sessio to add a ew database, with the type appropriate to your system ad with the Audit Trail optio selected. 2-4

15 Istallig the BaaPDM module for Baa IV Assig tables to the Audit Trail database Check if the tables are assiged to a database with a Audit Trail. If they are assiged, you do ot eed to reassig them If they are ot assiged to a database with a Audit Trail, the follow the procedure below to assig them. To assig tables to the Audit Trail database Ru the Assig Tables to Databases (ttaad4111m000) sessio. From this sessio, you must select the Load Madatory Tables for Audit (ttaad4211s000) sessio. The scree will split ad appear as show i Figure 2. Figure 2, Load Madatory Tables for Audit Sessio dialog box I the Load Madatory Table for Audit (ttaad4211) table you must select each of the tables specified above by clickig the Special meu ad selectig the Load Madatory Tables for Audit optio. 2-5

16 Istallig the BaaPDM module for Baa IV You will be prompted for a database ame ad compay umber,if you work with a specific compay. Cotiue with the Assig Tables to Databases sessio ad perform the followig steps: I the Table Selectio field, select Specified Table I the Table Module field, select the ame of the table (tiitm001, tiitm011, tiitm012, tdpur021) Select All Compaies or eter a specific compay, as required by database. I the Database field, select the database with the Audit Trail that you created Select Covert to Ru time from the Baa Special meu ad ru the commad. Exit Baa completely ad restart. If ay of the tables do ot exist, you should perform the followig steps for each table: Select Edit, click Isert, ad choose the missig table Select File ad click Save Select Special ad click Covert to Ru time. Exit Baa completely ad restart. If you have created a ew database ad assiged tables to it, you will have to create a directory for the Audit File. Ru the Maitai Audit File Directories(ttaad4116m000) sessio. Check if a ew table selectio was created for the Audit File. If ot, add a ew directory as follows: I the Table Selectio field add All (other) tables. I the Path Name field eter the full path ame. After you have set up ad assiged the tables to a database with a Audit Trail optio, you must iitialize the Audit Trail. To iitialize the Audit Trails, use the appropriate Baa sessios to update each of the tables to create a Audit File i the Audit Directory. The appropriate sessios are Items (tiitm0101m000), Alterate Items (tiitm1101m000), Alterate Codes (tiitm0112m000) ad Alterate Suppliers (tdpur4150m000). If you do ot iitialize these tables you may ecouter error messages at a later stage. 2-6

Baa look-up tables Before you istall BaaPDM you must make sure that certai Baa look-up tables exist ad cotai some data. This must be doe eve if you do ot ited to use these look-up tables. If these tables do ot cotai data, you will ot be able to ru BaaPDM, although the trasfer of data from Baa to BaaPDM will succeed. There are two differet ways to check the tables: Access a sessio, such as,maiteace, that maages a particular table. Use the Geeral Table Maiteace (ttaad4100) table, described i the followig Additioal Notes sectio below. 2-7

20 Istallig the BaaPDM module for Baa IV Jobs ad exchage schemes BaaPDM uses some specific job ad exchage scheme ames. If you have ot previously worked with BaaPDM, your system may cotai jobs ad exchage schemes with the same ames. If so, these eed to be deleted before you istall BaaPDM. If you have previously worked with BaaPDM, you may skip this step. Use the Maitai Job Data (ttaad5100m000)sessio. (Tools Job Maagemet Maiteace Maitai Job Data) to check if these jobs exist Use the Maitai Exchage Groups (tuxch0151m000) sessio (Utilities Geerate Exchage Scheme Maitai Maitai Exchage Groups) to see if these exchage schemes exist.the jobs ad exchage schemes that must be deleted, if they exist, are: Jobs: EINIT, EDAILY, FINALI, IMPORT, PDMDEM, Exchage schemes: eallstit, eauditit, ecommot, elookupt, ealtitcs, ipdm2itm, eisrtit Operatios i the UNIX shell 1 Create a home directory for BaaPDM i Baa S home directory, by eterig the commad: mkdir $BSE/baapdm 2 To istall BaaPDM from a CD-ROM, you must first copy the file bpdm5.tar from the directory uix.tar to your UNIX server, ad the use a UNIX compressio utility to expad this file before you proceed. 3 This step should be performed oly by the bsp user to remai cosistet with the origial file permissios. Istall BaaPDM i the Baapdm directory. To load the product files, isert the supplied tape i the drive ad issue the followig commads. To chage the directory to the Baapdm directory, use the commad: cd $BSE/baapdm If you are usig a local tape device, use the commad: cpio -icvdb <local.device> 2-10

