2 Career Degrees Our Foundation Degree in Public Services, Prisons & Law Enforcement is part of Runshaw College s suite of Career Degrees, designed to help our graduates stand out from the crowd in today s competitive job market. Career Degrees combine a prestigious Foundation Degree validated by the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan), with additional qualifications and employability skills to ensure you re ahead of the game when looking for your first graduate job! Choose Public Services, Prisons & Law Enforcement If you re looking for a highly rewarding career in a dynamic environment look no further than public services, prisons and law enforcement! Britain s communities are diverse, growing and made up of people with differing needs, meaning opportunities within the sector are vast and varied. In the UK alone, the army, navy and RAF employ almost 195,700 service personnel and 65,000 civilians. The 43 police forces of England and Wales employ over 207,000 police officers, support staff and Community Support Officers, in addition to 16,101 special constables. There are 418 local councils spending almost 99 billion serving their communities and employing over 2 million people, making Local Government one of the UK s largest employers. The civil service employs almost half a million people in departments and agencies throughout the UK, while in England and Wales the prison service is responsible for 130 prisons and employs around 44,000 staff.* There is no doubt that opportunities are diverse for anyone interested in pursuing a career in these important sectors of our community. Our innovative Career Degree in Public Services, Prisons & Law Enforcement has been designed to ensure you acquire the employability skills and knowledge required for a career in the sector. It combines theory, additional qualifications and practical work experience to ensure you are equipped with the knowledge and expertise to succeed in this area at supervisory or management level. *Sources: LGiU (Local Government Information Unit); House of Commons Library: Defence Personnel Statistics; Home Office Statistics; Police Workforce England & Wales (31 March 2015); Office for National Statistics; Government Statistics.
