1 Foundation Degree Criminology & Criminal Justice
2 Choose Criminology & Criminal Justice Why do people commit crime? How should society deal with offenders? How can crime be prevented? These fascinating social and political questions are just some of the issues investigated by criminology and criminal justice experts. Careers Employment prospects are varied and the transferable skills developed on this degree open up career opportunities in a diverse range of settings. Many criminology and criminal justice graduates pursue careers in crime prevention; including work with offenders and potential offenders, social inclusion and law enforcement. Opportunities also exist in crime analysis and research, within charities and in the private sector. Below is just a small sample of the career opportunities available. Career Degrees Our Foundation Degree in Criminology & Criminal Justice is part of Runshaw College s suite of Career Degrees, designed to help our graduates stand out from the crowd in today s competitive job market. Career Degrees combine a prestigious Foundation Degree validated by the University of (UCLan), with additional qualifications and employability skills to ensure you re ahead of the game when looking for your first graduate job! As society s interest in crime grows, new areas for criminological investigation are continually evolving and career opportunities related to understanding, preventing and controlling crime are on the increase. In England & Wales alone the National Offender Management Service (NOMS) employs more than 43,000 people, overseeing offender management, prisons and probation. HM Courts & Tribunals Service employs almost 18,000 staff operating from around 500 locations. It handles over 2 million criminal cases, 1.8 million civil claims, more than 150,000 family law disputes and almost 800,000 tribunal cases annually. The home office employs over 27,000 staff, leading on UK immigration, drugs policy and counter-terrorism.* Coupled with traditional criminal justice agencies such as the police, probation and prison service, career opportunities in the sector are diverse. Our innovative Career Degree offers those interested in issues of how crime is defined, perceived as a problem and managed in modern society, an opportunity to undertake a comprehensive study of this area. It looks at the widespread and growing interest in crime, the nature of crime in society, theories of crime and the nature/function of the main criminal justice agencies. *Sources: Ministry of Justice NOMS Workforce Statistics Bulletin (June 2015); Office for National Statistics; Government Statistics; Home Office. Profile Thomas Almond Dale Spence Dale completed a BTEC National Diploma in Public Services at Runshaw Sixth Form after which his tutors recommended progressing to the BA (Hons) in Criminology & Criminal Justice at Runshaw College. I chose to study the degree at Runshaw as I knew the tutors, it was close to home and I wanted the extra support of studying the first year of the degree at the College. I had also enjoyed the Criminal Justice module in the BTEC National Diploma in Public Services, so I knew I would enjoy the subject. Kathy Forgione Hema Limbachia Etihad Stadium, Manchester Berlin, Germany Runshaw is a great place to start your degree, the support is excellent. The teachers are helpful and always there to give advice and direction in order for you to achieve your best.