21 Istallig the BaaPDM module for Baa IV If you are usig a remote device, use the commad: remsh <system.ame> dd if=<remote.device> bs=64k cpio -icvdb To verify that the istallatio of the tape device was successful, refer to the istallatio cotets list. 4 If you istall BaaPDM from the FTP site, you must dowload to your baapdm home directory, ad expad it by usig the tar commad as follows: tar xvf <file ame> The tar commad opes the file to the curret directory. The list of the extracted files appears i Appedix F. 5 Copy the ico library to Baa with the followig commad: cp -R $BSE/baapdm/gif $BSE/ 6 Add the baapdm/bi directory to the path of the.logi or.cshrc files (if they are ot already preset). 7 To iitialize the ew path log off ad the log o, or issue oe of the followig commads: source.logi or source.cshrc Operatios o Widows NT 1 Create a home directory for BaaPDM i the Baa home directory. 2 From the BaaPDM CD-ROM, copy the bpdm5.exe file to the BaaPDM directory. This is a self-extractig file. Note that you ca also dowload the bpdm5.exe file from the ftp site. 3 Copy the icos library to Baa with the followig commad: xcopy r %BSE%\baapdm\gif %BSE%\ 4 Add the baapdm\bi directory to the path parameter i the System Variables list box. 2-11

22 Istallig the BaaPDM module for Baa IV Setup operatios i Baa Import Data Dictioary The first step to set up BaaPDM i Baa is to import the BaaPDM Data Dictioary. To import the Data Dictioary, you must first access the Import Data Dictioary (ttiex1285m000) sessio. Oe method of access is to click File ad the Ru Program ad the eter the sessio umber. The secod method is to follow the path: Tools Software Distributio Iteral Import/Export Import Data Dictioary. The Import Data Dictioary sessio is displayed i Figure 3. Figure 3, Import Data Dictioary dialog box Make the followig etries i this sessio: Path Sequetial Dumps: ${BSE}/baapdm/bapdm Path Rutime Dictioary: ${BSE}/applicatio Package VRC: leave blak Overwrite check box Yes 2-12

23 Istallig the BaaPDM module for Baa IV Select Cotiue to perform the import operatio. I the dialog box that is displayed select View o-lie for the import operatio, because this is a short operatio that does ot create a log file. If there is a error i the import operatio, it will ot be possible to complete the ext stage ad you must cotact a Baa system admiistrator. Add package combiatio The ext step to istall BaaPDM i Baa is to add the BaaPDM package combiatio. To add the BaaPDM package ba, first access the Maitai Packages by Package Combiatio ( ttaad1121m000) sessio either by selectig: File ad clickig Ru Program ad eterig the sessio umber, or by the followig path i the Baa Meu browser: Tools Applicatio Cofiguratio Maiteace Maitai Packages by Package Combiatio The Maitai Packages by Package Combiatio (ttaad1121m000) sessio is displayed i Figure 4. 24 Istallig the BaaPDM module for Baa IV I the Maitai Packages by Package Combiatio field, eter the package you are workig with. Select Edit ad click Isert, ad a list of available packages is displayed. Select the package ba from this list. Move to the Customer field, ad select the required customer. Click the Rebuild DD butto to rebuild the Data Dictioary. This process takes approximately 30 miutes. You must ow exit from Baa ad eter agai. Rebuild Data Dictioary error message Durig Rebuild Data Dictioary the followig message may appear: Ttadv00461, Uable to determie legth of fields with format %10.10A005. Access the Maitai Formats by Geeric Uits sessio. Follow the path Tools Applicatio Cofiguratio Maiteace Maitai Formats by Geeric Uits. Now type 005 i the Format Code field. Because Baa does ot use this field format, you ca cotiue without additioal chages. BaaPDM does ot use this ad therefore you may cotiue without makig ay chages. Defie access to BaaPDM meus If you already have BaaPDM istalled o your system you will ot eed to redefie access to the BaaPDM meus. You ca defie access to the BaaPDM meus i oe of two ways: 1 Defie a ico i the Desktop Maager I the Desktop Maager, select Edit ad click New Item. I the Desktop Program Item Properties sessio, make the followig etries: Program/sessio: mbapdm1000m0001 Item ame: BaaPDM Ico Group : desktopiv Ico : pdm Click OK to save these settigs. 2 Defie a optio i the Start up meu browser Iclude the mbapdm1000m0001 submeu withi your Startup meu. This requires kowledge of meu maiteace i Baa Tools. 2-14

