2 Teaching in the Netherlands A winter Course on Dutch Culture and Education Nijmegen, the Netherlands January 10th January 31 st 2014 Always wondered if European kids are any different or what teaching at a Montessori school in Holland would be like? Would you like to experience the variety of schools the Dutch offer their children? Are you ready to teach Dutch children? Always wanted to see Europe from within? Looking forward to meeting people in the Netherlands? Fancy walking through the busy streets of Amsterd and stopping for a coffee in a grand café. What about checking out Rembrandt at the Rijksmuseum and comparing notes on Mona Lisa at the Louvre? This Winter Course may just be the thing for you! In co-operation with our partner universities overseas, the Faculty of Education at HAN- University of Applied Sciences, offers a three-week Winter Course for (teacher) education students of their partners in Nijmegen in January The Winter Course offers education students the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of Dutch Education, to meet their Dutch counterparts, visit a variety of Dutch schools, teach Dutch children, and learn about educational concerns in the context of a Western European country.

Jan 31st Am shuttle service to Schiphol (Amsterd Airport) Practical Matters Arrival Participants should arrive on Friday January 10th around 1. A pick-up service will leave at 2 from Amsterd Schiphol Airport. Students who arrive earlier or later will have to make their own arrangements for getting to Nijmegen by train (ca. 90 mins from Schiphol or Amsterd; trains run until about midnight). Accommodation Participants will be accommodated at the Bungalow Park De Zevenheuvelen. This holiday wellness bungalow park is located just 5 miles from the centre of Nijmegen (160,000 pop.) in a small village called Groesbeek (20,000 pop). At the park you will be accommodated in a modern bungalow, which sleeps six-eight people in double rooms. Accommodation is selfcatering with a fully equipped kitchen. You will have to organise and cook meals ongst yourselves. Shops and supermarkets are within walking distance. Bed-linen is provided, but please bring your own set of towels. Free wireless internet is available in each bungalow. You will have easy access to Nijmegen by frequent bus service (every 20 minutes). If you like, you can check out this bungalow park at City Trips The progrme includes day-trips and a guided tour to Dutch towns like Delft, The Hague and Amsterd. During the weekends (or even during the evenings) students can make their own choices to visit other places. Nijmegen has excellent train connections with Amsterd (80 mins), Brussels (150 mins), Cologne (90 mins), Berlin (240 mins). A trip to Paris is already included in the progrme.

5 Weekend to Paris Included in the progrme is a short weekend trip to Paris. The journey by coach will take 6 hours. You will be accommodated in low-cost hotels. Excursions to the main sights of Paris (Tour Eiffel, Louvre, Sacré Coeur) will be organised. Cost for hotel and transportation are included in the progrme fee. Meals, local transportation (metro) and entrance fees for the different venues are not included. HAN University of Applied Sciences Nijmegen Cpus The seminars are hosted at the Nijmegen cpus of Hogeschool van Arnhem en Nijmegen. Students will be able to use internet and library facilities. The various cpus buildings offer healthy cafeteria food at reasonable prices. Check out the facilities in Nijmegen at Credits and Tuition Course credits are set and awarded by the home university in consultation with HAN University of Applied Sciences. Completion of the 3-week summer course, including prereading and assignments, will award 3 US credits. The home institution may possibly award more credits when embedded in home courses or independent study. Tuition is charged by and paid to the home institution. Costs The progrme fee is 1,480 per student on the basis of exchange, and 2,460 including tuition fee. This fee includes: Self-catering accommodation in shared bungalows in Groesbeek Local transportation to and from Nijmegen cpus on weekdays Field trip to the West of Holland with overnight stay in The Hague /Amsterd Day trips to museums including entrance fees Weekend trip to Paris (includes only hotel & roundtrip) Insurance (liability, travel insurance, health) Transfers to/from Schiphol Airport to the accommodation Naturally students will have additional costs: Airfare to the Netherlands All meals, drinks, free time, going out, souvenirs etc. Optional pre- or post-course travelling through Europe Costs beyond the progrme

6 Registration Registration for the Teaching in the Netherlands, a Summer Course on Dutch Culture and Education will go through the International Office of your home institution. Your registration with HAN University of Applied Sciences should be in by October 1 st 2013 at the very latest. Registration can only be accepted if a registration fee has been paid to your home institution. Your registration is final on October 15 th The course can accommodate up to 20 participants. A minimum number of 12 participants is required to run the course; cancellation of the course by the organisers - for lack of recruitment - is possible until October 15th. Hence flights to Amsterd should not be booked before this date! Information See your local International Office for more information.
