3 Historical Overview TPO Thermoplastic Polyolefin In the early 80 s the heat welded roofing market was mostly PVC and Hypalon TPOreplaced PVC in the in Auto Industry in the 80 s Roofing installations as early as 1989 Up to 1993 manufacturers modified the membrane to get the best formulation Brominated membranes where replaced with non- halogenated membranes for flame retardants

15 TPO ADVANTAGES TPO not adversely affected by most common chemicals found in roof environment TPO can be used on restaurants, airports and other manufacturing facilities TPO is not degraded by jet exhaust soot or deicing fluids TPO has no plasticizer plasticizers can be extracted by fluids TPO, like all Heat Welded membranes, is degraded by long term direct contact with liquid jet fuel & aviation gas