25 Istallig the BaaPDM module for Baa IV BaaPDM iitializatio The ext stage i the istallatio procedure ivolves iitializig BaaPDM. These tasks are ru from the BaaPDM meu browser. Iitializatio otes Please read the followig otes about the iitializatio stage before you proceed: Default compay Make sure that the compay you wat to set up to work with BaaPDM is the curret (default) Baa compay for the user. You ca defie the curret Baa compay i the Maitai User Data (ttaad2100m000)sessio. You must the use the Covert to Rutime optio, ad the restart Baa. Iitializatio tasks There are three tasks ivolved i iitializatio, 1 Load PDM tables. 2 Create the PDM database 3 Iitload the PDM tables. Whe you ru the Iitializatio procedure,you may be asked for a password, or you may fid that some sessios are locked. The followig sectio clarifies what to do if this occurs. BaaPDM Utilities password If BaaPDM has bee istalled previously o your system, eve if this was a icomplete or usuccessful istallatio, you will be prompted for the BaaPDM Password. To set password access, select: BaaPDM Utilities Chage BaaPDM Utilities password. You must specify the ew password. Press the TAB key to move betwee fields, click Edit ad select Save to approve the ew password. 2-15

If you eded your last sessio without exitig properly, you may receive the message show i Figure 5 idicatig that the system is still locked. To remove the locks, eter the Remove Applicatio Locks (ttstpdellocks)sessio by followig the path Tools Database Miscellaeous Remove Applicatios Locks. Now highlight the sessio that brought up the locked message. Press Delete. The system lock is ow removed. The IitLoad - oe step optio ca be used for first-time istallatio, or for the preparatio of a ew Baa compay to work with ew BaaPDM databases. Create database The Create PDM Database sessio sets up the database for BaaPDM accordig to the field values you eter i the sessio. These values may vary i accordace with the relatioal database maagemet system (RDBMS) you use. Whe you use the Create PDM Database sessio, you do ot eed to set up a BaaPDM database whe you istall the BaaPDM cliet program o your Widows cliet workstatio. This sessio is iteral ad does ot require ay iput from the user. Defie the Utilities password Certai Utilities fuctios will ot operate if a BaaPDM Utilities password has ot bee defied. If you have previously istalled BaaPDM, you may have bee prompted to eter or chage your password,as explaied earlier i this chapter. If you have ot set the BaaPDM Utilities password, you must do so ow. I the Chage BaaPDM Utilities Password (sessio bapdm0104m005) sessio, type a password ito the field provided. Press the TAB key to move betwee fields. Click Edit ad select Save to approve the ew password. BaaPDM Licese settigs You must have a valid BaaPDM licese to work with ay database. This applies to a database created through the Create PDM Database sessio for use with Baa IV, ad to a database created from a BaaPDM Widows cliet, for idepedet operatio. The BaaPDM licese procedure must be ru from a Widows cliet computer. The licese procedure varies slightly for differet RDBMS programs. For more details, please see the BaaPDM licese sectio i the appedix that is compatible with your database. BaaPDM module istallatio otes New Baa compay with existig BaaPDM database If you prepare a ew Baa compay to fuctio with a existig BaaPDM database, you must first perform a backup. After the backup, perform the followig steps: 1 Select the Load BaaPDM Tables optio from the Iitializatio BaaPDM - i Steps meu. 2 Select the Restore optio from the Utilities meu to restore the table that was backed up earlier. 2-24

