2 22138VIC Certificate II in Plumbing (Preapprenticeship) A plumbing pre-apprenticeship will introduce you to the plumbing industry and make you more attractive to prospective employers. By completing a pre-apprenticeship you will gain: - Industry knowledge - Workplace exposure - Hands-on experience An application and interview based selection process is involved. Commencing Feb 17 Full time for 13 weeks (with a break for Easter) PICAC Contact PICAC to register your interest in this course and find out if you are eligible for a government funded position. *This course is delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth funding. Asbestos removal Class A Three day program designed to provide knowledge and practical skills for the safe removal of friable asbestos containing material. It covers Part 4.3 of the OHS Regulations and would meet the needs of removal personnel and supervisors to competently remove friable asbestos. Note: This program does not result in a licence to remove asbestos or asbestos containing materials. Cheques payable to PICAC 8.00am 4.30pm for three days Feb Apr 1 3 Jun 2 4 PICAC 0* $629 $740 Backflow prevention Commission and maintain backflow prevention devices Three day program designed to train plumbers in the commissioning, testing and repairing of backflow prevention devices. Participants must hold water supply registration and/or licence. for three days Feb Mar Apr May Jun 3 5 PICAC 0* $570 $640 Disconnect/reconnect fixed wire electrical systems Seven day course recommended for plumbers who are required to carry out electrical work relating to low voltage fixed electrical appliances associated with their plumbing work. It covers the skills and knowledge required to safely isolate and disconnect electrical appliances then reconnect and test appliances. This course does not cover rectifying faults. The units addressed in this course are; UEENEEP012A (composite appliances/ air conditioners) UEENEEP014A (water heaters) UEENEEP015A (motors) Participants may select two units. Note: external course assessment occurs one week after course completion Course cost includes one attempt at external assessment. Additional assessments will incur additional charge. The course is delivered online at PICAC 0* $50 $100 Flashback Arrestor & Oxy-Acetylene Testing The OH&S act places a responsibility on employers and employees to ensure that the workplace is safe for all. Oxy-Acetylene welding and cutting can cause severe injury and damage if not maintained in a safe working condition. This short course has been developed to familiarise participants with: - Testing of Flashback Arrestors using an approved testing device - Testing of Oxygen and Acetylene hoses, regulators and handpieces. At the completion of the course the participants will have covered the operation of a flashback arrestor tester and testing requirements of oxy-acetylene equipment. 3 Install medical gas pipeline systems Three day program designed to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to safely install Medical Gas Pipeline Systems, which are essential for the treatment of patients in hospitals, medical centres and other treatment facilities. Cheques payable to PICAC 8.00am 4.30pm for 3 days Feb Apr 2 4 Jun 4 6 PICAC 0 $650 $760 Install split air conditioning systems block delivery Program designed to develop the skill and knowledge necessary to install split air conditioning systems with a capacity to 18 kilowatts. Participants must hold mechanical services registration and/or licence or be able to demonstrate current industry experience in this field. 8.00am 4.30pm for five days Apr 7 11 Holmesglen, Chadstone campus 0* $775 $1030 Thermostatic mixing valves (Commission and maintain heated water temperature control devices) Two day program designed to train plumbers to test, commission and maintain hot water temperature control devices, including thermostatic mixing valves in water services. Participants must hold water supply registration and/or licence. Feb Apr 8 9 May PICAC 0* $440 $550 Type A gas appliance servicing This course covers the skills and knowledge to identify, diagnose and remedy faults on domestic and commercial Type A gas appliances. Participants must hold gas registration and/or licence pm 7.00pm Mondays and Tuesdays for eight weeks Feb 17 Apr 8 Note: No training Monday 10 Mar May 5 Jun 24 Note: No training Monday 9 Jun PICAC 0* $2138 $2850 Type B gas appliance servicing This course covers the skills and knowledge to install, test, adjust, commission and service Type B gas appliances. Participants will learn to identify, diagnose and rectify system faults in Type B appliances. It is desirable that participants hold gas registration and/or licence. Participants with appropriate industry experience in this field are advised to seek approval from the Victorian Building Authority (VBA) prior to enrolling. 4 Green Plumber Block program Five day program offering fast track delivery of the Course in Green Plumbers Environmental Solutions (five core and two electives). for five days Jun and PICAC 0* $743 $990 Commercial hot water One day program enabling plumbers to provide recommendations and advice to clients on efficient commercial heated water systems including gas, electric, solar and/or heat pump heated water systems. Jun 24 Energy efficient plumbing clients to improve energy usage in domestic and commercial properties. Mar 19 Environmental plumbing inspections Half day program enabling plumbers to perform an environmental plumbing inspection and complete an inspection report for domestic buildings. 1.00pm 5.00pm May 6 PICAC 0* $128 $170 Geothermal heat pump systems One day program enabling plumbers to provide recommendations and advice to clients on the use of geothermal heat pump systems (ground source heat pumps) for heating and cooling to improve environmental sustainability. Jun 25 GreenPlumber Irrigation systems clients on the use of irrigation systems. Natural waste water treatment clients on the use of onsite natural wastewater treatment systems. Apr 15 Suburban pump systems One day program enabling plumbers to plan and size simple pump systems used to pump rainwater and greywater in suburban areas. May 20 Water conservation Half day program enabling plumbers to provide recommendations and advice to clients to reduce the use of water in domestic and commercial properties. 5 Boomlift Two day program where participants will be assessed for their boomlift licence. There are no prerequisite requirements for individual units of competency. 7 Mechanical Services licence level training (Design, size and layout heating and cooling systems) This course provides participants with the skills and knowledge to design, size and document the layout of heating and cooling systems (mechanical services) for multi floor structures. This unit is required by the Victorian Building Authority for registered plumbers who wish to seek their licence in Mechanical Services. It is an accredited unit of competency within the Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services. Participation in this course requires self directed study and home work. Regional participants welcome!
