Choose Tourism & Events... The tourism and events management industries are growing globally in both size and dominance. Career opportunities are extensive for individuals with the knowledge and capabilities to manage the various aspects of this international industry. In the UK, the sector is the 3rd largest employer, supporting 3.1 million jobs, over 262,000 small and medium sized enterprises and contributing 127 billion to the economy each year. Spending in the UK s tourism economy is forecast to reach 173 billion in 2020 and the sector is predicted to be worth a staggering 235 billion by the year In line with increases in spending, employment opportunities are also set to grow with the potential for 622,500 more tourism jobs to be created by 2025.* Our innovative Career Degree has been specifically designed to meet the diverse challenges of the sector and to equip aspiring tourism and events managers with the professional and academic skills sought after by today s employers. It focuses on political, economic and social impacts of the industry and highlights how and why tourism and events organisations are managed differently. Many of our graduates chose to top-up their Foundation Degree to a full Honours degree by applying to either the final year, or work placement year (ie second year), of the following degrees at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) in Preston: BA (Hons) in Tourism BA (Hons) in Events If you wish to progress to an alternative university, you are strongly advised to research the entry qualifications required for your chosen course prior to enrolling at Runshaw College. Duration Full-time (2 days per week) over 2 years at Runshaw s Euxton Lane Campus in Chorley. Accreditation Approved and awarded by Attraction museums, parks, galleries, culture/heritage sites, theme parks Marketing & Promotions Transport Operations road, air, rail, sea.

As part of your degree you will undertake a professional work placement module and work on projects/ live employer briefs in settings such as Cranage Hall (Cheshire), Cruise 118.com, Destinology and Marriott Hotels. specialists from companies including Cruise118.com, Bartle Hall Hotel (Preston) and Avios (the UK travel reward programme). You will have the opportunity to join an overseas study tour which will be partly subsidised by Runshaw College. In previous years, overseas tours have been to Kenya and the University of Central Lancashire s Cyprus Campus. You will also participate in up to 3 local/regional trips each year, such as visits to Cranage Hall Hotel in Cheshire to review their approaches to marketing. There will be no fees associated with local/regional visits, but you may be expected to meet at a local venue rather than College and will be responsible for any personal spending. On occasions additional non-compulsory visits are arranged at the request of students and for these, additional costs may be payable. guest speaker visits and strong links with industry to further develop your knowledge of the world of tourism and events management. At the end of her first year, Lisa secured a position working front of house at the popular Bartle Hall Hotel in Preston. After a series of promotions, Lisa is now the venue s Events Manager. I never imagined that within such a short space of time I could achieve what I set out to achieve! I have a genuine passion for co-ordinating events and this is why I chose to study the Foundation Degree in Tourism & Events at Runshaw College. The course really helped me gain confidence and knowledge, plus the compact timetable meant that I could work as well as study, which was a huge benefit for me in pursuing my career. Moving on...