Backup tables sessio The Baa meu Backup BaaPDM Tables optio activates a process that creates a backup directory ( by default,work directory/xch_back ) ad writes the cotets of the BaaPDM tables ito dump files i this directory. If a directory with this ame already exists, it is deleted first. The Baa meu Restore BaaPDM Tables optio is used to restore BaaPDM database tables by loadig data from dump files that were created by a previous backup. Note o compay umber Some of the files ad directories that support the BaaPDM package use the Baa compay umber as part of their ame, as is idicated i the Uistall Guide as <compay_umber> You must substitute your three digit Baa compay umber as required. Note o Exchage Schemes This Uistall guide icludes istructios to delete Baa Exchage Schemes. Exchage Schemes may be used i your orgaizatio with other modules i Baa that are ot related to BaaPDM. You must take care ot to delete ay Exchage Schemes that you eed for other modules. Uistall procedure Deletig files ad directories i UNIX Durig the Uistall, you have to delete all the stadard directories or <Compay_Number> directories that are uder the directories that are listed i the followig steps. 1 I your UNIX shell, to select the BaaPDM home directory use the commad: cd $BSE/baapdm 2 Erase the bi<compay_umber> file. This file is i the Baapdm directory. 3-1

43 4 BaaPDM cliet istallatio Overview There are two aspects of BaaPDM cliet istallatio: BaaPDM program istallatio Database istallatio If you use the BaaPDM module of Baa, you use the Create PDM sessio i Baa to istall the database for BaaPDM. Therefore, you do ot eed to istall a database from the Widows cliet. If you eed to istall a database, you must select Custom Istallatio durig the istallatio procedure, ad the select the Database Maagemet optio. Before you start to istall BaaPDM o your Widows cliet computer,you must make sure that your database software is properly istalled ad operates correctly. This is icludes ay commuicatio utilities you may eed. Read the appedix for your RDBMS program for more detailed iformatio. Please ote that after you fiish the BaaPDM setup you must shut dow your computer ad restart it before you ru BaaPDM. You will also eed to complete the BaaPDM Licese procedure which is described i the Appedix for your database before you ca ru BaaPDM. BaaPDM istallatio procedure Istallatio from the server istallatio kit 1 Use ftp to trasfer the file $BSE/baapdm/msw_cliet/b_pdm_msw.exe to a temporary directory o your Widows PC. The istallatio procedure allows you to choose betwee a compact istallatio, which istalls oly the BaaPDM product, ad a custom istallatio, which allows you to istall additioal compoets. The Select Istallatio Compoets widow is show i Figure 24. The compoets that are available for istallatio are: BaaPDM 5 The BaaPDM widows cliet program. This must be istalled for all users. DB Maiteace The BaaPDM Database Maiteace program. This is oly required by users who eed to maitai idepedet databases for BaaPDM (For example, the system admiistrator, or the geeral DBA). Workflow Daemo This is oly required o oe cliet computer i each workgroup. Geerally, this is the same computer that has the Vault Server istalled. Full details o usig the Workflow Daemo are give i the BaaPDM DBA Guide. Local Tables This optio copies some of the BaaPDM s system tables to your local computer to improve system performace. For more details, see the followig Local tables optio sectio. Vault Server This optio istalls the BaaPDM Vault Server. This is oly required o selected workstatios. For more details see the followig BaaPDM Vault Server sectio. Report Geerator This is the BaaPDM Report Geerator program. This must be istalled for all users who wat to use reports. For more details see the Reports Geerator chapter i the BaaPDM User s Guide. 4-2

