2 BA (Hons) International Finance and Accounting prepares students for a range of exciting and rewarding careers. It is primarily geared to those who want to build a successful career in the finance industry. This one year programme is aimed at students who already hold a Level 5 qualification in a related field. Typically the student would hold a qualification such as a Higher National Diploma (HND), Foundation Degree or equivalent and will be looking at joining the BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance for International Business (Top-Up), which is effectively the third year of a UK degree programme. BA (Hons) International Finance and Accounting prepares students for a range of exciting and rewarding careers. It is primarily geared to those who want to build a successful career in the finance industry and graduates from this programme usually go on to work as Financial Advisers, Finance Managers, Management Accountants, and Financial Analysts or in other positions within the industry. Work experience at Coventry University London Campus can be undertaken in a variety of ways; an internship, business simulation project, consulting project, entrepreneurship project and for some programmes, the opportunity to work or study abroad. As an alternative to completing an internship or consulting project, students can opt to complete a dissertation write-up. 4 Programme Structure BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance for International Business (Top-up) Term 1 10 weeks Management Accounting for Business Decisions Developing Business Skills Term 2 10 weeks International Finance Audit and Internal Control Business Research Methods Term 3 10 weeks Core Modules Financial Management This is a normal course structure and may be subject to change. Management Accounting for Business Decisions In this introductory module, students can consolidate their prior learning and can gain an understanding of the benefits and limitations of Management Accounting techniques. In addition, they will be taught about the behavioural aspects of Managerial Accounting in areas such as transfer pricing, divisional performance and business performance management. The module will build on previous studies and can help develop the students problemsolving and critical thinking abilities. Developing Business Skills The transition into learning at a new level poses all students a differing level of challenge. The aim of this module is to ensure that students have a clear understanding of the requirements of undergraduate study in their Top-Up year and provide students with the chance to develop a range of skills that will enable them to navigate their programme of study and their future careers with the greatest chance of success. The module presents an opportunity for personal evaluation to identify individual strengths and weaknesses. Students will have the chance to develop skills required for successful academic study and for a successful employment search within a supportive and culturally sensitive environment. The module concludes with the consideration of the student s career options following the completion of their undergraduate study. Students will be encouraged to explore their potential for a range of routes including postgraduate study and entrepreneurship. International Finance The aim of this module is to provide students with an understanding of the international dimension of finance and how this impacts upon business. By the end of this module students should appreciate the workings and operation of currency derivatives markets, the international money and capital markets and the principles of currency risk management. The subject matter of the module includes study of currency markets, international parity conditions, international money and capital markets, the nature and importance of currency risk and strategies for managing currency risk, including the application of derivatives to manage such risks. Audit and Internal Control In this module, students will have the opportunity to apply their previous learning to evaluate internal control risks and organisational responses, as well as audit processes and their application in the context of the external regulatory framework in different international settings. Business Research Method This module is aimed at providing students with an understanding of business research methodology and a range of research skills required to carry out a business research project. It looks at the process of formulating and clarifying the research topic; conducting critical review of the literature to developing a thorough understanding of previous research that relates to the research question(s) and objectives, and touches on tools/techniques of data collection and analysis. The business research method sets the tone and helps prepare a guide for engagement in a bigger business research project. Financial Management Financial management uses accounting information for making strategic recommendations and decisions. The objective of this module is to familiarise the student with the major strands of financial management theory and to apply the theory to real world applications. All major areas of financial management will be covered including fixed and working capital asset management, capital investment, the financing of the company, the valuation of companies and the measurement and evaluation of performance in financial terms. Underlying the entire module will be the relationship between risk and the rate of return.

English requirements Students whose first language is not English are required to have IELTS 6.5 or equivalent. Start dates September and January How will the programme be taught? In a typical week students can expect to attend up to 12 hours of Knowledgecasts (lectures) and seminars. Knowledgecasts last for up to one hour and large-group seminars for two hours. Students will work with their Programme Leaders to support and guide their personal and professional development over the year. Each term, students will be supported by a Module Leader and Teaching Fellows in each of their modules. Regular consultations with a Personal Supervisor during business research. Peer interaction and collaboration via Coventry University London Campus online learning platform. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in our Mentoring Programme, where an existing student will act as a mentor to help others get started at the London Campus. How will I be assessed? Learning will be assessed using a combination of exams and coursework such as essays, reports, presentations, simulations, workshop activities, and others. Some assessments are taken as group work. With all our assessments we make sure that students not only demonstrate subject knowledge but also develop professional skills such as professional report writing, structuring a logical argument, analysing data or making a compelling presentation. On successful graduation from this programme, students should: have developed critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills; make improvements in accounting and finance practice.