45 BaaPDM cliet istallatio User Documets You may choose to copy Adobe Acrobat (*.PDF) versios of the BaaPDM Istallatio guide, User's guide ad DBA guide to your local disk. Acrobat Reader You may choose to copy the Adobe Acrobat Reader istallatio program (a self-extractig executable file) to your local disk. The versio provided is for Widows 32-bit systems. Other platform versios of the Acrobat Reader are available free of charge from the Adobe Corporatio Web site ( BaaPDM Vault Server The Vault Server is a automatic mechaism for restrictig access to released files. Whe the Vault Server is operatig you ca oly access released files through the BaaPDM Check Out procedure. You must istall the Vault Server oly o the computer where your project's Release area ad Cotrolled Area are defied. For details of the Release ad Cotrolled Areas, please see the Projects sectio of Chapter 5, i the BaaPDM DBA Guide. Whe you istall the Vault Server, you must remember to add the ame of the Vault Server Host computer to the Hosts list for your project i BaaPDM, ad to defie the physical paths to the Cotrolled ad Release directories i the Areas list. Widows NT supports the Vault Server. Figure 19 shows the Vault Server defied as a service uder Widows NT. The Vault Server is ot supported i Widows

The local admiistrator must exist o the NT host. If the local admistrator does ot exist, the Vault Server will fail. A user i the admiistrator group caot take the place of the local adimiistrator. The domai admistrator caot be the local admistrator uless the Widows NT istallatio is for a server. If you istall the Vault Server o a Widows NT computer this machie must have a NTFS disk. I your Widows NT system,make the Cotrolled area a shared directory ad grat Full Cotrol access to Everyoe. The Released area directory is ot be shared. Durig the istallatio procedure, you will be prompted to select a commuicatios protocol for the Vault Server (see Figure 25). You may select from TCP/IP, Named Pipes or SPX. If you do ot kow the correct protocol for your system, cosult your local system admiistrator. 4-4

If you select the Vault Server as a istallatio compoet, you will be prompted for the local admiistrator password for the host computer (see Figure 26). After istallatio, the Vault Server service will appear as VSService uder Services o your Widows NT Cotrol Pael. For iformatio o istallio of the Vault Server o a UNIX computer, see the sectio i chapter 5, Istallig the Vault Server o a UNIX computer. Local tables optio You ca improve the performace of BaaPDM over a Wide Area Network (WAN) if you copy some of the database tables to files o each local workstatio. These are tables that are ot affected whe BaaPDM is ru. If you eed data from oe of these tables, BaaPDM will retrieve the data directly from the locally-held files, ad ot from the database. You ca select the Local Tables optio durig istallatio, as show i the Select Istallatio Compoets dialog box, Figure 24. Whe you select this optio, BaaPDM will do the followig: Create a directory for the local tables (BaaPDM_Home\loc_tab\) Copy the tables to the local directory Add a eviromet variable that poits to the local tables directory. set BPDM_LTB_PATH=c:\bpdm\loc_tab\ If this eviromet variable is ot set, BaaPDM cotiues to take all the iformatio it eeds from the database. If you do ot create the local tables durig system istallatio you ca create them maually at a later date. To create local tables maually 1 Ope a Commad prompt ad avigate to your BaaPDM_Home directory. 2 Ru the commad CREATE_LTB with the database ame. For example c:\baapdm513\create_ltb user/password@host Oce you have created the local table files, you ca copy them from oe computer to aother. I this way, a system admiistrator ca create a set of local table files ad distribute them to all users. 4-5

We recommed that you close all other Widows applicatios before you istall BaaPDM. If you are prompted for a database coectio strig, eter the database ame ad password, ad the server ame or alias preceded by symbol. If the database exists o your computer, you do ot eed to add the server ame or alias. A example of a coectio strig is as follows: database/password@my_server The use of the baapdm.cfg file is the recommeded method to coect to a database. The cotets of this file are read by certai BaaPDM extesio programs, such as the Report Geerator program. If you eed to coect to a differet database, you ca delete or reame the baapdm.cfg file ad you will the be prompted agai for a ew database coectio strig. I earlier versios of BaaPDM, the baa pdm.cfg file was kow as the mata.cfg file BaaPDM default user If you istall BaaPDM the program creates a default user. The default user ame is system ad the password is blak. This default user ca be used for your first log o to BaaPDM. The default user is defied as a Geeral DBA, ad ca add ad delete both users ad projects i BaaPDM. For more iformatio about the Geeral DBA, see the BaaPDM DBA Guide. Assig a password to the default user, or create a ew Geeral DBA user ad delete the default user, as soo as possible after you istall BaaPDM to maitai the security of your system. 4-18

61 BaaPDM cliet istallatio Report Geerator istallatio ad setup System requiremets The BaaPDM Report Geerator program itroduced i BaaPDM versio makes use of the ODBC programmig iterface. You must have the appropriate 32-bit ODBC driver for your database such as, Oracle or Iformix, istalled o your computer before you ru the BaaPDM reports program. Supported ODBC drivers are as follows: Oracle ODBC Driver: Oracle 7.3 driver Versio Iformix ODBC Driver: Iformix CLI TC2 The BaaPDM Report Geerator applicatio is writte i Microsoft Visual Basic 5.0, Service Pack 2, ad uses Seagate Corporatios Crystal Reports 4.2. If you wish to customize your copy of the BaaPDM reports geerator program, you will eed the appropriate software developer s kits for these programs. Please ote that completed reports may use a large amout of disk space. For example, a report of 500,000 records requires approximately 200MB of space o your hard disk. The reports are created i the \reports\localdb\ sub-directory of your BaaPDM home directory. ODBC setup You must set up the ODBC driver for your database i order to ru the Report Geerator. Please see the appropriate appedix that is compatible with your database for details of ODBC cofiguratio for use with the Report Geerator. Report Geerator istallatio You must choose the Custom Istallatio optio whe you ru the BaaPDM Istallatio program. I the Custom Istallatio widow select the Report Geerator optio. If you do ot select this optio, you will ot be able to ru the Report Geerator. After the istallatio of BaaPDM is completed the istallatio of the BaaPDM Reports system begis automatically. If the reports istallatio program fids older versios of files o your system, you will be prompted to reboot your system. If you eed to reboot, you should restart the BaaPDM istallatio program ad select oly the Sample Reports optio from the Custom Istallatio. Eter No to the Delete old directory prompt. 4-19

Madatory test istallatio The istallatio of the BaaPDM Report Geerator may cause istability i other Microsoft applicatios that are istalled i your orgaizatio, particularly those developed i previous versios of Visual Basic. You should perform a test istallatio of the BaaPDM Report Geerator o oe represetative workstatio, to test the compatibility of the BaaPDM Report Geerator istallatio with the other programs that you regularly use After you istall the BaaPDM Report Geerator applicatio o a represetative machie, you must verify that a selectio of BaaPDM reports prits as expected, ad that all other Microsoft applicatios that you regularly use ru satisfactorily, before you istall the BaaPDM Report Geerator o all your workstatios. Ruig reports the first time To ru the Reports Geerator program, select the BaaPDM Item List widow or Documet List widow from the Mai meu. Select Report Geerator from the File meu. If a File does ot exist error message is displayed, you should reistall the Report Geerator from the BaaPDM istallatio program. Eter No to the Delete old directory prompt. Selectig a DSN for the Report Geerator program The first time that you ru the Report Geerator, you may be prompted for your ODBC Data Source Name (DSN). This ca occur if you have moved the Report Geerator directories from their default locatio. Hardware requiremets These hardware requiremets must be met before you set up BaaPDM: 100 MB of hard disk to istall the BaaPDM5 DBspace. To create the BaaPDM5 DBspace, use the ospaces utility, as described i the Iformix OLie Workgroup Server Admiistrator s Guide, chapter MB for the ROOT DBS. This is set up by default durig the Iformix istallatio program. NOTE Istallig BaaPDM o the Iformix server Iformix Server must be istalled ad ruig before BaaPDM is istalled. You do ot eed to make ay special adjustmets to the default settigs for Iformix Server to istall BaaPDM. It is strogly recommeded that you istall Iformix i raw device mode. Create the database I order to create a BaaPDM stadaloe database o Iformix, you caot use the BaaPDM DB Maiteace utility, but this compoet must be istalled o your system (from the Custom istallatio optios). 7-2

Creatig a database Deletig a database Check space for all dbspaces Exit 2 To create a database, select (Creatig a Database), from the meu. The Create database meu is displayed. You have two optios i which to defie a database ad dbspace: Use the default ame for the database ad dbspace (BaaPDM5, BaaPDM5). Create a ew database ad put it i a differet dbspace. To use the default ame for the database ad dbspace (BaaPDM5, BaaPDM5), select optio 1 from the Create meu. To create a ew database, select optio 2. The database utility will prompt you for a database ame. Type the ame of the ew database. The legth of the ame must ot exceed more tha 18 characters. Type the dbspace ame. If you are specifyig a differet dbspace tha the default, make sure that the dbspace already exists i the system. To check that the dbspace exists, select optio 3 from the Mai meu. 3 Press ENTER ad the database is created. If the database was created successfully, the followig message is displayed: Database Database Name was created successfully. If the database creatio was usuccessful a error message is displayed. For example: Error umber -349 has occurred durig the database creatio. Press ENTER ad you retur to the Mai meu. To check the error message refer to the Iformix Fid Error Message Utility. 7-3

The coectio to the database server is doe through user defiitios of the operatig system, as i UNIX or Widows NT. Therefore, to defie a ew Iformix user, you must create a ew user o the operatig system. All users that are defied i the Iformix group will automatically receive Iformix superuser permissio. If you do ot wat the user to have Iformix superuser permissio, you must assig them to a differet group. Istall the Setet 32 cliet At every cliet statio you must istall Setet Place the istallatio disk ito the disk drive. 2 Ru istall, ad follow the istructios o the scree. After the istallatio is complete set the followig variables: Eviromet tab Check that INFORMIXDIR has bee set to the correct directory. Check that INFORMIXSERVER has bee set to the correct server ame. Server iformatio tab Check that the Iformix server parameter has bee set to the correct Iformix server ame. Check that the host ame has bee set to the correct server host ame. The protocol is set automatically by the istallatio program. Check that the service ame appears i the service file i the operatig system service file. If it does ot appear, add it. The ODBC 32-bit Admiistrator Program should be available i your Iformix program group. Therefore, you should periodically check the amout of space available. This ca be doe i two ways, either by usig the dba_util utility, or by usig the ostat utility. Usig the dba_util: 1 I Widows 95, select Ru from the Start meu,. I Widows 3.11, select File ad click Ru. from the program maager. Type i the commad lie dba-util. The Mai meu scree appears. From the mai meu select optio 3 (check free space for all dbspaces). This produces a list that specifys the followig iformatio: The total size i pages for each dbspace. I additio, you must ru the update statistics utility ( up_stat ) to update the system catalogue after istallig BaaPDM or loadig data with the loaddb utility. It is advisable to perform ru the up_stat utility every day. If this process is ot ru every day the database performace might be affected. Ru these utilities from the commad lie. For example: up_stat <databaseame> or daily <databaseame> where: databaseame is the ame of the BaaPDM database you have defied It is advisable to ru these utilities by meas of a operatig system daemo for example, usig crotab with UNIX or AT batch files with Widows NT. The user must have maximum permissios for the BaaPDM database, which must be set as the default database for this user. To create a ew user, perform the followig steps: 1 From the Folder Pae, select the Logis folder ad click the New Logis ico from the SQL Server toolbar.
